@modeltrainman12345 Yup, that and because of the wet, icy rails from the snow. They should have done that push-pull service with 7312 (if she was available) like they did during that one Easter.
@srr7312 yeah they should've, but also there is one more thing I would like to see and that is 475 and 90 double heading up grade towards groff's grove. They just don't do double headers anymore, I wonder why?
@srr7312 I also heard someone at 3:16, if you lisen railroad close, you can here him say "Maybe they'll bring the 31 in and hook on to 89 and do a double header".
@Strasburg1991, I heard she had a Nathan 5-chime on the GW and for a little while on the Strasburg, but for the majority of her years on the SRR, she wore the Reading 6-chime.
i bet 89 did atfer witnessing tis video! I try to make it to the SRR at least 3 or 4 times a summer. anytime 90 is running i ride the train it is pulling.
I try and make 3-4 visits too. 90 and 475 are my 2 favorites. There's nothing like seeng the both of them running on a beautiful summer day and riding in the open air car.
Well, that explains a lot about why the train was late all that day. I kinda wish I had gone to see what was going on, maybe would have had a chance to meet you. Ah well, great stuff
Thanks! Which old whistle do you mean? She had this banshee whistle on a long time ago but that was trashed. I think later on she had 7002's whistle, then she got a new one. That's what she is wearing in this vid.
Oh. I guess it just sounded like it a bit in the beginning. I've never heard this whistle on 89 in person before. I'm going next weekend. I'm looking foward to it!
#89 has worn several whistles over the years. The one "bob" was referring to is a PRR 3-chime, which was last used on the engine in Sept. 2007. The following month it was replaced with a CN 4-chime, which remained on the engine through the end of the 2009 season. The whistle in the video is a B&O 3-chime. It is the same one #89 wore in 2004 and '05.

thats not a B&O 3 chime, ALL B&O whistles weree side mount, this is a CN 3 chime, it has CNR on the bowl

is that bell being hand rung in the station there or was the rocker out of wack
Strasburgfanatic 3 months ago
@Strasburgfanatic I don't recall them having issues with the bell that day.
srr7312 3 months ago
the presidents private car is so heavy, maybe that's why 89 couldn't get over the hill.

@modeltrainman12345 It is possible, I would love to see that kind of thing happen as well.
srr7312 9 months ago
@srr7312 That would be cool, or they can bring 475 (382 the V. Creeper) and done a "Double Header"

Mine and srr7312's ideas combined!!!

@cvspad Haha that was actually my dad saying they should be doubleheaded.

when do you think 7312 will be running?
elevatorman17 11 months ago
@elevatorman17 From what I heard 7312 will not be out for a while. I keep hearing end of the year, next year, 2 years tops, so I'm not entirely sure.
srr7312 11 months ago
You know, I was thinking, if Strasburg does restore Reading 1187, they could make it a traveling museum piece, similar to Flagg Coal 75.
dragonpullman 1 year ago
Today I was at strasburg and
1) 7312 failed it's FRA inspection
2) 90 is going under it's FRA in Jan
- It will take 3-5 monthes
3) 475 just finished it's rebuild last week
4) 89 is in good condition, and runs smooth
- so it's looking good
ooGAMINGoo 1 year ago
Do u know when #475 is going for a rebuild ?
trainfann1 1 year ago
@trainfann1 I believe 475 has already had it's major rebuild.

how did 89 turn around with 9331 on the track?
cheesemunster12 1 year ago
@cheesemunster12 89 stopped at the water tower until 9331 cleared the tracks
srr7312 1 year ago
@srr7312 Oh Im sorry I meant at Leaman place sorry to confuse you.
cheesemunster12 1 year ago
@cheesemunster12 lol its ok. 9331 left just after 89 cleared the switch entering Leaman Place.

What happened to her 4 chime?
shayno11 2 years ago
wouldn't have 90 made this trip easier then 89? Did they even run 90 that day?
w29bum 2 years ago
Nope. She normally isn't ready to run until 2 train operation starts, which is the beginning of July.
srr7312 2 years ago
btw are they goning to change the whistles in 31 and 90 someday
Strasburg1991 2 years ago
Until the whistles wear out or something that will never happen.
srr7312 2 years ago
@srr7312 did 90 have a different whistle besides her reading 6 chime or was that it
Strasburg1991 2 years ago
Maybe in her early years at the Great Western, but at Strasburg I think she has had the same whistle all along.
srr7312 2 years ago
@Strasburg1991, I heard she had a Nathan 5-chime on the GW and for a little while on the Strasburg, but for the majority of her years on the SRR, she wore the Reading 6-chime.

@w29bum, I don't think 90 will b out until spring.
boberttrain831 2 years ago
o ok thanks for the info! that old GW is my favorite!
w29bum 2 years ago
@w29bum, yes mine too. i can't wait until summer when she runs a lot. I saw 475 today at strasburg. I guess 89 really took a beating.

Amen to that! Nothing like riding on the Hello Dolly platform as 90 is backing towards Paradise. AWESOME....right 7312?!!!!!
srr972 2 years ago
Can't argue with that! ;)
srr7312 2 years ago
This summer, I'll definantely try filming on the Hello Dolly platform. Don't know why I never thought of doing that.

srr7312 2 years ago
Did 9331 have to pull the 2 coaches off to make the train lighter and easier for 89 to handle?
RAILTECHCHASER 2 years ago
Yup. 89 has the lowest tractive effort out of all of SRR's steamers, and with the slippery rails from the snow, it was even tougher.
srr7312 2 years ago
I wonder if the saning gear still works? That would've helped too.
RAILTECHCHASER 2 years ago
is that andy in 89?

boberttrain831 2 years ago

srr7312 2 years ago

Thats what I thought. It sounded a lot like it. I remember the PRR 3-chime, but I think she only wore that once.
boberttrain831 2 years ago
Ah I see, thanks for the clear-up pennsyrailfan.
srr7312 2 years ago
Has her banchee been scrapped? I'm sure SRR wouldn't scrap something like that.
b3tothe12 2 years ago
I don't think Strasburg would ever scrap it. But I also don't think 89 will ever wear it again, they'll keep it if they ever need it I guess.
