  • Oh My God!!! amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • ummm, "and the home of the brave" lol

  • @bvega06

" For some reason my camera battery died before the end."

    lrn2read

  • love it

  • Great job :) watch vibrato though, that can mess with the balance.

  • woah, rockets red glare, what happened?

  • there is a difference between getting into the music and making random jerky movements. But great job guys!

  • Good!! The tenor especially was awesome...

I agree, though- both guys with the arm movements should watch that because it's distracting.

  • Don't use vibrato, your chords will sound better and you will all blend better.

  • Nice, but I think you should have credited the Gaither Vocal Band for the arrangement.

  • I also agree with dbutler85 - you should have credit the GVB for the arrangement (if that is what you used - it sounds like it), but it is still fantastic!!!!! :) Good job, boys.

  • and the home of the brave!!!! lol

  • sounds nice.. but the conducting arm is a little annoying

  • niice :)

  • wow this was great :)

  • In the style of the Gaither Vocal Band, yes? I loved it. Yeah, maybe there was a harmony or two that didn't quite happen, but hey, that is some difficult stuff to pull off.

I would love to be doing what you are doing. I really would.

  • What's up with all of this arguing and stuff? It wasn't bad or anything like that. Just enjoy your guys' anthem :).

  • ok bandman, I understand what you are saying. I happen to be a choral music major, and i was speaking from the larger ensamble point of view. I know that your placement is slightly different for the sopranos "ah" and the tenors "ah". But in general they all have to be the same. But I accept your apology for the rude like conduct.....But as vocalists we should be able to support each other and not tear each other down...

  • badman620,

If you have a soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voice the form of the notes are not going to be exactly the same. if the soprano is singing "ah" their ah is going to be slightly taller than the "ah" of the alto. I know you have to match vowels, but the form of the mouth between the 4 voices are going to be slightly different.

  • I was out of line in cursing ya out and calling names, and generally being mean in the post. I understand now that you probably meant to say that the placement is not the same. I must say though, that when you are singing in a large ensemble such as a chorale, u can hide many of those placement, pitch and/or vowel problems by placing the problems voices near an anchor voice or something. When in a small ensemble, you are exposed.

  • So any mistake you made is known. Precision in vowels, pitch, and placement is key when you're exposed like that. That was the point I was really trying to make earlier.

  • ya im in a quartet and the main thing that makes a quartet sound good is all tall vowels..all knowing what each word will do to one person and matching that person if its his moving part..you all want to be the same kep, loudness or quietness. because theres only four people to make the song sound right theres always an excuse but no reason to sound bad..if i had three days to practice a song i would brign the music or tell them i cant do it, because that really wasnt good enough..harsh but.ya

  • Guys, just had to say it sounded great! It's not perfect, but I thought it was awesome. The only thing that sucked was the video got cut off before the ending. As they say "Practice makes perfect."

  • horrible. all i heard were sharps and flats, i know there were some minor chords but this was just off key.

  • oh really? your retarded

  • Lol proper version? Sing it yourself with no accompanyment? Seriously, as a music major i know its boing if we dont challange ourselves. Comon people... get better taiste for music and watch again.

  • y'all are so critical.....I thought it was quite good. Singing on a baseball field is not easy...There were some balance problems...but gayandproud this is also a barbershop quartet so all the vowels don't exactly have to be the same for each person. If you are so good, put your version of the Star Spangled Banner up here.

  • ARE YOU FUCKIN KIDDIN ME

"this is also a barbeshop quartet so all the vowels don't exactly have to be the same person."

Dude you obviously have no clue what good barbershop technique is. Even good choral technique for that matter. For the best sound in any acappella group you need to match vowels, work balance on the chords, and make sure you're singing the right notes. Get a clue before you sound like a retard again. And if you don't believe what I'm sayin look up some champion quartets

  • ................................and?

  • you are not balanced. the bass cannot really be heard. the lead is WAAAAAAY too loud. the vowels should all have the same sound. DON'T POP THE NOTES!! and dont use vibrato if you cannot coordinate the slight pitch changes.

  • the lead needs to sing it himself... go USA

  • Oh, Shot!It would have been wonderful to listen up to the end of the song where the climax is!The lead singer has a very good voice.

  • somethin tells me they`ve been listening to the gaither vocal band.....wonder why it got cut short at the end....i think i know why...listen to GVB`s version and the big note at the end lol.

  • OMG I WANT THE FULL VIDEO ;~;

  • I prefer the proper version with trumpets and drums

  • damn... thats hot.

  • i will finish it.

    ahem...

    Andddddddd the homeeeeeeeeee of theeeee

    BRAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • wave was yelled

  • LMAO the camera cut off so perfectly.

  • y DID DEY CUT DA LAST LYN... PROBABLY COZ WERE NOT DAT BRAVE I GESS... LOL...

  • look up quadraphonic barbershop quartet they rule

  • lead dont try and conduct so much it looks very unprofessional but i know your trying to keep it together. also remember quartets sing with one voice not 4, just work on the blend and youll be good to go

  • What a load of crap. The point of a quartet is to have four different voices, not four singing in unison...

And conducting is the complete opposite from unproffesional!

Sure, it wasnt correct, but it kept it together.

  • What 10atayla was saying is that it is supposed to sound like a voice in harmony with itself. Like if you record 4 different parts of your own voice and played them together. Which is why he said to work on the blend. This is an awesome video though :-)

  • The baritones vibrato is really annoying

  • especially around .56

  • hahahahahahahahahaha

  • Nice job! - K

  • and the home of the...

  • brave..?

  • nice tenor!!!!!!

  • im confused. who sang falsetto at the end?

  • nice tenor whew my lungs hurt

  • nice job all.. Thats one hell of a first tenor..

  • They need to get their own arrangement and quit copying The Gaither Vocal Band

  • not very many ways you can arrange the SSB, mate.

  • Oh brother paw paw...

  • get all your asses down to American Idol and SIGN THE FUCK UP!

  • good point amigo

  • yes, yes it is.

  • hmm... it's ok... It looks very unproffesional when the lead conducts the entire time... dont do that

  • Yeah but is this a professional group? Probably not, right?

  • oo-rah!

    Keep going fellers!

  • Outstanding!!!! what happened to the end :) you guys are great.

  • This is the arrangement the Gaither Vocal Band used to sing the Star Spangled Banner, correct?

  • Yes it is :)

  • That's the third best I've seen so far, too bad they didn't finish. Check out Boys II Men

  • ..*inner chuckle*..I really did laugh when the vid cut off, but pros to the second tenor though, in my own oppinion, mic control was lacking. Keep up the good job guys. Have fun with it ;)

  • .........and the home of the brave...........

  • yeah guess the end would have been pretty dang awesome! too bad it died =(

  • AWESOME arrangement...i love the guy on the far left! fantastic

  • .......and the home of the brave......

  • more bass

  • you know , i really liked that! huh, i'll be damned.

  • and the home of the brave?

  • needs more of the bass

  • good!

  • GOOD......NEED A LITTLE WORK

  • God bless you and thank you. Outstanding!

  • you guys keep it up. you guys did a great job *gives thumbs up, a wink, and flashes a big smile*

  • and on that thought of all the complaining. just enjoy the music people. com on now

  • i loved it. im a barbershop singer, in which i am the lead. and personally i prefer conduct, it is difficult to give up, but it does help the singers, especially when youve got pieces thrown in front of you and expected to sing. to make a group...you need a single direction.

  • holy crap...

  • regardless of whether or not it's barbershop to have a director, it was a good performance. Very impressive, especially at short notice.

  • no it is NOT ok to direct. And it isn't a "conductor" it is a "director"

A lot of quartets have a director in them and that happens. it's tough to give up arm waving.

i have not heard this particular arrangement before, but I don't know that it is barbershop- perhaps just a cappella? It doesn't matter- it sounds great.

  • No, it's a "conductor". I also conduct choir. It is okay to conduct whilst singing in barbershop quartets, it's just not recommended because it doesn't look right and just in some ways ruins the visual part of the performance. There's no law saying that you're not allowed to conduct.

  • Thats not barbershop. Barbershop quartet harmomy does not contain directing. The lead is supposed to lead them yes (hense the name) but not through directing the tenor, bass, and bari are suppposed to listen to him not watch his hand. Im a conductor my self. for choir. But barbershop quartet harmony doesnt contain directing. You can ask alot of people. THats all im saying.

  • We all have our own opinion... Whatever they say, you guys did a wonderful job. I bet they can't even sing abc in tune, lol!

  • why do you direct? just keep your hand down lol, but you guys are awesome nevertheless

  • Why is everyone so critical? It wasn't awful and it wasn't the best. Leave it at that. Most of us, if not all, wern't there to see it anyway.

  • Okay, im sorry but ive been watching you guys and the lead is driving me nuts!!! STOP DIRECTING THIS ISNT A CHOIR THEY SHOULD KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW YOU INSTEAD OF YOU TELLING THEM WHAT TO DO! THATS THERE JOB TO FOLLOW U BY SINGING NOT WAVING UR HANDS.

  • THANKYOU!

  • Do yourself and close your eyes...

  • huh?

  • Lol I meant do yourself "a favour" and close your eyes, that came out wrong

  • Are you saying that conducting is wrong? OMG! I never realised! I'll have to rush out and tell all the conductors they've been doing it wrong all these years!

Now shut the hell up. It's close harmony singing, it's tricky and the timing is important. It is perfectly accaptable to have one person conducting.

  • No it's not, especially not this song where everyone is singing together as opposed to, say, a fugue. Just establish a tempo and go for it. At the fermata areas, just look to each other and give a simple nod of the head. It's not that hard at all.

  • That's not barbershop...

  • awesome

  • Sounds like the arrangment is borrowed from the Gaither Vocal Band. Good job though. Takes a robust tenor voice to pull that off.

  • you're right... that arrangment was done by the Gaither Vocal Band...... But yes, they did a pretty good job none-the-less.

  • I really, really liked this arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner. The guy on the left has an amazing voice, and you all sounded great together.

  • To the people talking about the "awkward" chords around 1:00...they are basically 7-6 suspensions..(or 6-5...I cant really tell, but something along that line). Its not really a jazz chord, because that would involve the 7th chord, which wasnt there. So yeah :)

  • firstly, they are sus4 chords, secondly, not all jazz chords contain the 7th

  • continue please!

  • stop conducting..

  • cause you suck at it lol

  • I actually really loved the chords in the song! They're different...that's what makes it unique. The dissonance-to-resolve was great. it added some good tension but once it came down, it was very fresh sounding. Great job.

  • Don't you guys read the introduction before you make coments.. This group had only practiced for a few days, and the camera battery went dead, there fore the AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE is missing.. Do you listen to these thinking your are their critiquiers? They did a wonderful job for such a short notice.. They don't need you to be tearing them apart.. Grow up..

    Dottie

  • i agree, people shouldnt be horrible. but at the end of the day they weren't ready. they did a public show for which they werent fully prepared. In the world of music that is unforgivable. If they knew they couldnt have prepared for it, they should have turned it down

  • So are you saying that they could have gotten a better group to perform on such short notice? You'd rather there not be a national anthem than something that's not perfect?

  • Of course they could have got a better group. All you have to do is look around! How much notice do these guys need anyway?

  • They would have gotten better if they could have. It would have taken even longer if they'd decided to 'look around' for other talents, when it's what? A university baseball game? Most of the ones I've been to don't even have national anthems.

  • well your attitude seems to point to the reason that european and particular british kids get a better musical education than american ones. in the uk this would not have been good enough. hey, lets just call it a regional difference.

  • That was nice

  • The high tenor is the one with the pipes, but the lead is an awesome vocalist as well!

  • As an American who lives abroad I never pass up a chance to hear this song. Great harmony, even that chaotic part. It made sense to me. I just wish they had put on the last part... "and the home of the brave."

  • Standing and applauding outstanding job

  • Oh man, what's with all the bad critisism here? Seriously. "You suck." Nice one, did you come up with that all by yourself?

Not bad at all. You're young and you'll only continue to improve on an already good sound. :D

  • i recognize the harmonics from the Gaithers...not bad, like everyone else said, lose the vibrado

  • You're not supposed to restrict your natural vibrato...that's called bad vocalism. Nice video...not enough blend, but at least its not COMPLETELY out of tune.

  • AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE?

  • well it was good. but i agree with daniscool99 they do sound like they are trying too hard. and for morales. you need to take a chill pill man. they are a barbershop quartet. they dont all stay on the same pitch.. its called harmony. hey fresh blend. I think you guys are good and keep up the work. i am a baritone in our highschool quartet. and so I absolutly love your stuff. keep it coming.and who ever says they arent on pitch. they are doing this accopella. which means no piano or accompanament

  • your harmonies are not tight enough. 'actually rocket red glare' was good if it were in tune. Quit trying to be pop stars. :P. and lose the vibrato, it sounds dumb.

  • 201,692 views! Geez!

I'm so proud of you guys! Go APU!!

  • Terribly awkward.

  • they suck

  • Awesome!!! I'll finish it for you "and the home of the brave" play ball!!!

  • What an awesome performance of our country's anthem!

  • Very good guys but bad chord construction at 0:51 and 1:08...

  • That was what you'd call a "jazz chord". If this bothers your classically trained ear, then you'd hate multi-award winning a cappella group, Take 6. These guys are superb..perfect performance! Bravo!

  • Who arranged this.

  • It was the redition of the Gaither Vocal Band, a southern gospel group with David Phelps.

  • damn, you guys are just amazing!

  • dude I swear to god these guys rock! :D

  • well that actually does help...

  • I don't like the way the lead feels like he has to direct the other 3..

  • This is so cool... awesome work, that's gotta be one of the coolest things to get bookings for. Much props.

  • you peeps bomb, keep it up ho

  • Props for even ATTEMPTING this arrangement.. but you're not the Gaithe Vocal Band. 4 stars anyway.

  • That's awesome, makes a great change to the R&B-style recitals I so often hear. I can actually listen to it without not listening to it!

  • I loved this even without the ending! Keep up the awesome singing.

  • very good, very Gaither Vocal Band arrange ; )

  • Yeah....actually it's the exact Gaither arrangement.

  • Fantastic, but... umm... yeah... where's the end?

  • Hahahahahaha, the end, hahahahaha
