Jui Jitsu University was the best $40 (i know i could of got it cheaper online) I've ever spent. It changed my whole philosophy and stepped my game to a whole other level. I just started training bjj in January. I think all beginners of the sport should read it though it can be a reference for even the highest levels
Best 40$ I spent on a book. Don't bother doing Jiu-Jitsu without reading it. If you teach Jiu-Jitsu and haven't read it... go and buy it. This book has saved me from countless submissions and bad positions
@Knockturnal88 i got mine and yes it was the best 40 dollars i spent on a book. i started doing jiu jitsu this year also, but it's been quiet for me for the past few months cause no one wants to keep going. but i do what i can with what i have and i was hoping to be at blue belt status by the end of the year but it hasn't been working out. but i still working it slowly.
I just completed my 10th day in BJJ @ The University of Jiu-Jitsu. I feel lucky to live so close. Saulo is very inspiering, as well as those who train there. This is the first friday I didn't go out and get trashed because im looking forward to a Saturday open mat. But Imma knock a few brews back for the super bowl!
This guy is the best at this art, I just started and Renato Taveres is teaching me now and Joel and the rest of the gang that i can't name at this time.
I have spent MONTHS just going to my back at every opportunity and letting people get side control, mount and knee on belly, JUST to test out Saulo's defensive stuff. It sucked for a while but now I am so comfortable going to my back and have no fear except against the top 4-5 guys at my club. Thing is those guys are the only guys that can now challenge my defense. The black belts still cut through my defense like butter but that just means I have some place to make gains in my BJJ.
man this guy looks like he's a down ass person. id like to meet him. recently started bjj,2 months in. always getting tapped but its great. his book , like the other guy said is something you wont regret. man, as a white belt , i just need to be humble , learn from the others, and just survive. and thats what iam doing. bjj is so addictive and it helps you in your daily life.. its true youll be having a tough day, than you go to bjj class , and you always come out feeling 100 percent better
I got Saulos book and I have learned so much from the white belt section and I'm a PURPLE BELT!!! Stuff like blocking the cross face and connecting your knees and elbows have taken my game to new levels. I'm not ashamed to say I learned from the white belt section. Of all the books I have Saulos is the ONLY one that is beat up, worn out with ragged pages. I keep it in the bath room and read it when I am ......ok I'll keep that to myself....LOL. GREAT BOOK. Please Saluo write another one.
@laser1ish Oh hell yeah. I hope Saulo does another book with more positions. I noticed north south was missing from the book, which is fine. There is only so much you can cram in one book. I have even taught some classes after using the cross face block for 6-8 months. Now guys in my club are using it against me and it is making life miserable. How awesome is that? I use one of Saulo's techniques, teach it to other guys at my club and they are using it right away. Great stuff.
@jagexisthedevil It's called Jiu Jitsu University. It's about 1 1/2" thick and is blue and tan colored with Saulo's name on it. Buy it, you'll not regret it.
@thebuzzcjc It's amazing that no one has really developed a book that lays out the necessities for a person to concentrate on in each belt level like Saulo has. Obviously the white belt can still work sweeps and subs, but the main focus should be on survival. As a purple with 8 years of BJJ I have to say that the white belt section has taken my defense to an entirely new level. People at the club say things like: "Man your defense is tight!" and I have helped others learn Saulo's stuff too.
@SCROGY Amen to the bathroom part bro, as I do the same!. haha. I find myself always going back to the white belt and blue belt sections all the time to reinforce the survival and escape techniques. I must say my defense has been the biggest asset I have in my game even though i'm still a white belt. I take pride in knowing the purples and above have to work for their submissions.

Amazing how a black belt like yourself could learn so much from Professor Ribeiro. A true master indeed, and I am honoured to be learning this art from one of his black belts.
Saulo is such a great teacher. He cares about his students and they way he breaks down the techniques is amazing!!! His reputation is amazing and his teaching is another level

Very nice quote when Saulo says : '' When everybody puts the Gi the're the same. You know what makes us different ? The Hearth.'' Very deep. Saulo is legend. Thanks Roy for sharing your amazing video. Cheers
all of those "yoga" type moves he's doing is from a great fitness program called Ginastica Natural. fitness based on natural body movements and such. just as jiu jitsu.

This is one of my favorite tracks on the RD Music CD.
Saulo is my fav, cuz hes not only a great champion and competitor, he finds very simple solutions for every position. So detailed aproach to each technique, i strongly recomend his dvd's, imo the best u can buy atm.
Stay tuned to Roy Deans website and blog. There's a great documentary coming out of their camp done (at least in large part) by Rick Ellis a RD Blue who's Belt test can be seen on youtube and the Rd website.
A lot of knowledge right there man. The beautiful thing about jiujitsu is just what Saulo said about age and the journey. You could be a forty year old brown belt with tons of mat time yet the journey is just beginning. You can be a twenty year old black belt yet learn from the same brown belt.
