  • So Simple yet so beautiful... What a great attitude!!!

  • I got your book Jiu-jitsu University. The book is great, with lots of information and good photos. It is also very inspiring. Thanks.

O livro Jiu-jitsu University eh excelente; contem muita informacao e boas fotos, alem de inspiracional!. Obrigado.

  • Saulo is the man.

  • roy dean has an awesome shoyoroll gi there. i am jealous.

  • Book is awsome!!

  • O CARA EH BOM!!!!

  • Saulo Ribeiro is a true Jiu Jitsu Samurai. I'm glad to call him my friend and proud champion and supporter. Brian Cimins - CEO, Grapplers Quest

  • More videos of saulo ribeiro please!

  • What a great man, so inspirational and centered...thanks much for the upload uchideshi!!

  • "Jiu jitsu makes you not think about your age because jiu-jitsu is a lifetime journey" damn thats awesome

  • This guy is incredible. A true legend. Thanks for sharing this, Roy.

  • Jui Jitsu University was the best $40 (i know i could of got it cheaper online) I've ever spent. It changed my whole philosophy and stepped my game to a whole other level. I just started training bjj in January. I think all beginners of the sport should read it though it can be a reference for even the highest levels

  • @Knockturnal88

Best 40$ I spent on a book. Don't bother doing Jiu-Jitsu without reading it. If you teach Jiu-Jitsu and haven't read it... go and buy it. This book has saved me from countless submissions and bad positions

  • @Knockturnal88 i got mine and yes it was the best 40 dollars i spent on a book. i started doing jiu jitsu this year also, but it's been quiet for me for the past few months cause no one wants to keep going. but i do what i can with what i have and i was hoping to be at blue belt status by the end of the year but it hasn't been working out. but i still working it slowly.

  • the way saulo says "Allll day" at 1:58

  • it's awesome that he said a new journey starts as a black belt

  • Saulo is a very inspiring martial artist!!!

  • this is a great video.

  • what gi is saulo wearing

  • @Brynny211 i think he has that kimono on his website.

  • you don't understand jiu jitsu if you dislike this.

  • nice, just got saulo's book Jiu Jitsu University.... loving it.

  • @kugtarbjj that's a great book i have the same one.

  • @kugtarbjj i read it all the time its the BEST!!

  • i wondering, why all BJJ masters are funny

  • I just completed my 10th day in BJJ @ The University of Jiu-Jitsu. I feel lucky to live so close. Saulo is very inspiering, as well as those who train there. This is the first friday I didn't go out and get trashed because im looking forward to a Saturday open mat. But Imma knock a few brews back for the super bowl!

  • People don't understand that BJJ is very philosophical, just like any art.

  • This guy is the best at this art, I just started and Renato Taveres is teaching me now and Joel and the rest of the gang that i can't name at this time.

  • The beauty of the sport is definitely not the ears. ;)

  • @myke7777

    Or is it?

  • @myke7777

Ah Saulo's ears are great!!!!!!!!! I can only dream of having ears like that.

  • That is an awesome video! Thanks for sharing.

  • I have spent MONTHS just going to my back at every opportunity and letting people get side control, mount and knee on belly, JUST to test out Saulo's defensive stuff. It sucked for a while but now I am so comfortable going to my back and have no fear except against the top 4-5 guys at my club. Thing is those guys are the only guys that can now challenge my defense. The black belts still cut through my defense like butter but that just means I have some place to make gains in my BJJ.

  • man this guy looks like he's a down ass person. id like to meet him. recently started bjj,2 months in. always getting tapped but its great. his book , like the other guy said is something you wont regret. man, as a white belt , i just need to be humble , learn from the others, and just survive. and thats what iam doing. bjj is so addictive and it helps you in your daily life.. its true youll be having a tough day, than you go to bjj class , and you always come out feeling 100 percent better

  • Of course he's not a red belt! Rickson just got his red and black. Needs about 20-30 more years in the game first. Still, he is the best.

  • And hes not a red belt yet?!

  • this man has taught me so much without even meeting him one day i will though one day

  • Freaking amazing...

  • I got Saulos book and I have learned so much from the white belt section and I'm a PURPLE BELT!!! Stuff like blocking the cross face and connecting your knees and elbows have taken my game to new levels. I'm not ashamed to say I learned from the white belt section. Of all the books I have Saulos is the ONLY one that is beat up, worn out with ragged pages. I keep it in the bath room and read it when I am ......ok I'll keep that to myself....LOL. GREAT BOOK. Please Saluo write another one.

  • @SCROGY yea that book is amazing, the little things that help your game!

  • @laser1ish Oh hell yeah. I hope Saulo does another book with more positions. I noticed north south was missing from the book, which is fine. There is only so much you can cram in one book. I have even taught some classes after using the cross face block for 6-8 months. Now guys in my club are using it against me and it is making life miserable. How awesome is that? I use one of Saulo's techniques, teach it to other guys at my club and they are using it right away. Great stuff.

  • @SCROGY i do the same thing its the perfect read at that moment lol glad to know im not the only one

  • @bowandarrow347 Sweet. Great book. Keep learning and training bro.....:)

  • @SCROGY Hello I would really like to know the title of the book you are reading.

  • @jagexisthedevil It's called Jiu Jitsu University. It's about 1 1/2" thick and is blue and tan colored with Saulo's name on it. Buy it, you'll not regret it.

  • @SCROGY Thank you very much.

  • @jagexisthedevil No problem....:)

  • @SCROGY GREAT BOOK!!! Out of the 7-8 I own, some by the Gracies, It is my FAVORITE..

  • @thebuzzcjc It's amazing that no one has really developed a book that lays out the necessities for a person to concentrate on in each belt level like Saulo has. Obviously the white belt can still work sweeps and subs, but the main focus should be on survival. As a purple with 8 years of BJJ I have to say that the white belt section has taken my defense to an entirely new level. People at the club say things like: "Man your defense is tight!" and I have helped others learn Saulo's stuff too.

  • @SCROGY Amen to the bathroom part bro, as I do the same!. haha. I find myself always going back to the white belt and blue belt sections all the time to reinforce the survival and escape techniques. I must say my defense has been the biggest asset I have in my game even though i'm still a white belt. I take pride in knowing the purples and above have to work for their submissions.

  • @pawnrook LOL it's kinda embarassing to admit but taking a crunch and learning BJJ together is part of my daily routine.....:P

  • Amazing how a black belt like yourself could learn so much from Professor Ribeiro. A true master indeed, and I am honoured to be learning this art from one of his black belts.

  • It looks like Saulo is a really great teacher who is able to explain things thoroughly and is pretty funny too!

  • more of this!!!!

  • Saulo is a real class act and a good teacher.

  • my only complaint is the length, i want more haha.... too bad youtube did away with the star rating system, because this deserves at least a 5

  • Hands down, one of the best grapplers in the world. Very, very inspirational professor also.

  • I wish I could train at his university.

  • I seriously wish that video could have gone on for another hour at least

  • Lessons from a legend!

  • id give anything to spend a day with these guys.

  • Saulo is such a great teacher. He cares about his students and they way he breaks down the techniques is amazing!!! His reputation is amazing and his teaching is another level

  • Dean ! so cool you let us see that . you are gracious .I really like to listen to saulo .

his glue the forearm to the knee guard pass has helped me alot .

  • superb video. One of the best i have watched on here regarding BJJ.

I have the book 'Jiu-jitsu university' by Saulo Ribeiro and it is very well presented book to aid my training. what a fantastic man.

    thanks for posting.

  • so glad i have a saulo ribeiro gym out of detroit mi

  • Sweet

  • 3:16 I NEVER NOTICED THAT DETAIL. Thank you, Saulo!

  • Saulo is a true gentleman and a great ambassador for the sport!

  • SAULO RULES, DIEGO IS MY NIGHTMARE<3

  • Very cool, Professor seems like a very positive person

  • wow i am truly jealous you get to train with Saulo Ribeiro.. the dude is amazing at bjj and a great guy in real life.

  • Roy- thanks for sharing, Your humility shows, when you are willing to put a video up of you being corrected, that we might learn from your mistakes. Humility, willingness to share, always trying to Improve = the heart of a Champion.

  • One day I hope to train with Saulo or at least meet him he is an inspiration to all jiu-jitsu practicioners

  • What a boss

    Chefe pracaramba

  • Very nice quote when Saulo says : '' When everybody puts the Gi the're the same. You know what makes us different ? The Hearth.'' Very deep. Saulo is legend. Thanks Roy for sharing your amazing video. Cheers

  • all of those "yoga" type moves he's doing is from a great fitness program called Ginastica Natural. fitness based on natural body movements and such. just as jiu jitsu.

  • Very good video ... The path for those who trains in jiu-jitsu

  • I had a class with him yesterday: he is my inspiration. What a great instructor!! He is great and so nice!!

  • no way that was sooo sick i wish i had a chance to roll with either one of them

  • Ficou muito bom! Parabéns pelo vídeo!

  • Is that Roy Dean? Saulo and Roy are great instructors!

  • awesome video!

  • A very nice video

  • inspirational....

  • I can watch it over and over again. Saulo is such a tremendous inspiration as a beginner on this journey we call Jiujitsu. Roy, thanks for sharing, you're doing Oregon proud with your work.

  • WAR SAULO

  • Nice film Rick. I met you at the Claudio's US Open. The fim quality is very good. I would have loved to have been there.

  • one word : legend

  • Saulo is awesome

  • You know what make us diferent? The Heart...

  • It is always the Heart, I will follow my Heart and i love Jiujitsu

  • what gi is Saulo wearing?

  • i believe its the one he designed with joe padilla its a gold weave i just bought one its a great gi if its the same one which it looks like it is then its the saulo ribeiro gold weave padilla

  • Where do I get the video?

  • wow Saulo has a great insight on jiu jitsu. I hope to become close to that in the many years to come.

  • more please....Saulo is the greatest!

  • I got saulo's book JJ University a couple of months ago and have been studying his techniques ever since. This guy is one of the best...ever!!

  • It was such a pleasure to see him grapple at this years ADCCs - I was loving it when he came out in a Gi to fight Monson in the Absolute. Idol.

  • Always great videos...

  • fantastic stuff, wish it was a 2 hour movie!

  • It's always great to see someone who is so humble and has a true passion for our sport. I hate seeing cockiness in the sport. Be confident, not cocky. Thank you for posting this!

  • its nice seeing someone who has achieved so much be such a nice friendly person

  • great video, someone you might want to look into is john danaher. i've never done a private with him myself but i've heard from lots of people that he is the best teacher out there.

  • The smartest and most intelligent people in the world, those that are widely condiered experts and the "tip of spear" in there respective fields, are the very few smart enough to quickly seek (and consequently give) further knowledge elsewhere to add to their skill sets.

    This video says it all.

Outstanding footage and content as always. Much respect to Saulo Ribeiro and Roy Dean.

This is one of my favorite tracks on the RD Music CD.

  • This guy is the best grappler AND best teacher in the world..a legend indeed..

  • @Louiesachnk maybe best teacher but marcelo garcia is the humble king....

  • Saulo is truly one of the all time greats.

  • Love it! Great seminar too!

  • Saulo is my fav, cuz hes not only a great champion and competitor, he finds very simple solutions for every position. So detailed aproach to each technique, i strongly recomend his dvd's, imo the best u can buy atm.

Greetings for all bjj practicioners ;)

  • damn thats quite cauliflower ear.

  • WORLD CLASS!!!!!

  • Is this an upcoming documentary style movie? If so, where can I learn more about it?

  • Stay tuned to Roy Deans website and blog. There's a great documentary coming out of their camp done (at least in large part) by Rick Ellis a RD Blue who's Belt test can be seen on youtube and the Rd website.

  • 2 black belts discussing bjj techniques.... amazing ..... but since it's those two .... it's just epic

  • A lot of knowledge right there man. The beautiful thing about jiujitsu is just what Saulo said about age and the journey. You could be a forty year old brown belt with tons of mat time yet the journey is just beginning. You can be a twenty year old black belt yet learn from the same brown belt. Then you get meetings like this with these guys and it just shows how this game is so expansive.

  • An amazing athlete and true champion.

  • Awesome video clip!

  • From innovations to work ethics Saulo is a great role model. His Jiu Jitsu University is a cutting edge Jiu Jitsu book worth adding to ones inventory.

  • Beautiful and humbling. I have such a long way to go... (am a blue belt in bjj).

  • Nice shoyoroll gi. I have the same one.

  • Very impressed with Roy's humility, this shows that the belt doesn't mean a thing when it comes to learning, you never stop. Saulo's my favorite fighter/teacher, he always looks for the simplest way, and stresses proper mechanics. I would love to train with both in the near future.

  • Yes Roy Dean is the gentleman in the black shoyoroll gi.

  • that guy in black is that roy dean?

  • Love it!

  • oh, yeah i like the new shot on the way the video was set up.

  • that was outstanding it make me want to learn but i just don't have the time to make it to the class. i stopped by and enjoy the atmosphere there. great video.

  • Great advise from one of the great masters....in BJJ...

  • damm this vid was sick....i like how he said that u change the positions too fast.. instead of being conserved... good info

  • Beautiful Mr. Ellis! And thank you for posting this Mr. Dean.

  • that's absolutely amazing. i was out to visit san diego last weekend and I didn't make it over to his school. Thanks Roy for pointing out what a huge mistake that was.

    excellent video.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • Awesome vid!! Saulo's methods are absolutely brilliant. I want to go to the University of Jiu Jitsu someday and train him and Xande.

  • i have been lucky enough to hav trained with saulo when he was in detroit . . . a JIUJITSU icon . . . great video !!!

  • Wonderful vibe.

  • loveing it
