Does the height of a player play a role on were thier release point is? players like kevin durant seems to have a low release point during free trows.
All of the tips are great but I think when it comes to the best "TIP" i'll have to say it's make your free throw cauz free throws are so important in basketball game and they can change games as i just realized ! 10x team shot science !
@TheKingJohnnyG You make a very valid point here, no question. Good one that we all need to remember. Thanks for your comment and good luck in your basketball career. Hopefully you will "Spread the Word!"
Hey coach, I practice everyday and most of the time I can shoot jumpers and dribble very well, but if I miss just one day of going to the gym and playing basketball, I cant shoot or dribble in the slightest when I come back the next day. Can you tell me why I am so inconsistent with my game?
@jpinedude63 Well, it is probably not as big a problem as you make it out to be. If your are as effective as you say on some days then probably it comes right back to even after a short layoff. Probably worrying about it too much!
Is there any workout to strengthen wrist, arm or shoulders to get a farther jump shot? Every time I'm in mid air shooting the ball I catch myself throwing the ball instead of actually shooting it. Any tips???
@jeromedavis21 Great to hear about the Sky Hook. The App will have a small cost to make the drills catalogue available for you to set up your own workouts and have them on your IPOD or IPAD. We are working hard on getting this ready.
@edmusical520 Well, this is usually due to how you use your feet in preparation for the shot. If you are a player who likes to "hop" into your shot it is difficult to deal with. If you step into your stroke it becomes pretty easy to fix. We will do a video on this footwork pretty soon when we do our video on the Jump Shot.
@JermeyLin17 Check out our video "Don't Square Up You're Feet." Also, it will probably take a good amount of practice of working very hard on good mechanics. So use our "Form Shooting Drill" to get it all down.
@ ShotScience i have a question... is palming the ball a huge key in dunking? if so are they any drills to work on this? because i have this leather ball that I bought recently (2-3 months old) and i cant palm the ball but if i play with my composite ball i could palm the ball with ease so im like WTF!!!!!!??? So my next question is does the material that the basketball have effect your palming ability?
Hi coach! My team keeps losing games, we let them get too many easy fastbreak points. So I think we should do a foul, before they can take it to the basket, so please help me, how to do a good foul to not let a easy fastbreak basket... Thank you, and btw i'm Europe
@rKasutajanimi Well the answer here is to get your team to get back on the fast break and pick up the offense before they can score. This is referred to as "Transition Defense!" It is really important to be able to do this to be successful.
I find it easy to get pass a defender but when i'm already below the rim I hesitate and fake them out , because i think they could catch up and block me (specially if they're tall) what should i do to prevent this?Should i just remove the hesitation and just shoot? what if they block me?
HELP I have a question! So i have pretty decent ball handling..i cross over people pretty well in pick up games but when it comes to actual 5 on 5 games i cant seem to get past anyone and i always get called for a travel because i stutter step a bit before beginning my dribble. What can i do to fix this and how??
@lazerdude23 Well it really depends on what type of press you are facing. If it is a Zone trap press the best way to beat it is too pass the ball before they can trap. A man press is usually beaten by giving the ball to your best ball handler, clearing out all other players and let them bring the ball up the court. Hope this helps.
@ShotScience one other thing i play starting point guard and i dont get the scoring that the team needs im mostly a defensive player is there a drill that can help me score alittle more
I love your videos, I try to make athletes stronger and jump higher to get to the next level, check out my videos, hit the like button, leave a comment and subscribe! Thanks!
Coach, my left hand feels very uncomfortable while playing basketball (especially layups). I dont seem to have that "feeling" for the ball in my left hand. Do you have any advice on how to improve on this? I can hit the spot i want using my right hand but its often way off with my left.
@chenny7717 watch out Defense 101 video. You typically want to try to pop the ball up when the swing it into the "Box" on their body. The other time is anticipating the pass and jumping the passing lane. There are a few other times, but we'd have to explain them in more detail.
@ShotScience how about when the offensive player is dribbling. sometimes when i try to steal the ball when the offensive player is dribbling they get past me. what is the best way to steal the ball when the offensive player is dribbling.
@Sonicfast139 lots of things could have happened. You'd have to explain in more detail. If you were being triple-teamed in the post, that probably means there were two teammates open somewhere. We'd suggest pitching it out to them for a good look or to get the defense to shift again.
@mrxracunx yep, that's a great one! Too many guys shy away from contact and throw up low percentage fade aways! Take it up STRONG, get the bucket, the foul, and the extra point!
shot science, i would appreciate it if you could help me. So my problem is that defensive pressure always seems to mess up my shot. During practice my jumpshots make it at least 80% of the time. But when i play a normal basketball game with defenders, they always seem to block me or exert pressure on me, as a result, my shot usually 2-3 inches off the "nest" and simply bounces off the rim. How can i get past the defenders and keep the pressure off? thanks. have a nice day.
@32432432894612736213 sounds like you're having problems on two fronts. Number one is that you need to learn to create space to get off open shots. We have TONS of videos on this including, "Creating Space to Score," the "Dribble Attack" series, "Finishes at the Rim," among many others.
The second problem sounds like you need to practice your shot AT GAME SPEED! Check out our video on that! Hope this helps!

Hey Team @ShotScience, can we have more videos about deffence? I have already checked the 3 three deffencif videos that you guys have made and they are awsome, but we need some advanced deffencif skills!
and I was wondering if Chase can make us another program (like the vertical Jump Program) but this it will be about how to improve our deffence, how to be faster than anyone!
@TheMeryama03 we're definitely going to have more on defense. There is so much that we want to cover, but it just takes a little time to make it happen!
Great tip! Ever since I learned this a couple years ago I feel like my defense is about 15 times better...I'm surprised more people on the street don't seem to know about this...I always see people watching the eyes or ball and they get blown by easily.
Counter to this is the ball handler staying low and body shifts with his moves. common problem with players is that the ball and limbs move but the torso does not twist and turn with the body fully on moves and fakes. limit the defenders vision by being low and crowding them(crowd dribble facing up and crab dribble backing down) and in practice go through rhythm dribbling to get all of the body in line with move for maximum explosion and also deception when faking. i.e. young steve francis.
@ShotScience i stated to crowd the defender to limit his perceptual vision of the ball handler cue areas(i.e. mid section). crowd dribble is used as a feeler. a player could try to just blow by if he has the ability to do so versus that player but alot of times at least 1 fake or counter move must be used to create space. general principles work against players of similiar build or ability but they are not universal. certain defenders require certain moves and speeds.
@chitownmo if you're getting knocked off course by a defender then you need to use tools like the "Hammer" and drive more aggressively at them. The burden of contact is on them because if they are plying too much contact, even if you are drawing it, the foul will be on them. Great defenders typically are great because they can contain the offensive player by using great footwork (staying in front coupled with quickness), great anticipation, and not being goaded into biting on fakes.
@ShotScience yes but it depends on the defenders frame vs. the offensive player. very rarely that player will not beat him off he dribble and get him to open up no matter how hard he drives. go back to player vs. player(matchups). the hammer is an option but it depends on how fast it is done for not be seen and if it is whether the refs call it. some kids get too aggressive due to frustration and get hit for the offensive foul.
@chitownmo also, we are not suggesting that the offensive player "crowd" the defender. We are all about creating space when you have the ball. We are talking about if the defender is crowding you, you go on them immediately. If they are up on you, then you can go by them. The situation you are alluding to, we would call more of a medium pressure situation and would implement a fake and/or a counter move to create space.
@ShotScience never said you did. i did depending on the matchup. my original statement was as a counter to the main video's mid section read information. what you said is effective man to man defensive principle.
@ShotScience Not necessarily true. Relative to size, length and athleticism from ball handler to defender. a lesser athlete will not get a by a better one by crowding him unless that athlete is a subpar defender and is timid. you see this consistently on college and pro ball level. ex. old school joe dumars is not blowing by MJ or mark price getting by pippen by just crowding them. wont work most of the time. need to be deceptive in order to create space with fakes and counters.
@ShotScience build and strength play a huge parts too in terms of being able to take contact and maintain control going forward(offense) or maintaining the angle(defense). why strong defenders are able to knock penetrators off their driving angles and make they circle or shift instead of driving straight towards the basket.
@loknessdh12 you just have to make yourself do this and then eventually you'll have it become second nature because you've done it so much. As for footwork, check out our "Defense 101" series. It's an intro to the stuff we plan on doing sometime soon!
Does the height of a player play a role on were thier release point is? players like kevin durant seems to have a low release point during free trows.

@ShotScience yes but it depends on the defenders frame vs. the offensive player. very rarely that player will not beat him off he dribble and get him to open up no matter how hard he drives. go back to player vs. player(matchups). the hammer is an option but it depends on how fast it is done for not be seen and if it is whether the refs call it. some kids get too aggressive due to frustration and get hit for the offensive foul.
chitownmo 4 weeks ago
@chitownmo also, we are not suggesting that the offensive player "crowd" the defender. We are all about creating space when you have the ball. We are talking about if the defender is crowding you, you go on them immediately. If they are up on you, then you can go by them. The situation you are alluding to, we would call more of a medium pressure situation and would implement a fake and/or a counter move to create space.
ShotScience 4 weeks ago
@ShotScience never said you did. i did depending on the matchup. my original statement was as a counter to the main video's mid section read information. what you said is effective man to man defensive principle.
chitownmo 4 weeks ago
@ShotScience Not necessarily true. Relative to size, length and athleticism from ball handler to defender. a lesser athlete will not get a by a better one by crowding him unless that athlete is a subpar defender and is timid. you see this consistently on college and pro ball level. ex. old school joe dumars is not blowing by MJ or mark price getting by pippen by just crowding them. wont work most of the time. need to be deceptive in order to create space with fakes and counters.
chitownmo 4 weeks ago
@ShotScience build and strength play a huge parts too in terms of being able to take contact and maintain control going forward(offense) or maintaining the angle(defense). why strong defenders are able to knock penetrators off their driving angles and make they circle or shift instead of driving straight towards the basket.

ShotScience 4 weeks ago
I know this before but i can quite doing this, bcoz its hard to practice defense on my own...
and it is easy for me to forget this in real game =[
btw ,is there any video will help improve defensive footwork?
loknessdh12 4 weeks ago
@loknessdh12 you just have to make yourself do this and then eventually you'll have it become second nature because you've done it so much. As for footwork, check out our "Defense 101" series. It's an intro to the stuff we plan on doing sometime soon!
