  • i watched the soladad obrien documentary on this. Jim Jones was a sociopath. There were some people there that wanted to leave. They were in the jungle in a foreign country with no ID. Where do you go? They joined a crazy cult. They didn't know what they were getting into when they went. Its interesting how people will do what ever they are told, unquestionably.

  • This sick demented cracker. Don't think there aren't any walking around today trying to think up ways to carry this shit out again.

  • i'm pretty sure that animal was a xupacabra

“never let a good crisis go to waste”

  • How come the pentagon did't do anything with this? For real they could have stopped this stupid event before it even started.

  • ye and marketing continues on tv today and no one seems to care.

  • this was one a phew days ago

  • This same show is playing on TV tonight--I'm watching it as I'm typing this, in fact. I suppose they play it annually, as the person who mentioned an airing of the show made her comment about it...two years ago. If that's the case, then I will be sure to tape it when it is aired next year.

  • And this girl still has a cross on??? Religion kills. Humanist atheism is the way.

  • @Nejiboud Jim Jones was a humanist atheist!

  • how did she not find food in the south american jungle? Guyana is a freaking oasis of fruit.

  • I feel for the children of the idiot adults who brought them to this place.

Good for this woman who escaped.

  • If Jonestown is shut down then why is Google Earth blocking the view?

  • great to hear from a "DEFECTOR" from Jonestown

  • Respect them for what they originally tried to do (create a place were all were equal, no matter race, a place were everyone was cared for and loved) and mourn them, and remember so it does not happen again!!! But these were real people, not just some for you to make fun of and joke about 30 years later. It was not suicide, people were murdered! REMEMBER!!!

  • @jsoerand -

I appreciate the comments that you and marmackk are making. There's almost a willful lack of understanding and there's an arrogance. Maybe people feel the need to keep saying, "Not me! Never! " because they want to remind themselves to never let it happen. Because they know deep down that every human being could find themselves in a cult under the right circumstances and life experiences.

Then again, some people are just obnoxious, smug assholes with a superiority complex.

  • I really respect what you said! That is the VERY FIRST variable I keep pointing out to people.

These people were looking for multi-culturalism, one nation in peace, what the dubbed as the "Promise-Land."

I can't fault them for it.

Jim Jones is the scorpion that promised not to sting the frog if he'd taken him across the water.

  • When in the jungle the only "news" they got were told from Jim Jones, he was telling them that USA and Britain were sending all african americans and indians out of the countries. He told them that the cia were after them, he sent people out in the jungle around the camp to shoot in at the camp...so people believed they were being attacked, people believed the only news they got. 909 people died have some respect for them, don't just call them nutjobs and say they had it coming!

  • Jsoerand... he manipulated them by controlling their info, they werern't allowed to watch tv,read the press or listen to the radio , they believed he was protecting them when he was actually preventing them from seeing what a monster he was.He manipulated them using fear, told them they were mercenaries in the jungle ready to kill them. They worked long days so that they hardly had any time to think.People need to read Steve Hassan B.I.T.E model of how mind control works before they judge.

  • When things got a little strange, they shook it off because they were still believing in the dream they shared with 1000's of other people.

It was not untill they were deep in the jungle, cut off from family, the media etc that it went completly wrong. They didn't go there thinking they couldn't leave when they wanted to. They didn't go there to get away from a police state. They went to build a dream. They went to build a place were they could live the way they wanted to.

  • RGpranin, you are ignorant!!! Have some respect please.

They joined together because they truly believed they were making a difference, that they were making the world a better place. They went to guyana because they saw that there they could be left alone to pursue the dream they had of unity across races and they could be alone while doing so.

  • @Jsoerand...I understand your frustration at trying to convince people that the followers of People's Temple were not idiots.Being formerley associated with a destructive cult I can confirm that it is so easy to get in and so unbelievably difficult to leave. These people were deceived and manipulated. You have doubts but rationalize them because of the paralyzing fear of what would happen if you leave and like you said the believe in a dream of living in an ideal world.

  • one thing CNN forgot to mention was that the Survivors of Jonestown tried to sue the US government back in 1986 over some BS claim that was later thrown out and had no merit to be appealed. can't give detail but it might be that they think the CIA was involved yeah lets see backin the late 70 we where in the height of the cold war and our CIA has time to worry about a bunch of burn outs.

  • Funny thing is that the members of Jonestown ran back to the same government that they said was a evil police state to help get them out of Jonestown. This is why I have no sympathy for them they rant about how bad our system is then then once the Kool aid wore off down in Jonestown what did they do Beg the same government they said they wanted nothing to do with to help get them away from there Great spiritual leader. BS these people would have been future ACORN workers bent on trashing the US.

  • I don't feel any sympathy for the idiots that followed Jones to the grave. they viewed the US as a Militant police state and that was there reason for leaving. They gave jones all there money he told them where to live what job they where gonna do and he forced them to listen to his political rant 24/7 surrounded by armed guard (Red Brigade) oh and Jones could sleep with any man's wife. Yeah that sounds a lot better than the police state of the USA that they left. I didn't shed 1 tear for them

  • libatako, the rapper Jim Jones did not intentionally take the cult leader's Jim Jone's name for publicity. The rapper's government name is Joseph Guillermo Jones II, and was nicknamed Jimmy as a kid. He shortened the nickname but in no way to be affiliated with the cult leader.

  • Wether he chose the name or not, rappers still have a choice about what they go by. Even if that was my real name, I think I'd change it just to get rid of the stigma attched to it.

  • Not to discredit the hip hop generation ( which I am a part of) in now way, but I bet if you asked most kids what comes to mind when they hear the name Jim Jones or Jonestown, they would not know what you were referring to. I have been a Jim Jones fan for over ten years, and not one of his lyrics make referrence to the cult leader like many rappers who do affiliate themselves with famous mobsters or gangsters. No need to change the name. Purely coincidence.

  • Fair enough. I was 12 when it happened so I remember it vividly. I am 43 now but I get your point.

  • and you know whats funny and sick?....some dumb ass rapper took the name of jim jones just for the publicity.....

  • I thought the rapper just happened to have the same name. Now that it seems he CHOSE the name, shows what an uneducated, sick individual he really is. Thanks for the info.

  • cia mind control gone bad.Had to stop moscone and ryan...and did

  • gatorfan- can i ask your source for that information? wanna know more!

  • I still prefer Witness to Jonestown.

  • They gotta make a movie like a good produced and directed movie of this story ..

  • I don't think they'll ever make a movie on this event other than what's already out there. The reason is simple, there's no happy endings here, just death and questions. Even Schindlers list made a point of showing a happy ending with survivers of the camps going to Shindlers grave. The story is just too negative.

  • this what u get get when u mix religion with a physco path

  • THERE IS REAL EVIL IN THE WORLD.....he is proof----and he is burning for all eternity for what he did!

  • i liked the story, true or not

  • it is true you tool, CNN wouldn't of interveiwed the woman if she couldn't of certified that she was a member of the people's temple

  • man imagine how much she must've struggled all her life. My thoughts are with this woman.

  • @mwgcubs fag

  • I think that Soledad o'brien is pretty.

  • Damn I hate Jim Jones.

  • why waste your time hating the dead? there are plenty of living madmen around the world today bringing about any number of fresh holocausts upon the world

  • True. Such as some racist idiots on youtube or where else. But my family was living in Guyana by that time. If that suicidal idiot wanted to kill himself, why kill children? But you are right, there are many madmen in this world.

  • yeah i was watching this earlier cuz all i could find was disney stuff, and i wasn't in the mood and it was so sad, i practically started crying, why would you kill children like that? that's evil, and, i kno i probly dont have much say in this cuz i'm only 11, but, so what, that doesn't take away the fact this crazy man killed all these people and a ton of kids who had no chance in this world! and forcing ppl to leave BEHIND their kids? seriously what was going through his head when he did this

  • I re-watched this last night, and I got sick to my stomach. I imagined myself as a survivor, and I felt terrible, almost cried, but the way I felt was probably only 1/1,000,000 of what the survivors feel. What a psycho maniac. What kind of person would do this to 900+ people? My thoughts and prayers go out to these poor survivors who are suffering from emotional trauma.

  • @guyanesegal409 Jim Jones was only the front man. I think this was a CIA operation. Why aren't you all angry at the CIA? OR - Are you too afraid to be angry at the CIA? - Are you too fearful to even recognize that they could do such a thing?

  • @greatbydesign33 I do not fear to hate , nor do I fear to love . If I want to hate then I will hate , the same goes for love . Most of us do not know of the CIA being involved , but the man had issues if he even went through with it . And if a person walking down the street could kill me , why should it surprise me if the CIA could do the same ? If a gang can wipe out an entire neighbourhood , imagine what the CIA could do . That's an interesting fact you've brought up , though .

  • @greatbydesign33 a Cia operation? fucking idiot

  • @shithead2415 Your Mother is a Fucking idiot you Pussy-Cunt faced Moron. Jim Jones was working with the CIA Punk.

  • @greatbydesign33 Hahahahaha. Aaaahahahahaha. Are you sure it wasn't the Jewish lizard alien chemtrail moonlanding hoax black helicopter new world order that created jim jones? Hahahahaha. hahahahahaha. I wonder who or what all of you delusional birth defects blamed before America existed. Mud? It was the mud that cracked all your stone wheels. The damn mud controls the planet!!

  • @slump75 You do not have to believe me. Just do your own research. Ooooops. I forgot. You are too DUMB to do that.

  • @guyanesegal409, Damn, I hate religion.

  • @BogusJesus You , my friend , are an epic win .

  • @guyanesegal409 Wtf! how can you hate him? He was a man with a vision, he could have helped us all!!

  • how did you get this footage it was suppose to be out yesterday

  • planting seeds of domestic terrorists for the sheeple.

    tomorrow at 9 on cnn.

get your propaganda free of charge.

  • yea i know i read the producers review of it now there were 32 survivors

armed guards since the beginning of jonestown..guards funded by US government

all 5 survivors interviewed are currently recovering from drug addictions

people getting shot in the back trying to run in the jungles

and massive amounts of psychoactive drugs

  • so sad.....

  • @justinbushaw Its that I'm not against conspiracy theories. Its just that so many contradict each other. Someone has to be full of shit.

  • i really wish i seen this show....its revealing details that were classified or at least kept from the public

  • My apologies, the show will air on this Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 9pm et. time - so technically you did not miss it! I made the correction in my "more information" box.

  • @justinbushaw The connection between the CIA and Jim Jones from the internet:"the most mysterious connection that Jim Jones had was his childhood friend, Dan Mitrione. Mitrione later became Chief of the Richmond PD... Mitrione was later was recruited into the CIA, under State Department cover, in May of 1960, and was trained in counter-insurgency and torture techniques. Coincidentally, Mitrione had traveled to Brazil as an OPS adviser at the U.S. Consulate not long before Jones had arrived.
