  • Isnt this in that old game James Bond 007?

  • Awsome!!! he got a lazer then shot some smoke through it!! OMFG SKILLZ!! rofl

  • Oh well it looks cool :D

  • *cough* bullshit *cough*

I like the dry ice bit though. Maybe George Lucas can you it on his next Star Bores film...

  • dumbass read the comments

  • im sorry if it is real i respect you but it does look like a low power green laser through steam

  • No offense taken :) As I have tried to convey in the preceding comments, it is just as you say.. a laser and steam. Purely for effect and not destructive in any real sense.

  • You take me too seriously... sorry to have misled you. But it does blast and there are photons :)

It is indeed, "just an effect", but in the larger sense, it is a fiction that leverages the cultural elements that encourage mashing together elements from widely divergent streams of thought and action.

In short, I was just having some fun on a few different levels. :)

  • To just add to my previous comment, what I mean is (given that you said it uses a laser high voltage electrons and steam), why is it a 'photon blaster' rather than simply an effect that shoots steam along a laser beam to make it illuminate, with a little electricity arc to add to the illusion? Why is that any more dangerous than say, just firing hot steam at someone?

  • I'm not being intentionally cynical here, but other than the arcing electrical current (which is easily done) all the blast looks like to me is a blast of steam with a well positioned high power green laser shone down the middle to illuminate it. A green laser would cause the steam to light up like that, no problem at all, plus the narrow beam stays there as the steam fades away. Sorry dude, but I'm calling fake.

  • let it shot something like a can or something

  • Well, before it was a photon blaster, it was "Mr. Steam Gun" and it would shoot rubber plugs about 20 feet. 8)

As for being lethal, let's just say that scaling it up could make for a dangerous situation.

  • the real question is...can it be lethal? :D

  • It shoots a blast of steam about 7-8 feet. Some work on the barrel might get more distance. Another approach would be to shoot toroids... smoke rings (or steam-rings) and use a circularly-scanned laser to light the rings up.

  • Thx

  • This was my invention - you stole it

  • Bwahahahahah!! >:)

Your phase modulator design left plenty of room for improvement however, so I totally reworked that part. That, and the photon polisher... your's didn't even have one of those, so yeah. :)

  • Man , you have some cool diy stuff! This thing totaly looks like something that someone like me would have hours of fun with....Can you give me a few hints on what it actually is , cause I would really like to make one.I would like to do it without the HV stuff though so it would be as safe as possible....Or do the sparks play an key role (other than looking cool)?

  • Thanks, mrkiky. No high-voltage needed- that as just for show. Steam generator is a heater and tubing from an old coffee maker. The heater has a 1-way valve so the steam goes only one direction- that's the end that goes to the 'barrel'. I had to bypass the thermal cutout cause it'd opened and no current was going to the heater. Laser was mounted on a tripod and aimed into the end of the barrel from off camera. A few drops of water dripped into the heater from a drinking straw and voila! :)

  • what is the salt for??

  • It plays no part in the workings of the blaster, but just happened to be sitting next to the set-up when that part of the video was shot.

  • cool
