@jjkftw I didn't use Audacity to sync the two tracks together, I used GarageBand for that. I explain it all in the description, but basically, Audacity was only used to match Paramore's tempo with the tempo Dave's playing on the drums. After that, I exported the track, drag-and-dropped it into GarageBand (Paramore on one track, Dave Grohl on the other), lined them up and edited them so they matched, and then did the volume levels.
I can tell you personally, that you did an amazing job and I know for a fact that you put ALOT of effort and time into this peice. Excellent job! I heard Paramore's version of this and thought...How much better would this sound with the original drum track sound? :) THANK YOU FOR POSTING!
@Kyle28Fricks Thanks so much! I did put some time into it, getting the tempos right, editing around a bit; it was kind of a bear at times. If you think this one's good, on the My Band section of my Facebook page (just slap "jimmystrummermusic" at the end of the normal Facebook URL), I have another version of this mash-up with added bass AND backing vocals! You're free to check it out!
@jimmyjazz82391 hey man great job i was thinking of taking an isolated vocal track of dave grohl from jammit.com and using garaging band to put him in the key with williams and sinc their vocals on ur track, what do you think? or maybe you wanna do it since u put in the work for this track
@guitarist5477 Hey! Thanks for showing interest, but I think I addressed this very thing before, saying that it would just sound very strange no matter which way you edit it. If you go to my Facebook page (link in the description), I re-edited the song in a way that works, with additional bass & vocals by yours truly. But trying to use Dave's vocal to match? It would prove very strange, it wouldn't work all that well. =\
@greatfelixo *Playing. And yes, if you watch the "Back And Forth" documentary, Will and Dave clearly explain that Dave wasn't satisfied with Will's drumming on the rough cut of "Colour And The Shape", so he, Nate, and Pat went into a studio in L.A. to rerecord the entire album with Dave on guitar, vocals, AND drums.
@tommoboy9 Well, that's your opinion. I think Paramore is great, I think they write catchy music and Hayley has a powerhouse voice. I certainly don't think they're "wank."
@jimmyjazz82391 so youll talk shit about us but then say paramore is great. im friends with taylor and a few members. youre a shithead. quit causing trouble on youtube..
@FloralTerrace I'm entitled to an opinion. Sorry I don't like your band and your cover of a song by a band who I think is, quite frankly, so much better than you. And what "trouble" am I causing on YouTube? What "trouble" am I causing by having an opinion and voicing it? Relax, I'm just one guy on the whole of YouTube. You think I'm a shithead? I'm not even remotely rude compared to some of the people on here.
like someone else said, the paramore cover lacks the punch that the foos have, but only the foos have that, so you can only admire their atempt... i think that hayley's voice isnt suited for a strong song like this one, her voice is much more soothing, whereas dave's is like a roar... its a diferent take on the song i guess, not a bad one, but they could have done better, i think, on another foo fighters song
@Luis9933 I respectfully disagree, I believe they did a fantastic job and Hayley has a strong powerhouse voice (you hear it on songs like "Brick By Boring Brick," "Ignorance," and "Monster"). BUT I can see how a Foo fan wouldn't think this cover is up to snuff. Out of curiosity, what song do you think they could've done a better job with than this one?
@jimmyjazz82391 i would very much like to hear their take on Razor for example, especially because I think that hayley is much better a calm songs than Grohl, but Stranger Things Have Happened would sound nice too in my opinion, but these are acoustic songs, so they don't have the same punch as this one has, hearing this song live blows your mind away i can assure you that... Also, i'm not a paramore fan, i know some songs from them, and like hayley's voice very much, so i cant say much
I'm not going to lie, I don't like Paramore much. I'm not hating or anything, I just don't like their style of music. BUT. I REALLY like this cover, they did a fansastic job with it. She sure does have a great voice, though.
@NexusWAT No hate was perceived from this comment at all, my friend! At least not from my standpoint. They did do a really good job with it, especially Hayley!
@SMSLAX22 That IS true. If you go on my musician page (link in the description) and go to the My Band section, you can find an updated version I did with bass and backing vocals.
@achmedda3rd Maybe if you actually took the time to listen to more of their music instead of the only two fuckin' songs they play on the radio, "The Only Exception" and "Airplanes" (which isn't even Paramore), you'd know that they're not shit. They're actually very talented musicians, and they did a good job with this cover.
@ThePaulisBack I've clarified this before: the drums on My Hero, and the majority of The Colour And The Shape, are played by Dave. During the sessions, he wasn't satisfied with Will's drumming on the new songs, so he, Nate, and Pat went to California to rerecord almost all the songs without Will, Dave recording vocals, guitar, AND drums. Taylor wasn't in the band at this point.
@christomer32 I was purposely misspelling to make fun of you, idiot. By the way, this time you misspelled "can't" and "Paramore," and what's up with the random capitalization?? Wow, you really have no sense of grammar or spelling, do you? I feel sorry for you. Now go away.
@mattrobsmith93 Hmm, I dunno, maybe PARAMORE FANS? Including me?? Look, if you're just gonna waste my time and also waste space on my video's comments section, you can just GTFO right now. My videos don't need any undeserved negativity, especially from jerks like you.
@jimmyjazz82391 woah calm down, you've done a good job mixing all this so well done you, just think that the original vox/guitar version is better than this one
@mattrobsmith93 Well thank you, but your original comment seemed nasty and pointless. If you don't like Hayley's singing more than Dave's, just say so, instead of saying "Ugh, why would anyone wanna hear her sing it??" That's just rude.
@olivaix No, I disagree. Hayley's voice is beautiful and really serves the song well. Sure, the Foos' original is incomparable, but Hayley and the rest of Paramore do a great job with it, and I thought I'd add in a bit of the Foos original to spice it up a bit. I didn't "screw a perfect song," I was just being creative.
i like foo's 65465184561651894986 times better -.- buuuuut this is pretty good, i think she should've done the backup vocals or at least more of a duet almost like "broken" by seether with amy lee of evanescence, but still, kudos paramore
@SydneyRees Sure, just try to find any old YouTube-to-mp3 site and enter the URL to convert it to an audio file. I recommend video2mp3(dot)net. A lot of pop-up ads, but it's worth it for good quality conversion.
@305thODST Good idea in theory, but at the pitch I'd have to raise Dave's vocals to in order to match Hayley's, it wouldn't sound very much like Dave at all. It would sound like one of those damned Chipmunk versions. =\
@musiclover2161 Haha nooo I wasn't actually there, of course not. I guess it's just me being an über-fan as usual (and a bit of Wikipedia, but only for clarification).
@kevinmofo96 Thanks so much! Just go to Google and search "youtube to mp3" to find a website that makes mp3 files out of YouTube videos (9 out of 10 are pretty much the same).
@empr3 Actually, the Foo Fighters recorded most of "The Colour And The Shape" BEFORE Taylor joined the band. They were in between drummers during the sessions, so Dave played the majority of the drums, including the part on "My Hero," as well as lead vox and half of the guitars (the other half was Pat Smear).
