Just magnificent - so soulful, so yearning, yet so effortless...you get the vibe that she just stepped up to the mic and nailed the song in one take without even thinking about it...it's a straight line from her heart.
Hey Stubbie70, Hello Stranger, It's seems like a mighty long time. I'm so glad you are back in life. This record came out in 1962 I believe or if not it was 1963. I'm so happy that you're here again.
Hey Stubbie70, It's seems like a mighty long time 35 years. I'm so glad you are hear again. I still love you so, it's seems like a mighty long time & it is. Love ya girlfriend.
It was while searching for an audio rendition of this awesome, precious, and beautiful masterpiece that I got turned out by these YouTube music offerings. Now I'm hooked and spend countless hours listening. This has got to be one of the world's most extensive catalogs of music. Thank you reyesm13 for this posting, from a 63 year-old musician who is blown by all this music, literally at my fingertips - which is what I'm going to listen to next. "Fingertips" that is.
Classic; how is this song anything but perfection? Easily my favorite version, the background vocals are wonderful, the guitar and bass and drums and superb, and there's a feeling and sensuality that are in Barbara's vocals that are missing from any other version
Correction: Barbara Lewis wrote this song. I didn't know that. That makes her original all the more impressive. I love how much room the music gives her, the simple backup that sounds like what you'd hear given a diva at a club. Barbara's vocal is so clear, well-delivered, and emotional (on some CDs you can actually hear her reaching for air, the mike is so close). Yvonne Elliman's cover is a reverent knockout to me, but this original is the real deal, nobody could've done it better.
I can remember this song when I was growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina listening to the famous "Jacko" DJ on the local Black radio station. It's seem like a mighty time, I will always love you DJR.
Starbardd what is a grind song??? This is such a good song. I love this version as well as the version by Yvonne Elliman. Good music never fades or gets old. Nice post
A GRIND song is a sensual song. It starts with your shoulders moving slowly up and down and back and forth, and writhing your back into an 'S' curve.
More than likely, you are sitting down reading this, so I will give you the sitting version.
From the 'S' curve movement in your back to the archings of your waist, and undulating movements of your abdomen and lower pelvis, this is called grinding. Incorporate the movements from side to side with that of your hips and you have arrived!
Ahhh, the Hammond organ, smooth vocals and harmony, and a simple, yet unforgettable arrangement. My, my, my, this is music from a great era. Thanks for posting.
This is music. It brings back such memories. Easy-A-Man, OOOH...., it seems like a mighty long time, but my my my, I am so happy that u are here again.
stumbled upon this while browsing... Sure is a shame they don't make music like this anymore!!! I remember when music had feeling and you could here the emotion in the artist's voice, unlike a screaming Mariah Carey...
this song reminds of back in the days wen i was living that crazy life alot of painfull memories alot of dead homboys and my brother rest in peace but wen i hear these songs i remember the good times we had
This song was popular just before my wife and I got married 42 years ago. Yes I am old but still rock in my mind. Hail Hail Rock & Roll. Does anybody like this shit that passes for Rock music today? Lewis is wonderful isn't she? Yvonne Elleman is great on Lewis remakes.
barbara wrote her entire first album. she is from salem, michigan. a very small community outside south lyon, michigan and not far from ann arbor. she never recorded with motown. she came into my classroom when i was in about the 4th grade, (she would have been in junior high) and played a guitar and sang for our class. she had an amazing voice and she still does.
Barbara wrote "Hello Stranger", which went to #1 R & B and #3 Pop on the Billboard charts in 1963. It also received a Grammy nomination. There is a Barbara Lewis fan club at squidoo(dot)com(slash)barbaralewis and I have a Barbara Lewis fan page at myspace(dot)com (slash)barbaralewisfan with lots of pictures (a slide show) & lots of information. She came out of retirement and performs in Oldies shows with other Oldies artists. Please visit both sites.
this song is dedicated to tha 1 & only man that could put a smile on my face just by reading a couple words i will never forget you!!! for you... "mr.lazy" tha one & only "Tesa"! arizona baby!!!
Barbara Lewis at her best. Oh what memories this brings back of my high school days and "reuniting" with my boyfriend (my future husband) after not dating for over a year.

BEAUTIFUL soul! I'm only 35 years old, and white too. However, had I been an adult in the 60s, it wouldnt have been psychedelic rock that I dug; it would have been SOUL. I love this song; and GOOD QUALITY download too. THANKS FOR SHARING!
Everybody has their own sad song. This has been a thirty odd song for me. I grew up with these girls. I was brainless. All I cared about was a fuck. Yeh, that's right, I longed to get laid since I was three year old. This song as well as other slow songs did nothing but to stoke the fire that was burning in me.
This is a HATE AND LOVE SONG. But, I have grown past the hate and I Love The Song for the melody and the inspiration that Barbara Lewis has perveyed through her music.
