  • Just feeling a little bit down and felt that I needed to check in.

  • It was while searching for an audio rendition of this awesome, precious, and beautiful masterpiece that I got turned out by these YouTube music offerings. Now I'm hooked and spend countless hours listening. This has got to be one of the world's most extensive catalogs of music. Thank you reyesm13 for this posting, from a 63 year-old musician who is blown by all this music, literally at my fingertips - which is what I'm going to listen to next. "Fingertips" that is.

  • barbara lewis my favorite song for ever...

  • Awesome voice.

  • incredibly romantic song

  • i am a romantic

  • i love her voice from 146-148

  • me too, thats my favorite part =]]

  • I remember when this was a new release. The voice and the Hammond B3 organ blend perfectly.

  • Classic; how is this song anything but perfection? Easily my favorite version, the background vocals are wonderful, the guitar and bass and drums and superb, and there's a feeling and sensuality that are in Barbara's vocals that are missing from any other version

  • I love this song thankyou for putting on youtube. I play this several times aday.

  • me too

  • Barbara Lewis did do a good job, but check out Carrie Lucas version.

    SHORTIEQUE

  • I remember walking home from summer school in 65 singing along with Barbara on the radio. Super song!!!

  • Correction: Barbara Lewis wrote this song. I didn't know that. That makes her original all the more impressive. I love how much room the music gives her, the simple backup that sounds like what you'd hear given a diva at a club. Barbara's vocal is so clear, well-delivered, and emotional (on some CDs you can actually hear her reaching for air, the mike is so close). Yvonne Elliman's cover is a reverent knockout to me, but this original is the real deal, nobody could've done it better.

  • Who realy did this first?

  • Barabara Lewis wrote this song herself in 1963. Many other groups have covered it, but no one can sing it like she can.

  • A true jem of a song. Just beautiul. From a time that music was indeed MUSIC

  • I can remember this song when I was growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina listening to the famous "Jacko" DJ on the local Black radio station. It's seem like a mighty time, I will always love you DJR.

  • This is a favorite GRIND song of mine!

  • Starbardd what is a grind song??? This is such a good song. I love this version as well as the version by Yvonne Elliman. Good music never fades or gets old. Nice post

  • A GRIND song is a sensual song. It starts with your shoulders moving slowly up and down and back and forth, and writhing your back into an 'S' curve.

More than likely, you are sitting down reading this, so I will give you the sitting version.

From the 'S' curve movement in your back to the archings of your waist, and undulating movements of your abdomen and lower pelvis, this is called grinding. Incorporate the movements from side to side with that of your hips and you have arrived!

  • Thanks for explaining this to me. I got a full picture now. Well done.

    Smooches

  • This rola takes me back to my youth ese. Es de aquellas. Thanks for posting it Reyes.

  • man this song goes good wit me && this fool i know:]

cys i talked to him again in 4 months:]

    hello stranger,,,

  • Queen Latifah redid this oldie, and it also has a great beat.

  • Before her it was Yvonne Elliman in the 70's who did this song

  • Thanks for that bit of info, I don't remember her remaking this one. I did look her up and listen to her version, I prefer Q.L.'s version.

  • Barbara Lewis did this wonderful version way, way before Yvonne Elliman did hers.

  • this is such a good song- just saw an episode of Homicide: Life on the street, this song is used perfectly in it

  • damn good song takes me back to the hoodin chi town

  • DEScribes my boyfriend's and I love story!!!

  • firme ass song

  • didnt mary wells write it?

  • Barbara wrote "Hello Stranger", which went to #1 R & B and #3 Pop on the Billboard charts in 1963. It also received a Grammy nomination. There is a Barbara Lewis fan club at squidoo(dot)com(slash)barbaralewis and I have a Barbara Lewis fan page at myspace(dot)com (slash)barbaralewisfan with lots of pictures (a slide show) & lots of information. She came out of retirement and performs in Oldies shows with other Oldies artists. Please visit both sites.

  • Yes another great slow jam anyone want to BOP?

That was the dance along with the Walk in the 60's I'm lovin it

  • Yes, I remember those dances and days. I get misty-eyed when I hear this music and think back to being young and feeling that the world was somehow opening up to me. And I love the beautiful organ in this song that you rarely hear these days. What a sound!

  • instink!?!?!?!?!?!?! phew!!!!

  • Some of the most special memories of my life accompany this wonderful sound...thanks for posting....and the memories!!!

  • Oldies rule forever! My late, great Tio introduced this one to me over 20 years ago. Love it!!!!

  • This song just does something to me!! I can't explain but I love it!!

  • This reminds of high school. Sweet, bitter times. The elation and heartbreak of first love. 48 years and it is still a great tune.

  • i love this song and im only 16... oldies make me think of my gurl

  • Yeah I like making movies..and iw ant to bring the old stuff BACK. I hate the new shit with CGI and no story thats always comign out. What ever happen to character development? that what i ask people..it great to progress...but dont forget where music and these different genres came from. indeed bro...indeed!

  • Even though i'm 17 this song somehow reminds me of my brother's high school days.

and it's pretty damn funny cause he's 13 years older.

  • A true classic "soul" song from the 60's. It takes me back to my high school days.

    Ann Adams

    Thank you!

  • Seems like a mighty long time since I've heard a kool organ like this one!

  • Thank You.

  • this is a classic!

  • What a great song

  • I 'member 'Monte.. El Monte, California! Oldiesville,USA! Long live Art Laboe!

  • HELLO STRANGER...I'M SO HAPPY!

To the old (some have gone before us), and to the new! It seems like a mighty long time.

  • I like the organ on this. This background organ really made a lot of the old R&B and rock tunes. In the video of "A Tibute to George" Billy Preston (RIP) showed how it's done.

  • It's called a Hammond B3 and ( a long time ago) I owned one. Kick ass, gutsy and growlin' It was a mechanical organ and hasn't been mfg in years but you will still them on concerts.

  • My friend , Ray, and I just recalled the "Leslie" speaker which we heard at 60-70's concerts. Wonder if your B-3 was so equipped.

  • Actually the B3 required a tone cabinet but no one ever used the Hammond speakers we usually used Leslies turned around backward so the T/C horns were visible spinning. We used either Mod 147 or Mod 122RV with reverb. One tone cabinet was usually enough but some guys used 2. The guy who probaby popularized the B3 with other musicians the most was the jazz artist Jimmy Smith. Anyway that was years ago.

  • BEAUTIFUL soul! I'm only 35 years old, and white too. However, had I been an adult in the 60s, it wouldnt have been psychedelic rock that I dug; it would have been SOUL. I love this song; and GOOD QUALITY download too. THANKS FOR SHARING!

  • Another must have cut on any Ol School Soul collection.........MASTERPIECE.

  • Everybody has their own sad song. This has been a thirty odd song for me. I grew up with these girls. I was brainless. All I cared about was a fuck. Yeh, that's right, I longed to get laid since I was three year old. This song as well as other slow songs did nothing but to stoke the fire that was burning in me.

This is a HATE AND LOVE SONG. But, I have grown past the hate and I Love The Song for the melody and the inspiration that Barbara Lewis has perveyed through her music.

  • um jajaj yuh lie!!!! lmao and wow a rola like diz fuckin reminds yuh of that shit? then yuh got sum problemas ese lol

  • lol

  • Man oh man Barbara is drippin' with soul.
