G day mate. Thanks for the information. I've been flying 4 channel for a while now but your explanation was spot on. It has helped me. Thank you for your time and making the video for us.
@englandforeverist if it is the only one you want to fly at this stage then the basic radio is perfedctly fine. however if you plan to go to a higher heli like a 450 or 500 then I suggest a minimum of a Spektrum Dx7 or a JR 9503, I have both those radios and both are quite good, however if you want a simpler radio then the Dx6i would suffice or the Dx8 for something a little better, I personally dont like the "fatter" radios like Dx6 body etc
@jpandyaraja Due to the heli tail blades being lower than the main rotor blades yes that is true for all heli's, it is more evident on smaller heli's therefore to compensate so it lands straight on both skids the manufacturers tilted the main rotor at an angle, just picture this, imagine a tail blade 10 meters lower than the main rotor, it would tilt the heli quite a bit because it creating thrust at a lower angle, now imagine it dead smack in line with the main rotor, it cant make the heli tilt
I just got a 120SR a few weeks ago and wanted to know more about the dynamics of what is involved in turning. This is a great video explaining this. Hope you do more. Could you explain what is really happening with the forces of the heli when going straight and then a sudden turn 180 back. As the tail goes around does there have to be elevators back and then suddenly switch forward as it is spun around? Thanks a lot.
@knightday1973 Hi, where do I start.... there are so many forces in play its difficult to explain them all but what I can do is give you a comparison, lets assume we could keep the height level ie: cant go up and cant go down in height, now think of and ice rink and how you need to turn lets say someone pushes you and all you do is lean into corners now take your scenario and sudden turn back 180 deg while your friend is pushing you, can you imagine how the forces are? you need to lean hard
@darkdeltrith56 its the toughest micro helicopter I know, the answer is no, it does not break easy, I think I have some video's of high speed crashes here on youtube....
@darkdeltrith56 I had one of these, perhaps it was a lemon, but almost every time I crashed something broke. Sometimes the links just needed to be popped back on, other times the swash needed to be reseated. But other times, landing gear broke, tail motor broke, tail rotor bent, flybar broke, etc. I do believe it was the gyro because my sr120 was easier to fly indoors then the msr (no matter how it was trimmed) and that should not be...
So far I have purchased the Blade SR and the Blade MSR in that order and I have been advised to by Horizon to buy the Blade CX3 to gain more experience. I just wanted to ask your advice since your video does seem to help me but I still don't know if I should experience more coaxial flight.
It's my 3rd heli - just picked it up in Brizzy yesterday and it's by far the best designed micro heli I've flown.
The durability and design leaves cheaper models (ie walkera) in the dust. I was hovering in 1-2 batteries - couldn't do that with my old 4#3b in MONTHS!!
I'm currently trying to master the types of turns explained in your video. Your explanation of the physics is really helping.
@mattyd007 this heli is so much fun, heck I think I enjoy this as much as I do my 500 size heli's. The 4#3B is not an easy heli to fly, I think that a 450 or 500 heli is much easier than a 4#3b but the hardest heli to fly is the 4G3, its like what I would describe as a squirrel thats just eaten a box of coffee beans. But thats Walkera heli's for you and one crash on the walkera's = no more flying till you fix what breaks in the crash, at least this heli you can smash at high speeds 0 damage
I have a dx6i and I know that for planes it has dual rate and expo on it making the plane less responsive and easier to handle. Is there something like this for helis? Thanks
@bakonlicious Yes this heli in particular does have 2 settings by simply flicking one of your switches the heli becomes agile / docile couple this with the 2 positions for the swashplate linkages and you have a good range of response from very gentle to very swift.
@bakonlicious if you are using the DX6i then first make a new Airplane ACRO Model type on a vacant slot on your radio. Then bind the mSR to it using the new ACRO settings. This makes the mSR easier to learn. 73 M5FAB

Thanks a ton, from the way that you are speaking...you sound VERY smart and know in great detail how helis work. Thanks again. Good job, I might get this heli cuz of you.
good info altho the msr is very stable for its size to begin, you can get into trouble easy as this heli can certianly zoom around and put your abilities to the test! i always tell people i train to learn all your hover orentaions first. tail in, right and left side in, 45 deg nose in then full nose ins. slowy progress to foward flight. the msr as some odd flight qualities when pushed to its flight envelope. but its a great filler of the gap when you want to move up from the co ax to a cp heli.
@tvoice1 It's a cool heli, but, the tail motor end caps come off pretty easily. To fix the problem get some heat shrink and cover the tail motor with it, making sure you cover the end cap. Also the blade grips are prone to break and it's worth your while to upgrade to the aluminium rotor head to stop this happening. If you do these two thing the heli is ALMOST bulletproof. I've bounced mine off concrete posts and have kept on flying without crashing or breaking anything. Unlike my belt cp.
@trevorpom Thanks for the tips, but unfortunately I have already experienced both of those problems now. My tail motor cap is nowhere to be found and i'm currently grounded, awaiting new aluminium blade grips. Excellent heli, except for those weak-points though!
@tvoice1 I learnt the hard way too. The aluminium blade grips are excellent and the heat shrink on the tail motor cap works very well. I went through 3 tail motors before a friend told me about the heat shrink. I heat shrunk the 4th tail motor about 8 months ago and am still going strong despite crashing it a fair number of times. You can crash it pretty hard , pick it up, have a quick check of it and most times fly without having to fix or adjust anything.=D
my teacher told me think of your cyclic stick is sticking out of the top of the head watever way you tilt the stick the helicopter will move .... providing its tail in.
Another tip for beginners using the RTF transmitter is after you turn your transmitter on push the right joystick in. It doesn't matter if you've got mode 1 or 2 still push in the right joystick and it puts the transmitter in to "beginner mode". When you are in beginner mode the red led on the transmitter will flash instead of solid.
Basically it just makes the controls less sensitive.
I'm using it and I can already fly around the room and land after only 5 batteries. It's my first heli too.
can someone please tell me why the mast is tilted to the right and if it affects flying in any way? i got an msr 3 days ago and have only flown it twice until i noticed the mast and i thought it was broken i was going to return it but i just wanted to know if it was normal
@thecatsgonewild Lol I did exactly the same thing as you! I thought maybe it had been bent in shipping or something and I thought the shop wouldn't believe me and say I must have crashed it. But no, it's normal. Everyone that has an msr has the same tilt, so it must be. Also if you look on the box at the picture you can see the tilt.
@thecatsgonewild It happens with all non coaxial helicopters, I bought an msr and had trouble with it tilting and thought it was the heli going wrong but got used to it after a while. I then bought a belt cp 2 and found the same thing happening in a much larger and more powerful heli. A friend told me what was happening and now I dont even think about it anymore. The msr is a great way to learn before going for a full 3d heli, it's saved me heaps in repairs because I knew what to expect.
In a stable hover the mast will always tilt to the right a little bit.
The reason is that the tail rotor isn't just counteracting the torque of the main rotor, it's pushing the heli to the left as well. A bit of right cyclic is necessary to counter that thrust.
ok i have only had my Msr about a day it just came down to me adjusting the linkages by threading down or up to get closer to the full range of motion on the transmitter now that i have it hovering good it seems when i go to take off flying i get a WOBBLE very slight but very annoying ... I just replaces all the blades with stock replacements... and have gone threw the trouble shoot guide that the blade web site offers.
its supposedly the gyro adjusting with that tiny tail rotor motor that cant quite keep up. mine does the same thing and i have crashed 10 times more than i have actually landed. btw, never upgrade to collective pitch helis. they SUCK! i pissed $200 away on an SR and have done nothing but crash(costing me an additional $100). its not even fun so dont waste your money
great info, BUT a few new people will keep looking at the rotor because they are in a hurry, WAY too many people think that flyin helis is that easy, from my experience (very limited of course) is that you should ALWAYS look at the canopy!!! Just my experience in my limited knoledge...
Mast can be seen at all angles, canopy can not (especially from behind)
Seeing 5 deg in the mast is easy
seeing 5 deg in the canopy is not
When you get to larger heli's and looking at the mast during inverted hover is the best way, but I guess if you dont look at the rotor then that in itself is a great habbit, but the lower you get in the heli the longer the delay, ie: looking at skids is the worst as they move last
when you fly larger helis you will see what I mean
Thanks a lot, looking forward to learn more!

0:58 I call that "wipping" That happend to me. First flight with a E-Sky CP V2
I swinged it upper and upper, cause I can't conroll it. at the end I touched a wall with the landing gear xD since that I can hover a Heli... LOL
RCPhilN 5 months ago
You can't see the mast angle in pitch when its facing away from the pilot.
Likewise, you can't see the mast angle in roll when facing hele side on.
Better to paint rotor tips, one stripe on top, two stripes underneath and watch the rotor disk move.
You will then see the disk move long before the mast due to their respective lengths.

The RTF set comes with a basic looking radio! Does it work quite well with that radio or would you reccommend getting a better one?
Cheers.
