  • Good old opening themes.. they seem to be gone forever. So what if it takes a minute away from the actual show when it's this good.

  • I think I'd watch this, if it came back in syndication.

  • That show rocketed Michael J. Fox's career.

  • shhaaannnanaa

  • Justine Bateman was so hot back then!

  • The 80s are so underrated.

  • Michael Gross guest-starred on an episode of SPIN CITY once when his Family Ties co-star Michael J. Fox was the star. Gross sported a beard at the time. I know because I saw it.

  • There were one or more times during the Family Ties run when Michael Gross shaved his beard down to a moustache and regrew it. He did a TV movie where he only had a moustache. Sometime after FT ended,Gross would shave the beard completely. He did another TV movie called VESTIGE OF HONOR with Gerald McRaney in 1990 who then starred on CBS's Major Dad and Gross was completely clean shaven. After the FT run,Gross had the beard on and off.

  • This is the seasons 2 and 3 opening montage. Michael Gross had grown a beard by the beginning of season 2 and kept it thru the 1989 cancellation. That's gross! LMFAO!!!!!!

  • This was the version used from seasons 2-7. You'd hear two other voices in season 1.

  • I love it, because is Michale J. Fox ahahahaha i love him =)

  • Gotta love the 80's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sha la la la

  • I haven't watched this show in decades, but from what I remember it was a good show.

  • Roses are red

    violets are blue

    this show sucks

    and so do you.

  • i tried to paint this in art class once , shit came out fucked up . i couldnt fuckin draw michael j cox rite but i still got a b for effort

  • I love this show. It's on every day at 8:00 on the Hub.

  • =)

  • Looks shit

  • @davesmith20092009 go back in the ghetto with you trash

  • @davesmith20092009

Never judge a show by it's intro!

  • Someone please tell me who is singing the theme tune to this!

  • Comment removed

  • @candelise

    Deniece Williams and Johnny Mathis.

  • @masanf Sure, but there was another couple who sang the theme. Who were they?

  • @candelise

I have no idea to whom you are referring, but the couple singing the theme in this video is Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams.

  • @masanf If you catch some of the very earlier editions of this show you will hear a couple singing this theme who are not Mathis and Williams.

  • FAMALY TIES OR TIES FAMALY THE REUNION SOON ON FOXC THIS IS AMAZING THERES A PART THAT MICHAEL J FOX SAYS 1992 DEMOCRATS WILL WIN AND EVEN ON CONGRESS ITS VERY FUNNY BECAUSE IT HAPPEN

  • Had a huge crush on Justine Bateman ... but could never get her brothers image (Jason) out of my head when I tought of her lol

  • Great show! Big fan of Michael J. Fox. Liked the father figure image of Michael Gross.

  • I love Martin Heard.

  • I loved the dynamic between teh hard core republican son and the hippie parents, always fun to watch.

  • The 80's were like being on another planet.

All this crap now on tv is unrecognizable.

  • you say it!

  • @jb2134 I disagree with that....shows like The Sopranos, The Wire are great and there's lots of great comedies too.

I think the cartoons were way better in the 80s but not really all the shows...just my opinion

  • @ardeestephen100 Very true, but a lot of the good shows are on cable now. Network tv is what's turned to junk vs the 80's.

  • wow for some strange reason when I saw this as a kid I knew Michael J Fox looked Familiar because I seen Back to the Future and when I saw him I was like that's Marty

  • this is when TV was awesome, granted i never liked this show but i respect it

    1.

Tv themes were good enough to be released on their own

    2.

shows were funny for both parents and kids to set around and watch, we used to watch sitcoms with my mother and dad, now I don't know any programs that both kids, teens and adults watch together

  • TV used to kick ass. Why is there so much garbage on TV these days? Seriously, two and a half men? WTF IS THAT?

  • You see fatface111, most of the media of the new milennium has deteriorated in terms of critical reception. Everything if not most of it: tv, movies, music.

  • @fatface111 the Democrats took over after Reagan and Bush Sr.

Just think of what TV will be like after 4 or even "gulp" 8 years of Obama.

  • What a freakin scary thought 4 is bad enough leaves us in bigger shit than Bush ever imagined.

  • @fatface111

    valid point. .

  • @fatface111yeah i dont watch much tv these days either i actually look for seasons like this online.

  • @fatface111 I have to say, Two and a Half Men is better than those stupid reality shows. At least it takes real actors and writers to pull it off. Reality shows, ruined TV, MTV and made talentless, temperamental people stars. But yes, Family Ties kicked ass!

  • @fatface111 You got a point Tv sucks. I'd like to bring back the family shows instead of all the sex on TV. I write stories. I like two and half men.

  • @fatface111

I am with you mate....Growing Pains, Famiy Ties....these were the best shows on TV. Good old fashion comedies

  • 80s TV rocked! Family Ties, Happy Days, Knight Rider, Growing Pains, The Cosby Show, Miami Vice.

  • Don't forget about Married with children?!

  • You say The OC-I say Family Ties

You say Kyle XY-I say the Cosby Show

You say Denise I.C.-I say Fresh Prince of B.A.

You say Hannah Montana-I say Three's Company

You say new TV rules-I say most of it is mediocre.

  • as a kid in the 80's shows like this were the best. I still enjoy the repeats. The only sad thing is when you grow up things change.

  • Is that Stephen Gross or Stephen Kitnick from Las Vegas?

  • It's actor Michael Gross.... after this show he did a bunch of cheesy "tremors" sequels that went straight to dvd, as well as the random tv movie here and there....

  • I was a little kid...like 3 or 4 when this was on... but dammit, I wanted that yellow phone for my house.

  • love it such a happy family

  • I love how a song can take you back to another place and time.

  • I loved how Family Guy once parodied the opening sequence with the picure of the family when Peter was doing it.

  • that's our secret bush. if you tell anyone about that bush, i will CUT YOU!

    lol

  • Even though eye wasn't born in the 80s, I love 70s and 80s shows. I just LOVE tuning into TV Land and either viewing or learning about shows like Family Ties, The Brady Bunch, The Cosby Show, Good Times, One Day At A Time, Taxi, and all that good stuff!

  • im glad to hear that! i watched shows that where made years before i was born. yet for some reason kids today can only watch shows of today and are told (jokes in shows) that shows of yesteryear are bad.

  • TV Land used to be my favorite channel as a kid, and this is from someone who was born in the 90s!

  • @jamaicanpharaoh100 I was a kid in the 80's I remember watching this live with my parents and brothers fun times man...fun times

  • they don't make shows like this anymore. What has happen to TV ????

  • TV is for mindcontrol.

    No honesty allowed.

  • @RB215 you know your parents probably said the same thing about these shows.

  • @RB215 i'd just label it as "the descent of society."

  • i loved this show. check out the groovy yellow phone at :25 seconds. retro!

  • Not making fun, but wonder why nobody thought the brush painting at the beginning was too large :)

  • The painting is so beautiful.

  • That song brings back so many memories. Thanks for posting.
