  • I'm making a documentary on ghosts...it's not possible to get one on one interview though.

  • @Microglia1 Nice!

  • now i know hw to do documentary..thanks soo much =)

  • Some of the things he's saying seems very useful, but I don't like the idea of getting your subjects to paraphrase their own answers.

These examples seem to be commonly used in conspiracy type documentaries and reality TV, and not the true-to-life, fly-on-the-wall type features that actually document the lives of people.

I'm just saying I prefer Maysles Broothers type documentaries over Michael Moore style any day, in which case these tactics take away from the realism of a documentary.

  • why cant they look at the camera?

  • @marcooceguedaisapimp It gives a very unnatural feel to the video.

  • FULL EPISODES TV[.]USNETXXX[.]COM

  • Are there any aspiring indie filmmakers out of NJ

  • one thing i'd say is i'd put them with a background that has production value.

All the best with your next docu work!

  • Oh please!

  • @2010khanzada

Newbies need the basic stuff. Everyone has to start somewhere. Stay humble and you'll get further.

  • great videos really helpful information thanks

  • Hey I'm fifteen and I live in south-east london england. I feel that there isn't anything for teenagers to do with film before their old enough to go film school. Add and message me if you agree and want to start a new group.

  • enter a film festival.

  • "pins" I think is what he is saying. to mean "small spots of light in their eyes"

  • Hey everybody!

I'm a student of English and liked this video very much but I absolutly don't understand what the speaker says about the light in the eyes: "its really important that also the lights reflect in their eyes, that you are having the ? of light in their eyes"

I would be interested in that word - can anybody help me?

  • wow that was amazing thanx

    god bless,

  • The shirt he's wearing is not an ideal type to attach a clip-on mic to. Button up shirts are better.

  • I always send them the questions before hand- it gives them a chance to prepare a coherent answer. Surprising or ambushing people with questions makes them look uncomfortable and stupid and is a creepy thing to do to people.

  • Thanks for the advice.

  • dont have a car dickhead.

  • EmeraldAisle, on an interview, the interviewee is not addressing the audience. In this instructional video, he is addressing the audience.

  • I'm making a documentary at school. This will help when we do interviews.

  • I wouldn't send the person to be interviewed the list of questions. Preparation gives them time to think about what people want them to say, as opposed to what they truely think.

  • try it......you'll see. you're idea is good if you're michael moore and you're trying to destroy a life through fake investigation, but it will make a real documentary suffer.....not to mention you'll have way more to edit in the end

  • This may be true, but it would be quite a long time if the person had to think about what they were going to say, maybe causing frequent awkward silences. The person may be pressured into saying something they didn't necessarily intended to say, but just said it because they had to say something.

  • You are confusing documentaries with personal interviews. Documentaries should be factual, so it is better if the interviewee is prepared.

  • Hello, don't be a GEEK

  • Hello, don't be a LAMER.

  • @Romanorum cinema verite for the win

  • @Romanorum That's nonsensical thinking. Giving them the questions before hand allows them to think more about the questions and answer them more deeply. On the other hand, not giving them the questions before hand will make them answer the questions more nervously and they won't be thorough or concise.

  • @oommggdude I think for questions that have more objective answers, that might just be giving background information or maybe a description of the person's career, you can send over beforehand, because you really want those answers to be clear and concise, and thought out. Questions that demand more of an opinion shouldn't be sent over beforehand. Those are the questions that you really want honest and refreshing answers for, and asking them on the spot is better for that.

  • thanks this will help with our documentary
