1) he is using a mod which saves possition by knifing (codjumper mod)

2) he is using to cancel out the previous jumps drawbacks. if you jump 2 quickly the second jump is lower

the first option is more likely

That's not true, PS3/Xbox 360 it depends on what controller layout you like. PC, just because you can reach more bounces don't make it easy.
