I have one of these too Aussie 50. When I got mine quite a few years ago the HV tranny was blown up. I sourced a new HV tranny for it from the Kelly Company here in Melbourne. I thought while I was at it that I would convert the lamp control gear from iron core to an electronic ballast. I think it was a worthwhile thing to do so, as it has prolonged the lamp life. Considering the circular lamp is not cheap. It's probably a little more efficient too.
@jpotscene yeh your pretty much showing your worth right now, just another God loving extremist that preaches love towards one thing and hate and violence towards another.
@jpotscene lol I actually thought you were making a joke about the animal liberators moving onto bugs.....
I guess you really are a nut-job.
the whole God thing tops it off
you'll be pleased to know I have 3 commercial zappers running here now. last Saturday was dynamite!, non stop arcing, 10's of thousands of fried bugs :D
I got myself one of the cheap, modern ones the otherday, didn't do shit. The bugs got a tiny jolt, got unconcious and 5 mintues later they got up again and flew away. If they found the way into it in the first place, that is......
Needless to say I returned that piece of crap in no time.
@ELHV new zappers are really disappointing :(. not sure where to shop for one like this but if you can find a good used one its well worth buying :D. this thing carbonizes big bugs in seconds :D
@fritzhvac Hey man!, yeha Brad gave me a good deal on this one!. our mozzies are tiny compared to yours tho, its the march flies yu gotta watch at certain times of the year!
Awesome Zapper.....saw heaps of these Simon Insect O Cutor units in the 90's. Wish I had one:( Keep us up to date on how many you caught, especially after winter.
They used to have a HUGE insectecuter at the old horse barn where my brother kept his horse. I loved the l-o-n-g zapps that those horse flies made, burn baby burn! I have an industrial zapper in my yard that I got from a barn sale. But I noticed that there are not as many birds, could be killing off their food supply, and I like the birds. We also have lotsa bats to keep the skeeters in check. I will show them when I put up my ponds vid.
If you were dumb enough to put your fingers into the grill on the insect killer, would the current discharge be power enough to kill you, or would it just give you an almighty shock? The fan blades on that air conditioning unit appeared to be turning very slowly, is that just because of your digital camera? Back in the early 90's I remember that quite a few people I knew had those bug zappers at home near their barbicues, now nobody seems to have them, at least not as far as I know.
@Lachlant1984 I would say the current could kill you if you grabbed live with one hand and earth with the other.
just sticking your hand on it would be very painful, sorta like a NST. you'll roll around on the floor, cry for mommy and wet yourself uncontrollably, but you may not die.
the condensing unit fan was running fast,, its just the camera FPS nearly matches the blade frequency
@Lachlant1984 Old cars had a small capacitor filled to the brim with DC current inside the distributer. You created the bridge on that damn thing and your body would stiffen up so bad it would be about half to one full second before you could prevent yourself from falling over. Managed to make a carpenter ant the bridge between the contacts and the damn bug literally exploded.
@Lachlant1984 I used to work for a wholesalers years ago, where one Christmas someone tried attaching tinsel to the bug zapper in the canteen. He won't be doing that again in a hurry!
mad cool job. nice to see it work again.. you could sell it back to the F&C shop for 300$.lmao. cool it has a double side starter housing. you know it will go zap when you plug stuff in and make you jump.

@BiLock102 lol cool, theres already a mess of tiny ones on the bottom tray!

@Aussie50 Thanks. Note today's insect traps are crap. Most now use glue boards instead of a killing grid with a blacklight lamp:(

I wonder the cost per bug vs kilowatt hr. Right now there is this fly buzzin around here and he needs to become a statistic. ...lol
yrulooknatme 1 year ago
@yrulooknatme power consumption isn't too bad, the transformer is rated at .18A and the tube is just a normal 40W fluro
