This is the second time within the past year or so (that I know of) that Mr. Knight has taken a pot shot at UK. The only thing that makes sense to me is that Mr. Knight is jealous. His jealousy stems from his rivalry with UK from back in the day and evidently he, like the rest of the college basketball world, thinks UK seems to be on the verge of winning another national title very soon while his beloved IU is still floundering, no where near being on it's way to winning another title
One bit of proof that it bothers him is that he just rambled off a bunch of jibberish to attempt to portray UK in a negative light. He never took the time to research UK only lost 4 starters to the draft. The 5th player drafted didn't even start. Darius Miller, the other starter that season, was a sophomore but, had enough credits to finish his junior academic year after the school year was over so common sense says he was in class.
And since we are assuming, is it fair for me to say that think because of Knights own words and actions that he is a raciest bigot? All I see is a OLD man who years have long passed him by, Texas Tech proved that, and speaking of "BAD FOR THE GAME", SO WHAT WAS TRYING TO MAKE A COLLEGE TEAM A REALITY TV DRAMA?! As far as not coaching, your right being 5-1 against future hall of fame coaches on his way to the Final Four was PURE luck, Donavan(twice), Huggins, Mata, and Williams.
I ask one simple question, what round was Miller drafted in last year? And how did wall leave with a 4.0 and a degree. All but Orton came to campus EARLY the year before and left with a degree or the ability to return for their degree at alter time. You know like all NBA talent has been do since the Late 80's.
One of the other starters, Patrick Patterson, graduated after 3 years. Again, common sense says he was in class. John Wall had a 3.8 GPA. Yet again, common sense says he was in class. If Mr. Knight wants to just flat out say he doesn't like UK basketball that's fine. But, if he going to preach about the lessons of young men getting an education while in college (which we have all heard him do a million times) then he should acknowledge the ones who do.
He should not ridicule those young men for not getting an education or their school for not making sure those young men are in class when in fact everything was as it should have been. Mr. Knight has been a strong advocate for young men getting their education for a long time and for him to do this to those young men who DID do their work and who DID go to class only to be ridiculed by him is a downright shame.
Mr. Knight should be embarrassed and appologize to those young men and to their families for his remarks and he should appologize to UK because the staff made sure those guys did their work. If Mr. Knight wants to talk and be taken as a credible voice for ESPN then he should, at the very least, know what he is talking about...
The fact of the matter is, only 1 player from that team, Daniel Orton, didn't finish classes, and he was universally blasted by the entire UK fanbase.
Perhaps that statement wasn't meant to be a factual statement. I mean do these guys really think, they can make statements like that and NO ONE is going to fact check you? Coach Knight seems to be still stuck in the 70's

The one-and-done rule is an NBA rule, not an NCAA rule. Knight really ought to know that, for somebody who knows so much about college basketball. Knight also wants guys to stay 3 years. RMK says it well. I agree with his sentiments and people who view him as irrelevent need to rethink that position. His way was to provide the student athlete with a solid foundation - as a player and more importantly as a productive person. That always will be his greatest legacy. That he won more than 900 games - eclipsed only be his protege also speaks to his legacy. He is more relevent now than ever.

The reason so many people are upset is what he said about that team is not factual. As many people have pointed below, one of those players (Patterson) already graduated. Another (Miller) will graduate this year. A third (John Wall) had over a 3.0 GPA. If he had said "only 60% of that team went to class", he may or may not have been accurate (depending on the other two starters).
@davisoldham To add to what you said Eric Bledsoe also finsihed the semester ad did Demarcus Cousin. The only player that didn't was Daniel Orton but he is a complete idiot and that is how most UK fans feel about him I feel. Wall actually ended that semester with a 3.5 GPA. Coach Knight was convicted for assaulting a police officer, was videotaped assaulting his own players, said that "if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it", was eventually fired from IU for assaulting a student, and was forced by ESPN, to apologize for the statements made in this video. Patrick Patterson graduated from Kentucky in three years. DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe finished their classes in the spring semester despite preparing for the NBA draft. You wouldn't have to worry about "one and done" if the NCAA would just allow players to go to the NBA straight out of college. What college did Kobe Bryant go to? LeBron James? I loved Bobby Knight Indiana Basketball and wish he was still at IU. It has never been the same. As we say in Indiana - You knew all about Bobby when you decided to go to IU - If you had been good enough to play for him I am sure you could have gone to another good program. As for your Rupp comments - you are citing examples about things he did in his last 3 years as coach, after everyone else already started bringing in African American players. I am talking about his behavior over the course of a 42 year career, most especially during the civil rights movement. He was most definitely a racist.

@mrbobevans Well Bob, Kentucky fans had to live through what Indiana is suffering in the late 80''s, and IU has the #1 recruiting class for 2012, and an awesome class for 2011, so we are on our way back, and when that happens, it will be in tradition of Indiana basketball, with student athletes who are expected to perform in class as well as on the court. It will not be the trashy one and done philosophy of Calipari. So enjoy that.

This is the second time within the past year or so (that I know of) that Mr. Knight has taken a pot shot at UK. The only thing that makes sense to me is that Mr. Knight is jealous. His jealousy stems from his rivalry with UK from back in the day and evidently he, like the rest of the college basketball world, thinks UK seems to be on the verge of winning another national title very soon while his beloved IU is still floundering, no where near being on it's way to winning another title

One bit of proof that it bothers him is that he just rambled off a bunch of jibberish to attempt to portray UK in a negative light. He never took the time to research UK only lost 4 starters to the draft. The 5th player drafted didn't even start. Darius Miller, the other starter that season, was a sophomore but, had enough credits to finish his junior academic year after the school year was over so common sense says he was in class.

I ask one simple question, what round was Miller drafted in last year? And how did wall leave with a 4.0 and a degree. One of the other starters, Patrick Patterson, graduated after 3 years. Again, common sense says he was in class. John Wall had a 3.8 GPA. Yet again, common sense says he was in class. If Mr. Knight wants to just flat out say he doesn't like UK basketball that's fine. But, if he going to preach about the lessons of young men getting an education while in college (which we have all heard him do a million times) then he should acknowledge the ones who do.

The one-and-done rule is an NBA rule, not an NCAA rule. Knight really ought to know that, for somebody who knows so much about college basketball. Knight also wants guys to stay 3 years. Unless you're Patrick Patterson or Kemba Walker, that doesn't get you a degree. If he's so proud of his graduation rate, how does going to school for 3 years do anything?

RMK says it well. I agree with his sentiments and people who view him as irrelevent need to rethink that position. His way was to provide the student athlete with a solid foundation - as a player and more importantly as a productive person. That always will be his greatest legacy. That he won more than 900 games - eclipsed only be his protege also speaks to his legacy. He is more relevent now than ever.

The reason so many people are upset is what he said about that team is not factual. As many people have pointed below, one of those players (Patterson) already graduated. Another (Miller) will graduate this year. A third (John Wall) had over a 3.0 GPA. If he had said "only 60% of that team went to class", he may or may not have been accurate (depending on the other two starters).

Bottom line is, Knight knowns NOTHING about Kentucky. He has never stepped foot on their campus, so how the fuck would he know which players go to class and which ones don't? There are some people who you wish would never have learned how to talk and Knight is one of them.
