nothing against damien, O's one of the most played albums in my life, but i think its worth everyone scoping out some of lisa hannigan's newer stuff. give a voice like that a foreground to toy with and it can do some damage. that being said, this song, and whole album for that matter, is something that will be remembered, and for good reason. (meaningful) simplicity and (meaningful) melody are two things all too lost from music today. Not to mention content. Keep rocking

Lisa Hannigan is the female singer. I saw Damien Rice 3 years ago and she had just walked out on him ( the whole tour actually) right before the show!!! and it was still an unbelievable show ( but I love her too) Vyvienne did One of her original Cello pieces solo- it was cool, he was proud of her- just awesome! I do believe that Lisa is no longer with him...=(

@rover28 He is using a pick. He cups it in his forefinger when he slaps the body of the guitar with his hand @1:02 which makes it appear like he doesn't have one. I was really curious after reading your post because his picking IS really percussive and I could swear I was hearing a pick hit the strings. You can see him drop it back into his palm a 4:35 if you watch it carefully on full screen.

thanks for that. I find it hard to play this. easy to play the chords but hard to make it sound like this. that guitar has a real nice tone think also those C12 mic's are helping pick up the muted bits. its mad though to get that much tone strumming with your thumb. Usually (unless you make an effort to catch the thumbnail) this type of strumming sounds soft. Dont know how he makes it sound brittle with his thumb.
