I thought Maxim was having a heart attack or an epileptic one. He don't need to move like that is overstated and affected. After all, the sound is good.

Actually a great performance. Another great performance of this is by Benjamin Beilman. A great young violinist, check his performance from the montreal international, it's actually great.
vengerov's interpretations are always very inspirational to me....so much life, creativity, and passion in his playing. i only hope i can be as great of an artist someday!
I find it so distasteful, rude, and stupid to see some criticize great artists just because their personal preference makes them like another artist. Hahn, Ferras, Vengerov, and so many others are masters, all unequaled in their own way. Only a very uncultivated person would denigrate one just because of personal taste. We are so very fortunate to be able to enjoy such a multitude of amazing interpretations! Stop criticizing them people! Start enjoying and maybe get a life.
Though I enjoyed Christian Ferras' rendition greatly, Maxim Vengerov 's performance affects my feelings more and seems more impressive. Especially his Adagio di molto appeals to me.
@a1rb0rne101 To answer your question, that isn't a squeak but a perfect alignment of multi-semi tones with in a whole tone producing a perfect tonal quality where in the note is sharped which is how the composer has written it to be so, even with in the sharped there is still perfect multi-semi tonal alignment and quality occurring-I hope this answers your question:).
I've been studying Hahns interpretation of this piece extra carefully, so I really found it interesting to see this video (thank you dzidkonia) Even though this is absolutely amazing I find Hahns playing fitting better in my taste. For example how she really dares to expose the listeners to those very dissonant (but beautiful) double-stoop septimes.
Hahn's video on youtube does not even compare to this in terms of pure emotional expression. I couldn't even stand to watch hers past the first minute. This video is amazing and has truly inspired me.
@angusthegreat I agree with you wholeheartedly on this one, unfortunately there are thoses who just listen to classical music and they think that they are experts on the subject which turns these types of people into rude, condescending snobs who think that it is alright to bash the greatest musicians of our times and these types of people think that the world wants to hear their bashing sessions when in fact we don't. ...
@angusthegreat Just because someone listens to classical music and attends a few orchestral performances doesn't give them a trained ear in music nor does it make them an expert on this subject. True classsical music lovers and musicians like myself who have devoted much study to classical music know the truth of the greatness of Vengerov and other great musicians as well and we appreciate this greatness for what it is..
There're a lot of parts of this interpretation i really like, but i also really like Oistrakh's rendition of this piece. I think this piece would sound really nice if those to renditions were somehow combined.
He has the Sibelius down just like Christian Ferras in the Duesche Grammophone recording from the 60s, beautiful expression, wonderful phrasing and interpretation, love it!!
with the "new" juilliard, there tends to be a Juilliard sound. i'm not saying its bad, but there should be more variety in the way people play. i'm glad vengerov exists, because he is the epitome of unconventional playing, but it still makes sense.
hmm i don't think it's one of the finest interpretations of sibelius, yes its amazing, but oistrakh's is way more stunning, u should hear it, atleast i think personally.

he plays great but what's with all the mugging? it's along the lines of Lang Lang.

Christian Ferras's interpretation of this piece is supreme.
it doesn't compare to the rest
but Vengerov is amazing! his interpretation for lalo espagnole is just... wow
and i truly respect hillary hahn.
i went to see her a couple of times
jkmylol 3 years ago
@makinwv190 I cannot agree with you more. Her play is so poor. She should go to Maxim Vengerov's master class.

Thanks for posting this recording! Vengerov is one of my favorite violinists! His interpretation of the Bruch is unsurpassable.
And what's with all the spam on this video?

I like when he gives space to the solo viola in the slower section.

Not that Vengerov is bad but you should listen to Kavakos' interpretation.
IT IS THE BEST THERE IS!
(I don't think that anyone has uploaded it though)

I love vengerov, but I was dissapointed with this performance.
I would say Hahn, Ferras, and Oistrakh all outshine him on this.

His face looks like he is suffering from some kind of serious adverse drugreaction, antipsychotics I guess. But he playing is truely amazing

Vengerov's facial expressions resemble sooo much the old cartoons of Heifetz :) This guy is amazing.
