i thought Mike Smith from Suffocation pioneered the "Metal" blast beat, since the blast beat is originally a jazz concept, though it was utilized differently and played with different parts of the kit in jazz. I remember Mike Smith popping up with the "Metal" blast beat, but the theory of a European origin is plausible too...

Even without triggers, I didn't hear any inconsistencies at all there, still. If there are, they're so subtle you'd have to be truly anal to hear them. all you hear people say about some songs is:

"hey, listen to that bassdrum,listen to that blast beat, how fast".

drummers and their sound gets reduced to what I´d call a machine. if you want a 100% of tightness, full sounds, no inconsistency - please, just take a drumcomputer.

we still are human and what we play ist still an instrument.

at least, it should sound, like we play it.

real sounds of hits and kicks help to let it roll, guys!

Bullshit, I mean bullshit in the technical sense. I actually do enjoy my own music more, but the level of technique that Roddy has should be shown here in a way. He's been so precise and accurate in the releases he has done before. What went wrong now?

I believe this is a case of "can't please everyone 100% of the time".

The reasons you hear "inconsistency" is because.... the kick drums are real.

Meaning...no sound replacing, triggering, etc....

I chose to do this... knowing I would hear replies such as yours but, I made a choice for this DVD... to have real drums on it.

It sucks that we've gotten to a point in recording history in which... we have forgotten what real drums sound like....without all the sound replacing triggering etc.

Well, it's indeed the phenomenon you're talking about. "Pro Tools" metal is in fashion now so it can be a bit blinding when someone goes for real (I didn't even notice that here :). And you can only get a really good bass drum sound (for extreme metal) from a Sonor kit, prominently an SQ2 kit!
