Thanks soooo much for sharing this video!!! I'm a HUGE Hall & Oates fan and have always been looking for the additional footage from the Musikladen era...ooooh to be able to be there!!!! At least I can see these tremendously talented guys on Youtube. Love the line-up now, but geez, this is magical....You guys have and always will rock my world!!!! Cheers!!!
@NoCanDu Thanks for the reply...Nope, this footage isn't on the Musikladen disc. I finally got it again after wearing out my VHS copy, and nope...not this version, no Lady Rain, no Falling....I guess I'll just have to wait...Always on the hunt for Hall & Oates....thanks again!!! Love your user name too by the way!!!
The Todd Rundgren production IMHO helped this record. It showed the possibilities of Hall & Oates in the studio. It showed that they could be cutting edge Philly Soulsters. Instead they chose the safe route with Voices and H2O.
Not taking anything away from H&O. War Babies was a Utopia record with Daryl singing but that's what made it good. They discarded this record but it was really good. Every bit as good as Abandoned Luncheonette if not better. They wiped it away from memory, lord knows why. War Babies was a pivotal album in the history of H&O.
Yeah, early Hall and Oates is a lot different than 'Private Eyes' and 'Maneater'... I don't have 'War Babies' but I've had 'Abandoned Luncheonette' for some time - it's great...
This performance of Is It A Star was on the British TV show The Old Grey Whistle Test and happened when Bigger Than Both of Us was hitting the charts in 1977.
I love the War Babies album. Atlantic Records did release the album as a CD in 1998 as part of the 50th anniversary of Atlantic records. I recall picking up the CD via CD Universe on line. I think you'll find it can be ordered via Amazon too.
war babies is a import...try virgin records stores....mmmm..ebay...ive see the cd on ebay and on the net..``is it a star`` my fav H&O tune. thnaks 4posting it.
I love the War Babies record, but it set them back at the time coming after the mellow "Abandoned Luncheonette" record. War Babiees was produced by Todd Rundgren, and to some sounded too much like Todd. Next was the "Silver" record with "Sara Smile" on it. The recorded version of this song is much harder edged.
When I was a kid, I asked my mom for a Hall and Oates tape for my birthday. Expecting Private Eyes or H2O or something she bought me War Babies. I was like what the hell is this? But that album proceeded to blow my mind for my entire childhood. My older brother explained to me Todd Rundgren's involvement. To this day, War Babies is one of my favorite albums of all time by any artist. Hall's thoughtful songs with Rundgren's soaring sound shaping. What a great collection of music!
Your post about War Babies - I agreed completely!! Why dont they release that on CD? I have looked and looked as my old recorded tape as really seen its last days! the amount of times played - i agree - one of my all time favourite albums. Great Videos! :)

What kind of keyboard is on top of Daryl's electric piano?

Looks like a Hohner Clavinet (the keyboard on "Superstition").

I totally Agree...Todd has a heavy hand in production, but it was just what they needed...the WAR BABIES album is incredible throughout!

First saw H&O play this on their UK tour in 1976 - still one of the best Todd Rundgren inspired songs.
