hi great guy and performer. . . thanks ibjuezrrie whoever you are young fellow if your still with us , i was just asking that question , i thought it was a old seaside place p burke manchester.
Absolutely great! Anne Murray also sings this -- what a great opportunity for a duet. Great song, great performance and great pleasure to listen. Thanks,
I don't know who this Brendan Grace character is but he's got his geography all screwed up. The Mira is not in Newfoundland. It's on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. Go south out of Sydney along highway 327 about 18 km till you reach Marion Bridge. The Mira River is just south of Marion Bridge.
Show some respect for your audience. At least get the location right and the Key right. Nice try at covering that up! I cannot believe that you actually taped that fiasco and had the nerve to SELL it. I suppose you thought "they're all thick anyway". A little more respect for your audience, Brendan. A word of advice; leave the booze 'til after the show; be a bit more professional.
Where was this filmed. Im trying to find an old tape I had of Brendan Grace. It has quite a few good songs. The version above was on the tape, along with the Dutchman, My Heart is in Ireland and a love song about a mother that dies giving birth. Can anyone help. I got the tape in Scotland in 1994 from a family I meet there.
He skipped a couple of verses... But not a bad version. The song has been covered many times, usually overwrought and overproduced. It's a folk song from an area with fishermen and coalminers. It should be sung by a weathered guy with a guitar, not a choir and a phony electronic orchestra.
Two verses, one starting "And o'er the ashes the stories are told" and one "Out on the Mira, the people are kind". Search for it online, the songwriter is Allister MacGillivray.
This song by Allister MacGillivray refers to the Mira which is the longest river in Nova Scotia. The Marion Bridge is about mid-way between the river's source in Grand Mira and it's discharge point at Mira Gut (from Wickipedia). I am not Canadian, but I love this wonderful song, and have spent many wonderful days in Nova Scotia and Cape Breton island in particular. Nova Scotia should get credit for this one.
This is the original video footage from back in 1974 when I was living in Dublin. I remember it well! I even bought the Album. It was called Grace before and after.
Superb Singer, and his rendition of "You've got a friend is probably the best I've ever heard also. Brilliant!! Hi Brendan, hope you are still with us auld mate. - Brian.
I love Brendan for his comedy but he is a great singer too and had great pleasure in hearing him sing I'll Take you Home again Kathleen in the Forum Waterford and on his videos/dvds.

I love this song. It reminds me so much of home, Rockdale, Cape Breton. No place like home and that song brings so many memories.

While he does a nice job on the song.... the Mira is actually a river that is in the Province of Nova Scotia, on Cape Breton Island to be exact.

A chorus can do it very well, if they don't over do it like you said. But for the most part I agree with you.
