  • You're welcome... anything for you, always:-)

  • Wow!!!

A THIRD version of Walter Huston performing this evergreen!

This is definitely a different recording of the two Brunswick 78s (1938 & 1944).

I wonder if this was an alternate take of the 1944 version and used for the film?

  • I heard this song by Walter Huston when I was a kid and it struck me as being nice, but sad at the time.

Now I am in my vintage years. The song is still as nice, but sadder still.

The invincible, sweet bird of youth has flown away..

  • A masterpiece - life is short, art is long.

  • For what it's worth: I saw the movie "September Affair" when I was a kid in 1950...Joseph Cotten & Joan Fontaine (the lovers) listened to Walter Huston singing "September Song" on record on a Victrola, but Jimmy Lydon playing the part of Johnny Wilson sang it 'live' in a bar in Italy as Fontaine was playing it on a piano with Cotten listening. The song was heard twice in the movie, first by Huston then by Lydon...I preferred Lydon's version.

  • My favorite song.....Thanks for posting....

  • Hmm... very interesting. Nice upload:-X

  • Who is the actress?

  • @jatontherun Hi, the actress was Joan Fontaine, like the song and thanks for the inquiry

  • There is a radio production of KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY with Huston playing his stage role of Peter Stuyvesant, the dictatorial governor of the Dutch colony of Nieuw Amsterdam (now New York). He also sings more of the Kurt Weill score on it. But this was his best job as a singer.

  • What movie is this from?

  • @weikko79 September Affair (1950) Joan Fonteyn and Joseph Cotten

  • @NoMoreParades

Sorry, that should have been Joan Fontaine; confusing her with Margot!

  • great scene from this excellent movie. while it is available on VHS, would be so much better viewing on DVD. interesting that the song was written especially for Huston's gruff voice. thanks for the posting.

  • That just blows me away.

  • Not sure I've heard ot Scars, but Im sure a lot of songs get by me, I really do listen to what I want and what jogs my memory of the past, in this case it WH singing the tune. The film was September affair with Joan fontaine obviously and Joseph Cotten in his reign. Thanks for the interest, it is quite a calming and reminiscent of the times we've past through,

  • Indeed...the memories of latter years flood my mind as I sit in awe at the exquisiteness of this lovely model of musical artwork

  • Hey! Thanks for posting this clip. I had this same 78 they're playing. It's called ''September Song.'' It was on the Brunswick label and on the other side was a wierd song called ''The Scars.'' What movie is this from?
