It's not a "tax"! If you get charged more go protest in front of Cable and Satellite provider's buildings, they're the ones doing it not local televisions who just want to be compensated for their broadcast but I do think Cable and Satellite should have an option to carry the feed or not that is true.
Man do these types of horribly made ads really convince people? It's so theatrical.
I love how people think this is an actual "tax" that needs to be made law by government.
The first (and only) people to call it a tax are Rogers and Bell. Why? Because they know nobody likes taxes, which makes their cause (i.e. lining their pockets) sound all that much more attractive to the layperson.
I thought the CRTC put a temporary ban on these ads but they're still on the air...C'mon, it's Bell & Rogers behind this claim.........If Bell & Rogers claimed the sky was blue and the earth was round I wouldn't believe them.
How can ppl get mad at the local TV stations for wanting the money they deserve from the cable and satellite companies stealing their signals and not even paying for it..They will fork over big bucks to pay for american tv, but refuse to pay the canadian channels...Do you see how bad that is?? Then they say these local tv gets 400 million in profit...but failed to mention that the cable and satellite companies are making 1.2 Billion dollars??? So why cant they pay when there making huge profits
I don't know if you know about ChannelCanada.*com, but they have a forum there and there's this regular poster (named "TVViewer") who seems like the LocalTVMatters mouthpiece. I never agreed w/ his views & it wasn't until I finally went to StopTheTVTax FAQ to realize I even _more_ disagree w/ his views. I go to ChannelCanada and DigitalHome forums to keep up w/ views on this issue.
What I do know is that, I noticed censorship was going on when LocalTvMatters (dot) ca had a Public Message Board.
You heard me correct, most of the people were protesting on LocalTvMatters and than they closed the Public Boards and had one comment supporting TV stations.
I have zero affiliation with any satellite or cable company. What I am is just one of many p####d off Canadians who have had it with "Corporate Welfare" and all at my expense as a taxpayer. I can barely afford T.V. as it is. E-mail the C.R.T.C. and your member of Parliament. ..."OUTRAGEOUS TAX"...
You should take a moment out of your rant to educate yourself. There is NO "tax". While I don't completely agree withe the broadcasters, they do not want any money from the government or taxpayers. They want the cable co's to pay, and of course, the cable co's would pass that cost onto the cable subscriber. The cable co's are trying to scare and anger the public using misinformation. By the sounds of your rant, it looks like it's working.
My contempt for the C.R.T.C. and this current federal government is growing. How dare you try to steal more money out of my pockets like this. This is supposed to be a free market economy. If these private broadcasters can't make it on their own, then it's time to do what every other free market company in Canada has to do in these hard times and that is down size your company or close the darn doors.
Imagine that, my tax dollars from a proposed tax, going to help boost the profits of Private Broadcasters and already funded Public Broadcasting. Is the C.R.T.C. going to bail me or you out if our jobs are put in jeopardy because of this ever declining economy too? Not b####y likely. These Ding Bats only protect themselves. I HAVE HAD IT. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. NO MORE CORPORATE WELFARE! CANADIANS HAVE HAD IT WITH THESE GREEDY CORPORATIONS AND THAT INCLUDES CABLE AND SATELLITE. FIGHT BACK PEOPLE!!
If this tax is allowed to go through, it will set a precedent for future corporate businesses in Canada. By that I mean dont rule out the newspaper industry lobbying the federal government next to tax the internet to give them Corporate Welfare also. If you think that cant happen, just look at what is happening already in Canada with T.V..

Rogers = CityTV
Shaw = GlobalTV
CTV = Bell , oh sorry, they use to own them. :P
CBC = Telus , lol
As you can see the cable companies are either ripping themselves off or ripping you off.

Shaw's logo is not found at the end of the PIF (public information film).
They have a separate campaign that follows the path of that PIF.

Does anyone know anything about the background music that was used for the these ads?
I believe it was played by violin.

Rogers and Bell claim the sky is purple and the earth is shaped like a round stop sign.
Let me see if their right.

What's that actor's name (in the red shirt and pea green coat)? He's cute and speaks well. :-)
PS I support this cause with all my heart!!! The myths/reality section on StopTheTVTax says it all.
