This worked perfect for me :) I thought it was going to back up my entire 500GB hard drive so I went out and bought a 2TB enternal hard drive it only ended up copying like 22Gigs or something lol But it did back up everything all my apps and all my drivers and crap. I'm running a hackintosh so I needed to backup my version of hackintosh that worked so if I mess up updating it or something I would always have something to go back to :) Thumbs up !
Would you use this or Time Machine? My problem is that with Time Machine I have to use the Mac Journaled format and I'd rather use FAT to make it multifunctional with Windows as well
My question is, does SuperDuper split the files since the Mac drive is in Fat 32 format? I'm in the process right now of trying to make a clone/snapshot of my drive.
must i have an external HDD in order to use super doper?
if yes can i use a jump jet that is 14 gb as my mac is 2gb- i wud like to save my applications too, like garage band, docs, pix, itunes.....is this possible?
will this method work for a 640 gig drive i want to install in my macbook however from buying a case it says it only transfers 120gig drives little confused please help
would it be better to back everything on the macbook up by my 500gb hard drive external then do your way with the new 640 gig hard drive (new one) all the stuff frm the old 120 gig drive. please help thanks
is it possible to copy everything BUT the OSX to a new hard drive?
becuase i have a hard drive 640GB from my previous macbook with leopard. Now my macbook pro is snow leopard. I would like to copy everything but the leopard OSX into an external hard drive and then install snow leopard in my 640GB HDD, then restore what i copied into the 640GB which will be running snow leopard. Or do i simply just upgrade my 640GB HDD with leopard to snow leopard?
i have an existing ext HD which has my other files. If I use that and use "erase my book, then copy files from Macintosh HD" (which i believe is the only one i can use for free version), will this completely erase my old files in my ext HD that im going to use? thank you
The APM map will work perfectly fine to boot the computer however if you plan on using BootCamp or install firmware updates later, you must use the GUID partition map.
IMPORTANT: When formatting your new HD with 'disk utility' for the first time before you use super duper, make sure and click the "partition" tab, then select "one partition", and click the "options" button. You want to select GPT (GUID partition map scheme). This partitions the drive as a mac primary boot drive. If you don't do this, Mac will partition the drive with the APM map style.
No it doesn"t, only when you boot from the external hdd and work from there it is slower than normal, but after restoring all files back on your internal hdd it;s just as always..
Just make a clone, after that boot from the external hdd by restarting your holding the option key... Choose the external hdd, let it start up....Open Superduper and click on restore all files....Good luck...
if i make a clone then reboot using the clone will it re-install my apps and bookmarks for safari/chrome?

What happens once the file size reaches 4.7gb?
Thanks for the tutorial.

How big should my external drive be? Is the clone compressed? Can I have a smaller external HD compared to my mac's HD?

If I use the free version, would I be able to copy my cloned HD to my laptop again?
SInce you mentioned the free version doesn't have the other specific options, especially the "Restore - all files" option?
