You're using a real laptop and a netbook. I think it would've been more accurate with the same laptop. Also the wireless card itself makes a difference.
The review testing on the range is irrelevant, you should have used the same type of laptops. Thus different types of laptops has different types of wifi hardware. One laptop might have a better wifi hardware than the other.

I've had 2 Dlink routers...one wireless n and one wireless g and they have both had this problem: you need to restart them for no reason sometimes. One that I had if it lost power then you had to connect it back to the power, unplug it and wait fifteen minutes before you can plug it back in. It's total bull carp. I recommend a netgear router. They are really reliable
Why is everyone such a god damned negative nancy. It's not like they did you a disservice by making this video. If you didn't like it, just move on with your lives instead of incessantly complaining. Just give it a damn thumbs down or something
@StandardofPurity Typical boobs that have nothing better to do than criticize others. Although I see it on pretty much every youtube video, technical ones are the worst because as we all know, every computer tech is better and smarter than all the others.
I'm having problems with my D-Link router it was working for a bit then it just stopped working after awhile ....almost a year it was working then it just stopped. My friend went to some D-Link tech support site and fixed it for me then after like a week my router messed up again and ya it's like not even working anymore the lights go on ....just stays on not blinking....tried to re install it but I dunno nothing is connect or anything.
They are too big to provide you with support down the road, when their crap dosen't work right...Customer Support in non-existent. Go with belkin or netgear for your router...wayyyyyyyyyyy more user friendly and reliable. TrendNet and Dlink are other companies which produce high end reliable hardware.....Good Luck!
@fivesauce No, you don't have to pay extra to use a router. As long as you have broadband, just purchase the router and hookup countless computers at no extra charge.
the distance test is pointless because it was only testing conectivity with router... they should start transferring eg. 1GB file and then go as far they can
Just a moment! Maybe I don't understand something! This router suppose to provide us with 300Mbps bandwidth. In your test you show 11.2MB file tratsfer in 10:19sec. That means approximately 1MBps that means 8 Mbps. So where are 292Mbps?
well i have a G router and i don't know if it would be a waste of money to get an N card. would i get increased range? or would it be the same range as i get with the G card.
I know you guys may be small time but you really didn't prove much with these "tests". You throw B and G around like they're the same (they're not) and your distance test is completely subjective and provides no real data (just a camera shot). And D-Link is "king of routers"? That's a lofty title for a company known for making sub-par networking products. See TomsHardware for how a true technical review is done.
Well the open road test didnt tell me shit cuz i dont live on a long street outside where there are no walls and stories...would of been soo much better if they tested in an actual house where there are obstructions because who the hell lives on a damn street and has a WIFI router?!
@1Lude2NV Yer thats real smart, a straight line test within buildings which reflect and obstruct the true range of the signal. Good thinking there ya goose.
Drag spot? Right, let me know when you can survive smashing into one of those poles. Unless you have a Honda to goes up to 5mpg or 10mpg when Vtec hits. Like that Civic Si they're driving.
Saying something like "He needs to get laid", when you have videos of you playing video games, is only asking to be called jealous. Little nerd. Go outside.
So they didn't measure the distance from the router to each laptop...and...They were using 2 different laptops. Should have used the same laptop maybe. Would have liked to know the distance.
The range test is very bad because you see the power/phone line along the road that is interfering with Wifi radio and boosting its range acting like giant antenna. Albert next time go to really open wilderness without any metallic object nearby and do the range that way we will know the truth!!!
In a home you have many more objects that cause interference: walls, microwave ovens, tv's, radios, cell phones, power and telephone lines. Goes on and on.
oh come on, at least do a correct test. at the end he states that this shows that d link are the king... well how can you say this when all you have tested d link stuff and no others... come on get with it
it is slower..but..it's ok. It's not slower by a lot unless you're comparing wtih fiber optic or w.e If you have a 30mb connection the labtop will receive about the same or not too much off.
LAN parties, voice chatting, multitasking your internet, g is designed to have one or two programs using the connection, think of b as a small pipe, g as a medium pipe, and n as a very large pipe.
Hehehe, i want to make fun of albert so bad for that shitty little burn out but hes cool cuz he knows his shit about computers and that's what hes here for ... not cars. But still... that was pathetic!
Great test. The G wireless did better than I thought it would but then again it was a straight line without obstruction like walls or trees. I wonder if setting the router up on a 6 foot pole would have made much difference in distance? Pretty good distance considering the router sat on the ground.
