I am a Canadian ,I have been in a lot of cities of China ,Be honest with you ,Chinese people are so friendly ...THIS country isdeveloping quickly since reform and opening-up。
The united states government is trying to split china, just like RUSSIA...
is China still communism? I do not think so. I think they seems just like Capitalism. The big factory own the small factory's shares. Free trading... About the human right, They still need America to help with it lol. It is not easy for them to do it in one day, Cuz they got dam huge population.
WTF? Who gave the US government the right to nanny-sit other countries, and if those countries don't obey, they'll get whipped like Iraq and Afghanistan?
I beg your pardon but you're over-estimating the American power a bit aren't you?
New China leaders promise to keep democracy for China in the future. I think they have to bring more American Lawers to teach them how to complete a better admenments. I'm sure America and China will keep the world become peace. God bless you all!!!!
China will become another America. I'm personaly sense that cuz They got 2 similar presidents. MAO and George Washington. they both fight for their nation people, they follow their nation people's need for war!!!!
i liked the shooting of tibetan rebels very much, in fact they need to do it a lot more. the evictions helped tightening the security, which worked. and the corruptions are being controlled, the government responded to the disaster with topnotch efficiency and concern, the PLA saved more than thousands that otherwise would have died.
The same applies to any right. Take Algeria vs France, Algeria freed itself from France by force. Does that mean force and terrorism are good for that sake? Should Palaestinians be allowed to riot against Israel at will? If not, what gives Tibetians the right to riot and pillage?
@DynamicZer0 YOU forget that there are more than 80,000 protest, lot of them violent, in CHINA every YEAR. Dont talk about RIGHTS. We Tibetans have the full right to oppose Chinese occupation anyway we like. BUT we have been trying for decades to negotiate with PRC peacefully. CHINA never had the RIGHT to Occupy TIBET. All the problems start from there.
If you want to judge people, you can't just limit it to a group. Otherwise, its hypocrisy. If you do draw a line, you'll always find a fair deal of the "good" guys on the other side, thus, making the line nil. that is why "Rights", including "Human Rights" is defined as "dependant on time, political and social surrounding" (Max Fritsche "Human Rights"). Thats why America can torture people and have the death sentence.
Also, unlike the colonial powers, China didn't just "suddenly invade" Tibet in 1950, China shares a mutual past with Tibet, the Dalai Lama is cultural evidence of this relation. If China has no right to stay in Tibet despite years of developement, The "Americans" can start giving their Country back to the natives - or to China, because Inkas and Mayas etc. descended from there. Or why not have an African Dictatorship rule the World? Mankind started there after all.
@DynamicZer0 This is the question of Tibet. So lets just focus on that for a moment. You say the Dalai Lama is a cultural evidence of China's relation with Tibet. Its not true. The Dalai Lamas are the result of a reformed Buddhist sect known as the Gelugpas founded by Tsonkhapa, who is the 1st Dalai Lama's teacher as well. The Manchus, rulers of China at the time, wanted Tibet's help in pacifying the Dzungar Mongols who were harassing China and who happened to be followers of Tibetan Buddhism.
China has its faults, but you have to be really, really ignorant, arrogant and xenophobic about the country to judge it by "current human rights situation".
xenophobia is defined as an irrational fear of a race or people. if you can see a people committing human rights abuses upon themselves, like large-scale ethnic cleansing, organ harvesting etc, how is the association irrational?
A & B appear together more often than not. therefore A & B may have a causal relationship. how is that irrational? (A = china, B = human rights abuse)
But to you its not "irrational" because your imagination spun up a bunch of reasons for it. You also think the use of course expressions is a viable way to confirm something and on the ground of of debating put the existance of the argued factors, being free speech and the like as absolute basis, replace that with "china's opinion" = lol
Correlation is also not equal to casuation, otherwise the reduction of pirates would have caused the Ozone lair to lessen.
Sure, ideological questions like preserving nature, cute animals and the cure-it-all democracy is important. But you have to be rich enough to care about it.
"if developing countries are prematurely democratised, the result is a populism which ends in economic catastrophe and political despotism."
The three formerly third world countries that are the most successful economically (Taiwan, South Korea and Chile) got their democracy only after a period of AUTHORITARIAN rule
This fact contradicts the thesis that democracy is the motor of developement.
Furthermore, China had a better leap into industry than any other country with questionable measures such as child birth control, all under its pseudo authoritarian pseudo capitalist system, it rebuilt itself from a state where it was so beaten down that powerful "western" countries were starting to share its parts as their colonies - it found its own way out.
oh, you forgot that the largest democracy in the world IS a developing nation -- india!
they're doing pretty well. they have a whole fucking mini-planet going on with an vibrant mix of races, 17 *different* languages, a host of religions, tribes, who somehow manage to live and work together without a dictator to oversee them. and the largest middle-class with a booming economy and excellent education. so, its possible.
WRONG! India was previously boosted up as english colony easing its developement and its independence lead to terrorism, insurgencies, religious violence and the revert to casteism isn't exactly the peak of "human rights" either.
The British exploited India chiefly by imposing unrealistic land taxes, thus confiscating massive quantities of land from their owners. Then they used that land to plant cash crops like saffron and bound people through debt as slaves to work on the land. The British traded the saffron while no food was produced resulting in waves of famine that killed hundreds of millions and ruining all local economies. Why do you think Indians fought for independence? Get an education.
@geodesicks thats true...also the British had huge Opium plantations in India...they sold the opium to ..you guessed right...China! destroying both India and China.
Oh really, do you really know the history of India? Indias are divided into many classes, and each classes are given different rights, with those low down the class ladder BARELY enjoying any human rights, and don't say I'm making all this up, I was told by one of my best Indian friends that Indian girls don't even have the right to choose who to marry, even in the 21st century. India's democractic? Yah right.
Well, you ARE making it up. I lived in India for the first 20 years of my life. It does have the remnants of a feudal system, but its fast disappearing. It is incorrect to say Indian girls don't have the right to choose who to marry, because if that were true, I wouldn't exist.
But that has little to do with democracy because democracy means a government that is elected and driven by the people. Free press and speech are necessary for it. China can boast of neither.
Before 1950 Tibet was not a spiritual utopia but a country of harsh feudalism, poverty (life expectancy was barely 30), corruption and civil wars. The last, between two monastic factions in 1948. Why did that end? The Chinese came and ended the dictature.
The Chinese also invested heavily in Tibetan economic development, as well as infrastructure, education and healthcare.
"The Chinese also invested heavily in Tibetan economic development, as well as infrastructure, education and healthcare."
Tibet never asked for it. There was a communist take-over.
And if your argument of investing in an annexed people is anything to go by, the British, French, Spanish and Portugese should've never left their colonies where they brought their "aquaduct".
As if they all left willingly, though there are some "volunteered" exits after reaping the profits many colonies had to chase out the occupation like Algeria or make use of the the two retarded "sides" bickering. The greatest "wave" of setting colonies free was enforced by the USA... which refused to give off Cuba itself.
No, in contrary! China officially consists of 56 Ethnics, with one dominant and 55 minorities. The minorities are treated with by far more freedom than in most "cultural further developed Western Countries", in addition to exemption from the 1-child policy. In fact, for a country that has heavily patriarchistic roots, it even allows a pseudo-matriarchistic ethnic to proceed in practicing its culture.
Tibetians and Xin Jiang. The xin Jiang are new to you? Then you are probably a bandwagonjumper who didn't think past listening to the Dalai Lama and should not participate in any future china debates. The Xin Jiang seperatist movement consists mainly of muslimic fundamentalists (translation: they are almost like taliban), while the Tibetians are mainly those who follow the clerical "upper class's" strive for freedom.
There is no exact event or reason other than the Dalai Lama wishing for it. As mentioned, China allows ethnic minorities to exist autonomously, Tibet has unsuccessfully attempted to declare itself free in the 1950s, the rest of the World (not just China) didn't approve, the recent protests claim that Tibet should have been free since then, although it didn't happen.
Only in a symbolic manner, he fled out of China with a couple of his friends. Pardon *rich* friends who could afford fleeing and left the rest behind. The chinese then built up the Tibetian society from the remains, today, hard working chinese and tibetians alike coexist in Tibet. The Dalai Lama disagrees with China in historic details (read on wikipedia, I'm not going to wright it here, too much).
Fact: Wait, if the Dalai Lama fled, why is he still fussing over Tibet?
Because it is his birthplace, and will be the birthplace of the next Lama according to a Tibetian tradition. However, due to the vagueness of the tradition, there were often multiple claims of who should be the true Lama. Thus, the chinese emperors decided that all claims should be revised by the chinese government to pick the true one. One of the Lama generations is a point of disagreement among tibetians and chinese.
The current Lama and some Tibetians disagrees on the identity of one of the former Lamas. Ironically, that would make him not the real Lama as well, as he was passed form the Generation he declares fake.
Fact: China points at the Dalai Lama as the root of the riots, thats laughable as he's a peaceful man... or is he?
Of course he is, the Dalai Lama doesn't do anything himself, and he's not evil. But the Chinese aversion is not without reason: If a celeb wears fur, the masses will blame that celeb although he/she didn't exacly go texas chainsaw massacre on cute furry animals, but due to the symbol status they still get blamed. Same with the Dalai Lama and the riots, though he is against force.
Fact: Up to now I was just hearing things about how chinese massacre the monks and try to hide it from public media, is that all whats happening?
Think again: It sounds more outrageous that way and the media can get more attention by filtering the information to make it sound like that. But do you seriously think the government is sending soldiers away from home up the himalayas to shoot at monks? Seriously, if I were one of those soldiers, I'd be pissed.
Fact: But if thats not the whole picture, whats happening?
The usual, there are retards on both sides, Chinese Soldiers who overreact and Tibetian extremists causing terror. Tibet's population isn't made of 100% monks. The people's Liberation Army has a strong presence due to China's army system, "the people's army". Every citizen can be mobilized anytime, a part of the stationed forces in Tibet includes Tibetians who are simply preserving order for their homes.
Fact: What exactly is China expecting from keeping Tibet?
Show me a Country that gives away its territory freely and I'll show you what a retarded Country is. The USA wasn't exactly bidding Cuba a peaceful farewell, although they were all about Europe setting free its colonies (but America insisted on keeping its own colonies). In addition to that, many Chinese citizens have moved to Tibet by now, a free Tibet would mean them losing their homes.
Fact: But why won't these Chinese just live under Tibetian rule when Tibet is free?
Because Tibetian rule consists of monks being the upper class and the peasants doing all the work. Of course, China's communist ideals led to this system being broken sort of forcing the monks actually having to work for a living (bad china! bad bad china!).
Due to China's nature of letting ethnic minorities being quite autonomous, the chinese who live there already have to cope with certain Tibetian habits of putting religion over everything, so in a way they are already doing all the work now and keeping the society going. They fear a return to the old system would make them the working class/workers of the clerical upper class.
Fact: So is it better for Tibet to stay under chinese rule?
Now thats beyond me. I can't tell what the Tibetians will exactly do if they were free, wether they will be more modern as they learned from China or revert to their old system. But if Tibet were to accept unity and peaceful coexistance with China, they would stay autonomous. The chinese there would probably diminish the culture over time making Tibet more and more "civilised" and capable of economy
at the cost of Tibetian traditions, but then again, when ethnic minorities are about to lose their traditions, the chinese government will once again pull the breaks and put their culture under its protection like it does with the other 54 ethnic minorities. If Tibet accepts Chinese rule peacefully, they would lose claims of details in History in exchange for developement without losing their culture - and their current Lama. =P
You could say China "robbed" Tibet, but they robbed it as much as USA robbed the Native Americans (what you call Indians), Chinese had official rule over Tibet since the 13th Century.
Yes and no. Religion is officially free, as a communist state couldn't care less about religion. Religions are banned if they are believed dangerous. What, you thought they do it for fun? More importantly, chinese do not opress the religion of tibetians. Buddhism is one of the official chinese people's religions, how the heck should China try to ban that?
Mao is liar; Communist Chinese are more lying than their death leader. You can see that less people on earth is trying to protect China from being hated. Free the TIBET now! Bastard Chinese! You : robbers in Tibet!
1. much of the fireworks broadcast to the world were 3D animations and pre-recorded photoshop-ed footage of rehearsals.
2. even more shocking, the little kid was lip-syncing. because the actual kid who sang the song was considered by the politburo "not cute enough".
if a country is willing to judge little kids like that in order to put up some "make-up" for the rest of the world, i'm sorry, no one should be impressed.
1. not true at all. u should read the news from start to finish next time. reports are that the fake ones are the one that look like footprints and during the live broadcast the NBC commentator did said it is animated.
do your research before you say anything. 1st, china didn't try to hide the truth, it's only done as to prepare for the bad weather.
Secondly, it's just like in any show, like any show on earth there will be ppl working behind the stage, and all of those are credited, so what was the problem here? I think it's you been too bitter and soar
yeah, i know china's trying to present its "cutest" side to the world. but really? by judging on a kid's alleged "cuteness" over her ability to sing? i'm sorry, but the rest of the world has progressed ethically beyond such wannabe-ness at the cost of judging children. it exposes a fundamental darkness of heart in china. i'm sorry. i had to say it.
This scandal doesn't make quite sense to me. I mean, if they really want to show the best face to the world, why not have someone lip-sync for Liu Huan, too? In my own perspective, he is a very unpleasant looking man. Anyway, I heard Yang Peiyi going to play parts at the ending ceremony, happy ending for everyone.
maybe because they want to project themselves as morally equivalent to western society and its ideals?
but with systematic ethnic cleansing, undercover arms dealing with darfur to promote genocide in exchange for oil, a notorious record on human rights, labor and death camps for harmless spiritually inclined people, and no free press, uncensored internet or democracy to even begin to set things right, they're FAR, *FAR* from being morally equivalent to the west. long way to go...
Yes, they are way behind super awesome nations like the US who directly do genocides themselves in exchange for oil, deal with saudi arabia, have guantanamo bay, death sentence, torture, biased press that declares itself free but filters the information and has democracy for exactly 2 parties.
Except China does it for economical development while the US does it for people to pimp their ride.
Ignorant masses: pointing the finger at others to ignore own faults since the witchhunt and beyond!
first of all, pointing at someone else's mistakes doesn't vindicate yours.
secondly, there is free press and internet in america which though not perfect, are unheard of in china. so, it has the mechanism of questioning itself that is fundamentally absent in china.
thirdly, where did you see ethnic cleansing in recent american history?
i think the chinese people will find it *extremely* difficult to earn their democracy eventually. that's where the arc of justice will bend.
Second, though Chinese press and internet are officially not free, the Chinese do not really lack information. Supposedly banned games are played in netcafes on an everyday basis. Your imagination that questioning one self is absent in China is evidence that you don't really know how things work there.
If you actually can call what China is doing "ethnic cleansing", then the super awesome crusade against anything wearing a turban in recent American History counts as well.
And the Chinese already vote for their government, except the president isn't nearly as powerful as in most countries. What they have, its not dictatorship, its not democracy anf its not communism or socialism either. Its simply working.
They are more likely to learn justice their own way. With 1/4 of mankind as population, a democratic system which simply ignores the minority could be nearly as devastating as things are nowadays.
But enough of my words, to quote some sino-experts commenting on the global uproar against China:
"Yeah, China has isses with Human Rights, but I wonder why Amnesty International is suddenly getting so public about it[...]the overall situation, though I think it will drop a bit during the olymics, has improved a lot, for Chinese standards at least and will according to AI itself[...]intellectuals Worldwide are puzzled by the sudden blaming, there are even complaints about air pollution!"
Another issue, "western" country presidents are often blamed for everything, so why isn't the Chinese President specifically getting blamed? Another sino-expert on it (I think he was David Shambaugh:
"Hu is silent, but skilled. It was to be expected that he would have trouble and fight over power, but he didn't[...]the KP is changing, people oversee it because there are more "interesting" things going on, in 2005-2005 all 72 million KP members were obligued
to take a 18 Month investigation focussed on criticism and self-criticism, 50000 were removed from the party while the newly hired are businessmen, intellectuals and technocrats, they want a more social oriented cadre. The party isn't as sklerotic or dogmatic as before, and by far not as much as people imagine it nowadays.[...]Hu's weakness would be his silence on the outside, he doesn't seem to have ideas for China's international role."
oh yeah, can you question the government and mock it in public? can you make fun of hu on national tv like they do on comedy central on a daily basis? sorry, playing banned video games in netcafes doesn't really cut it for free press or free speech. that was a ridiculous fucking argument... they play banned computer games in the dark, of course they have free press!
Lol, you actually think joking about things is not allowed? There is censorship and all but its not the way you imagine it, the government does get mocked in any comedy show, the actual questionable censorship is in the political level. Though some idiots (mostly Americans) keep thinking it means you get arrested for saying something wrong, heck one of my teachers thought free speech doesn't exist outside of America. Besides, what gives YOU the right to demand it from China? Are you Chinese?
The right way to look china is compare its before and now. We were humble than any country in the world befoer. Now, we are third largest economic entity. The difference, you tell me!!
selling arms to sudan to support the genocide in darfur?
being a police state where people are told how to behave, to worship and think? a country where international media and even the wikipedia is blocked by the government? a country that is not yet a democracy and probably cannot afford to be one? a country that has state-sponsored terrorism in tibet making many tibetans flee to countries like india?
you are in denial. Bias and prejudice. Didn't the American supplied arms to the Taliban and Saddam before? And the selling of arms to any country is just a trade! It's not like buy this to kill!! Please open your mind. Be respectful and be intelligent!!
and how is pointing to other people's shortcomings somehow vindicating one's self or country?
if i say the truth about china being a police state that polices even the internet, the media, and replaces a singing kid with a "better looking" kid because she wasn't *cute enough* to present to the world, how is that disrespectful? its the *truth*. saying the truth is never disrespectful.
when the chinese politburo decides that the girl who was actually singing was *not cute enough* and must be replaced by a "cuter" kid lip-syncing?
your country wears make-up before it presents itself to the rest of the world and will stoop to ANY level for it, and you say *i* am in denial?
i'm sorry, but the chinese people living in a police state watching the chasm between their reality and the glorious (albeit photoshop-ed) spectacle presented to the world are in denial.
don't understand why you making such a big deal of it. ultimately it's china trying to put up the best show to the world. You know that in barcelona olympics, the arrow never made it to the torch tower, but it lights itself up.
get an education. and read a newspaper once in a while. before getting blown away by spectacular imagery.
i'm not anti-chinese. i'm just appalled by the chinese government and their low-life mentality as exposed by this girl swap. they have a whole govt sanctioned industry of killing & harvesting organs from innocent people. of ethnic cleansing. of disallowing free press. and suppressing all attempts at democracy.
oh, i forgot, you'd rather see the fireworks and choreography!
This video is sponsored by Haier. Do you think it would contain anything different from what the Chinese govt would want you to think? It's a piece of propaganda using 2 white guys.
Yeah like the communist bastard that attacks the parents of one of the u.s volleyball team stabbing the father to death and critically wounding the mother and leaping to his death.your stupid fucks trying to portray these scum as good?
fiery, question. Did you call the guy who killed all those students at Virginia Tech a capitalistic bastard? I'm not saying being a communist is a good thing. I'm just asking how is that relavent?
You did a great job in fulfilling your Mission,Guys!!!Very informative, yet, with a twist of humor and casualness many really enjoyed viewing china in a perspective u pulled out successfully!!!!CONGARATULATIONS and my hats-off to You two!!
100% support for China....go China go! All you anti-China jealous pathetic IRRELEVANT COCKSUCKER clowns out there can eat China's poopoo and drink china's peepee and die....ahahahaaaaaaaaaaa
do you really care about the human right of average Chinese in China? or simply finding an excuse to attack average Chinese people "communist Chinese" (fyi average Chinese do not associate them with communism any more)
seems like alot of people like to argue who the best.or who the worse.
in the east they have philosophy said: when you point to some one. just one of your finger point to that person, the othe one go to somewhere else, but 3 finger going to your self.
After all the insult you white pigs have done to us? Friendly? I fucking don't think so!!! You come over, we kick you out, after the olympic game of course. I strongly recommend that all Chinese should return home after they finish their schools. The western world is not the right place for us. We don't want to hang out with white pigs and we don't welcome them living in China.
Ooh you're manchu?? I read a book about dowager empress Cixi, and since then I had become so interested in Manchu's. And also by Baoshu, a personage in the book 'An ocean apart, a world away'.
I don't know, actually. There are so many different stories about her, if you know what I mean. The book that I read was very positive about her, the writer wrote it to prove that she wasn't that evil. After reading the book, I went on the internet to look for more information about her, and almost every site said that she was evil and killed people to gain power. So I really don't know what to believe. What do you think, then?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah kick us out AFTER we win all those medals at the games.lmao Who wants to live in that s*hithole place they call China anyways. Its overcrowded, polluted, stink, unfriendly, and under communist rule.
And its equally funny that those very students you talk about end up staying in the US. I know one personally whom came here from Taiwan for schooling and never left since. Been here for 10 years already and loves it.
America is a multi ethnic society.......way more multi ethnic than China. So I would hope you do some research before you name call America. Its more than white people I tell you that much.
multi-ethnic yet minorities face racism, glass ceiling, discrimination and are often consider non-american. China is more multi than you ever know. China consist of 56 ethnic groups, yet within those 56 ethnic groups are hundred and hundred of subgroups, languages, and cultures. They are allow to speak their languages, follow their traditions and be proud of who they are. they are not known as minorities, they are known as people of zhongguo, or people of China.
Yet when its done in comparison to the US.then its a no-brainer that America tops the list against China.
You'll find racism everywhere multiculturalism occurs. To imply like it doesn't happen in China is a complete farce.
I live in Hawaii..being one of the most multi cultural places per capita in the world..and though we may not be perfect...its a true example of how people of many nationalities can come together on a bunch of islands in the middle of the sea and live in peace and harmony.
I feel like crying because Im soo fascinated by China and I never heard about volunteering there during the olympics. I have missed an oppurtunity of a lifetime.
There is only little more than a month before the opening of the Beijing Olympics. There is still no mention of it on any of the American TV stations or media. The US is doing everything to downplay the spirit of the Beijing Olympics because they are so jealous about rising China and Olympics 2008 is just a good opportunity for the world to witness the development and modernization of a new China. It doesn't matter but this is only cheating on the AMerican people who do not travel.
Are you watching the same stations I am watching because I see commercials all the time talking about the olympics in China. The US doesn't need to downplay anything in regards to China. It still is the only super power in the world and China still has a whole lot more to do to catch up. They are but slowly. The US isn't threatened by China. Believe me.
I'd like to now what channels do you watch? I just don't want to missed the events during the Olympics or the boring programs that only show Americans winning events. It was the same thing for Olympic in Seoul, South Korea. What the US talked about was not about how the Koreans preparing for the Olympics, instead, they just talk about Koreans eating dogs and stuff like that so people remember not the glory of the Korean people but all negative things.
Of course...... its AMERICAN news channels displaying the successes of our AMERICAN TEAMS!!! What else did you expect? And you act like it doesn't happen all over the world....but fact is it does. And why would American be concerned about how Koreans prepare for the olympics? How does that give instrest to the people? And its sad that they talked about Koreans eating dogs, but you try to characterize a WHOLE group because of the actions of a few.
pollution??? pollution in beijing is only what cnn and bbc shows... beijing is really not very polluted but cnn and bbc makes it looks like i was there for 1 month ago and i didnt see one day where air were polluted..
Hey, we totally hear what you're saying. I agree. In fact our current administration is blowin' it. We can all point fingers and say what's wrong...what is the peaceful solution?
Who would be an Olympics sponsor? Just when memories of the 1980s boycotts were receding, the most successful director in movie history announces that he is quitting in protest at China's policy on Darfur.
Outrageous! China is not only silent it own citizen but also bullying others nations to ban world athletes from freedom of speak.
How not true. And Spieldberg is nothing than an ORDINARY human being with a lying mouth.
Please do me a fucking favor. Don't watch olympic, just go home and put to fuck yourself. Or if you like you can continue spread lies and enjoy American killing ppl worldwide using whatever lies they can think of.
LMAO stfu...the US is bullying around the world especially in Iraq and Afganistan, and if the US was to host the olympic u cowards would not say a thing about boycotts...how pathetic of u sorryass, yeah, and dont u worry, the olympic would go on despite u'r,Mr.Nobody so called protest...LOL
2millions iraqis,1million afganistanies, and 3980 US soldiers died just for the US's world dictatorship on Oil....u really care about humanity and rightousness huh?? how fake are u man,why dont u protest against the US??thats right, cuz u aint got no balls to do so,fearing that CIA might take u and go Waterboarding sometimes huh?? sounds fun!
To whom that Spieldgerg is most successful director? May be to you or Americans. To the rest of the world, he is not and far from it. Not a big deal that he is not going to the Olympics. He has the right to choose. But you are accusing China just BS and baseless. China does not ban athletes from freedom of speach, China does everything according to the regulations and ruls of the Olympics Committees. You are getting too much distorted information from US media.
Yeah blame the US media for the stuff China is doing. Its still under a communist regime so all of the lack of freedoms is because of communism. You might not agree with it but its all there for the people to see. You don't need to see the US media to know China keeps many things under wraps. They want to show a good face to the world. I don't blame um though.
Who cares if China is communist or capitalist In fact, China has become more and more like capitalist which is what America is.The gap between rich and poor is getting bigger. People are more greedy and selfish. Social welfare is getting less and less for the poor. Business over People's rights. If you have more money then you have more freedom and rights. No wonder more and more people going back to China to live and work because they feel there is similarity with US now.May be you dont know.
Oh yeah China has become more capitalistic but with a communist bent. I'm part Chinese btw, and its funny you mention that Chinese are going back to China but tend to forget that many Chinese also want to come to America because it is more free. We can debate whether its is or not, but facts show it to be true. China is trying to tighten up its image and throw on a positive face for the world.
Yes, many Chinese want to come to the America because they don't know better. Most of them have not been to US so they don't have life experience in US. They have high expectation about this is so called 'free world' and 'America Dream'. No society or system is perfect so why China has to be totally like us in the US. They can have their own system according to their own culture, tradition and realistic approch. Something works in one place does not necessarily works at another place.
I find it funny that because I mention that the Chinese come to America in droves....YOU write that its because they don't know better. Obviously I'm typing to someone that already as a biased in regards to the America and your posts prove it. Millions around the world hear about the "free world" and the "American Dream" because it can happen. You work hard and stive, you can get there. People envy America because they offer so much. And btw, America is still a young country.
I am a Canadian ,I have been in a lot of cities of China ,Be honest with you ,Chinese people are so friendly ...THIS country isdeveloping quickly since reform and opening-up。

The same applies to any right. Take Algeria vs France, Algeria freed itself from France by force. Does that mean force and terrorism are good for that sake? Should Palaestinians be allowed to riot against Israel at will? If not, what gives Tibetians the right to riot and pillage?
DynamicZer0 3 years ago 2
@DynamicZer0 YOU forget that there are more than 80,000 protest, lot of them violent, in CHINA every YEAR. Dont talk about RIGHTS. We Tibetans have the full right to oppose Chinese occupation anyway we like. BUT we have been trying for decades to negotiate with PRC peacefully. CHINA never had the RIGHT to Occupy TIBET. All the problems start from there.
tcl83 10 months ago
If you want to judge people, you can't just limit it to a group. Otherwise, its hypocrisy. If you do draw a line, you'll always find a fair deal of the "good" guys on the other side, thus, making the line nil. that is why "Rights", including "Human Rights" is defined as "dependant on time, political and social surrounding" (Max Fritsche "Human Rights"). Thats why America can torture people and have the death sentence.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Also, unlike the colonial powers, China didn't just "suddenly invade" Tibet in 1950, China shares a mutual past with Tibet, the Dalai Lama is cultural evidence of this relation. If China has no right to stay in Tibet despite years of developement, The "Americans" can start giving their Country back to the natives - or to China, because Inkas and Mayas etc. descended from there. Or why not have an African Dictatorship rule the World? Mankind started there after all.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago 4
You seem to have no idea of the communist occupation of Tibet where monks were fired at inside the Potala.
geodesicks 3 years ago
@DynamicZer0 This is the question of Tibet. So lets just focus on that for a moment. You say the Dalai Lama is a cultural evidence of China's relation with Tibet. Its not true. The Dalai Lamas are the result of a reformed Buddhist sect known as the Gelugpas founded by Tsonkhapa, who is the 1st Dalai Lama's teacher as well. The Manchus, rulers of China at the time, wanted Tibet's help in pacifying the Dzungar Mongols who were harassing China and who happened to be followers of Tibetan Buddhism.
tcl83 10 months ago
China has its faults, but you have to be really, really ignorant, arrogant and xenophobic about the country to judge it by "current human rights situation".
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
xenophobia is defined as an irrational fear of a race or people. if you can see a people committing human rights abuses upon themselves, like large-scale ethnic cleansing, organ harvesting etc, how is the association irrational?
A & B appear together more often than not. therefore A & B may have a causal relationship. how is that irrational? (A = china, B = human rights abuse)
geodesicks 3 years ago
How about A = you, B = china?
But to you its not "irrational" because your imagination spun up a bunch of reasons for it. You also think the use of course expressions is a viable way to confirm something and on the ground of of debating put the existance of the argued factors, being free speech and the like as absolute basis, replace that with "china's opinion" = lol
Correlation is also not equal to casuation, otherwise the reduction of pirates would have caused the Ozone lair to lessen.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Sure, ideological questions like preserving nature, cute animals and the cure-it-all democracy is important. But you have to be rich enough to care about it.
"if developing countries are prematurely democratised, the result is a populism which ends in economic catastrophe and political despotism."
The three formerly third world countries that are the most successful economically (Taiwan, South Korea and Chile) got their democracy only after a period of AUTHORITARIAN rule
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
This fact contradicts the thesis that democracy is the motor of developement.
Furthermore, China had a better leap into industry than any other country with questionable measures such as child birth control, all under its pseudo authoritarian pseudo capitalist system, it rebuilt itself from a state where it was so beaten down that powerful "western" countries were starting to share its parts as their colonies - it found its own way out.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
oh, you forgot that the largest democracy in the world IS a developing nation -- india!
they're doing pretty well. they have a whole fucking mini-planet going on with an vibrant mix of races, 17 *different* languages, a host of religions, tribes, who somehow manage to live and work together without a dictator to oversee them. and the largest middle-class with a booming economy and excellent education. so, its possible.
geodesicks 3 years ago
WRONG! India was previously boosted up as english colony easing its developement and its independence lead to terrorism, insurgencies, religious violence and the revert to casteism isn't exactly the peak of "human rights" either.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
The British exploited India chiefly by imposing unrealistic land taxes, thus confiscating massive quantities of land from their owners. Then they used that land to plant cash crops like saffron and bound people through debt as slaves to work on the land. The British traded the saffron while no food was produced resulting in waves of famine that killed hundreds of millions and ruining all local economies. Why do you think Indians fought for independence? Get an education.
geodesicks 3 years ago 6
@geodesicks thats true...also the British had huge Opium plantations in India...they sold the opium to ..you guessed right...China! destroying both India and China.
tcl83 10 months ago
Oh really, do you really know the history of India? Indias are divided into many classes, and each classes are given different rights, with those low down the class ladder BARELY enjoying any human rights, and don't say I'm making all this up, I was told by one of my best Indian friends that Indian girls don't even have the right to choose who to marry, even in the 21st century. India's democractic? Yah right.
ltangelic 3 years ago
Well, you ARE making it up. I lived in India for the first 20 years of my life. It does have the remnants of a feudal system, but its fast disappearing. It is incorrect to say Indian girls don't have the right to choose who to marry, because if that were true, I wouldn't exist.
But that has little to do with democracy because democracy means a government that is elected and driven by the people. Free press and speech are necessary for it. China can boast of neither.
geodesicks 3 years ago
Before 1950 Tibet was not a spiritual utopia but a country of harsh feudalism, poverty (life expectancy was barely 30), corruption and civil wars. The last, between two monastic factions in 1948. Why did that end? The Chinese came and ended the dictature.
The Chinese also invested heavily in Tibetan economic development, as well as infrastructure, education and healthcare.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
"The Chinese also invested heavily in Tibetan economic development, as well as infrastructure, education and healthcare."
Tibet never asked for it. There was a communist take-over.
And if your argument of investing in an annexed people is anything to go by, the British, French, Spanish and Portugese should've never left their colonies where they brought their "aquaduct".
geodesicks 3 years ago
As if they all left willingly, though there are some "volunteered" exits after reaping the profits many colonies had to chase out the occupation like Algeria or make use of the the two retarded "sides" bickering. The greatest "wave" of setting colonies free was enforced by the USA... which refused to give off Cuba itself.

Fact: does China oppress ethnic minorities?
No, in contrary! China officially consists of 56 Ethnics, with one dominant and 55 minorities. The minorities are treated with by far more freedom than in most "cultural further developed Western Countries", in addition to exemption from the 1-child policy. In fact, for a country that has heavily patriarchistic roots, it even allows a pseudo-matriarchistic ethnic to proceed in practicing its culture.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: Which of the 55 ethnics do not like China?
Tibetians and Xin Jiang. The xin Jiang are new to you? Then you are probably a bandwagonjumper who didn't think past listening to the Dalai Lama and should not participate in any future china debates. The Xin Jiang seperatist movement consists mainly of muslimic fundamentalists (translation: they are almost like taliban), while the Tibetians are mainly those who follow the clerical "upper class's" strive for freedom.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: Why do Tibetians want freedom?
There is no exact event or reason other than the Dalai Lama wishing for it. As mentioned, China allows ethnic minorities to exist autonomously, Tibet has unsuccessfully attempted to declare itself free in the 1950s, the rest of the World (not just China) didn't approve, the recent protests claim that Tibet should have been free since then, although it didn't happen.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: How is the Dalai Lama involved?
Only in a symbolic manner, he fled out of China with a couple of his friends. Pardon *rich* friends who could afford fleeing and left the rest behind. The chinese then built up the Tibetian society from the remains, today, hard working chinese and tibetians alike coexist in Tibet. The Dalai Lama disagrees with China in historic details (read on wikipedia, I'm not going to wright it here, too much).
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: Wait, if the Dalai Lama fled, why is he still fussing over Tibet?
Because it is his birthplace, and will be the birthplace of the next Lama according to a Tibetian tradition. However, due to the vagueness of the tradition, there were often multiple claims of who should be the true Lama. Thus, the chinese emperors decided that all claims should be revised by the chinese government to pick the true one. One of the Lama generations is a point of disagreement among tibetians and chinese.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
The current Lama and some Tibetians disagrees on the identity of one of the former Lamas. Ironically, that would make him not the real Lama as well, as he was passed form the Generation he declares fake.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: China points at the Dalai Lama as the root of the riots, thats laughable as he's a peaceful man... or is he?
Of course he is, the Dalai Lama doesn't do anything himself, and he's not evil. But the Chinese aversion is not without reason: If a celeb wears fur, the masses will blame that celeb although he/she didn't exacly go texas chainsaw massacre on cute furry animals, but due to the symbol status they still get blamed. Same with the Dalai Lama and the riots, though he is against force.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: Up to now I was just hearing things about how chinese massacre the monks and try to hide it from public media, is that all whats happening?
Think again: It sounds more outrageous that way and the media can get more attention by filtering the information to make it sound like that. But do you seriously think the government is sending soldiers away from home up the himalayas to shoot at monks? Seriously, if I were one of those soldiers, I'd be pissed.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: But if thats not the whole picture, whats happening?
The usual, there are retards on both sides, Chinese Soldiers who overreact and Tibetian extremists causing terror. Tibet's population isn't made of 100% monks. The people's Liberation Army has a strong presence due to China's army system, "the people's army". Every citizen can be mobilized anytime, a part of the stationed forces in Tibet includes Tibetians who are simply preserving order for their homes.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: What exactly is China expecting from keeping Tibet?
Show me a Country that gives away its territory freely and I'll show you what a retarded Country is. The USA wasn't exactly bidding Cuba a peaceful farewell, although they were all about Europe setting free its colonies (but America insisted on keeping its own colonies). In addition to that, many Chinese citizens have moved to Tibet by now, a free Tibet would mean them losing their homes.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: But why won't these Chinese just live under Tibetian rule when Tibet is free?
Because Tibetian rule consists of monks being the upper class and the peasants doing all the work. Of course, China's communist ideals led to this system being broken sort of forcing the monks actually having to work for a living (bad china! bad bad china!).
(continued in next post)
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
(continuation from previous post)
Due to China's nature of letting ethnic minorities being quite autonomous, the chinese who live there already have to cope with certain Tibetian habits of putting religion over everything, so in a way they are already doing all the work now and keeping the society going. They fear a return to the old system would make them the working class/workers of the clerical upper class.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: So is it better for Tibet to stay under chinese rule?
Now thats beyond me. I can't tell what the Tibetians will exactly do if they were free, wether they will be more modern as they learned from China or revert to their old system. But if Tibet were to accept unity and peaceful coexistance with China, they would stay autonomous. The chinese there would probably diminish the culture over time making Tibet more and more "civilised" and capable of economy
(continued in next post)
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
(continuation from previous post)
at the cost of Tibetian traditions, but then again, when ethnic minorities are about to lose their traditions, the chinese government will once again pull the breaks and put their culture under its protection like it does with the other 54 ethnic minorities. If Tibet accepts Chinese rule peacefully, they would lose claims of details in History in exchange for developement without losing their culture - and their current Lama. =P
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: Did China rob Tibet?
You could say China "robbed" Tibet, but they robbed it as much as USA robbed the Native Americans (what you call Indians), Chinese had official rule over Tibet since the 13th Century.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Fact: Does China oppress religions?
Yes and no. Religion is officially free, as a communist state couldn't care less about religion. Religions are banned if they are believed dangerous. What, you thought they do it for fun? More importantly, chinese do not opress the religion of tibetians. Buddhism is one of the official chinese people's religions, how the heck should China try to ban that?

read the news:
1. much of the fireworks broadcast to the world were 3D animations and pre-recorded photoshop-ed footage of rehearsals.
2. even more shocking, the little kid was lip-syncing. because the actual kid who sang the song was considered by the politburo "not cute enough".
if a country is willing to judge little kids like that in order to put up some "make-up" for the rest of the world, i'm sorry, no one should be impressed.
geodesicks 3 years ago

do your research before you say anything. 1st, china didn't try to hide the truth, it's only done as to prepare for the bad weather.
Secondly, it's just like in any show, like any show on earth there will be ppl working behind the stage, and all of those are credited, so what was the problem here? I think it's you been too bitter and soar
nowhereman861217 3 years ago 2
umm, and the little girl fiasco?
yeah, i know china's trying to present its "cutest" side to the world. but really? by judging on a kid's alleged "cuteness" over her ability to sing? i'm sorry, but the rest of the world has progressed ethically beyond such wannabe-ness at the cost of judging children. it exposes a fundamental darkness of heart in china. i'm sorry. i had to say it.

This scandal doesn't make quite sense to me. I mean, if they really want to show the best face to the world, why not have someone lip-sync for Liu Huan, too? GamerDfde9 3 years ago

asianflash 3 years ago
maybe because they want to project themselves as morally equivalent to western society and its ideals?
but with systematic ethnic cleansing, undercover arms dealing with darfur to promote genocide in exchange for oil, a notorious record on human rights, labor and death camps for harmless spiritually inclined people, and no free press, uncensored internet or democracy to even begin to set things right, they're FAR, *FAR* from being morally equivalent to the west. long way to go...
geodesicks 3 years ago
Yes, they are way behind super awesome nations like the US who directly do genocides themselves in exchange for oil, deal with saudi arabia, have guantanamo bay, death sentence, torture, biased press that declares itself free but filters the information and has democracy for exactly 2 parties.
Except China does it for economical development while the US does it for people to pimp their ride.
Ignorant masses: pointing the finger at others to ignore own faults since the witchhunt and beyond!
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
first of all, pointing at someone else's mistakes doesn't vindicate yours.
secondly, there is free press and internet in america which though not perfect, are unheard of in china. so, it has the mechanism of questioning itself that is fundamentally absent in china.
thirdly, where did you see ethnic cleansing in recent american history?
i think the chinese people will find it *extremely* difficult to earn their democracy eventually. that's where the arc of justice will bend.
geodesicks 3 years ago
The first line pretty much repeated what I said.
Second, though Chinese press and internet are officially not free, the Chinese do not really lack information. Supposedly banned games are played in netcafes on an everyday basis. Your imagination that questioning one self is absent in China is evidence that you don't really know how things work there.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
If you actually can call what China is doing "ethnic cleansing", then the super awesome crusade against anything wearing a turban in recent American History counts as well.
And the Chinese already vote for their government, except the president isn't nearly as powerful as in most countries. What they have, its not dictatorship, its not democracy anf its not communism or socialism either. Its simply working.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
They are more likely to learn justice their own way. With 1/4 of mankind as population, a democratic system which simply ignores the minority could be nearly as devastating as things are nowadays.
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
But enough of my words, to quote some sino-experts commenting on the global uproar against China:
"Yeah, China has isses with Human Rights, but I wonder why Amnesty International is suddenly getting so public about it[...]the overall situation, though I think it will drop a bit during the olymics, has improved a lot, for Chinese standards at least and will according to AI itself[...]intellectuals Worldwide are puzzled by the sudden blaming, there are even complaints about air pollution!"
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
Another issue, "western" country presidents are often blamed for everything, so why isn't the Chinese President specifically getting blamed? Another sino-expert on it (I think he was David Shambaugh:
"Hu is silent, but skilled. It was to be expected that he would have trouble and fight over power, but he didn't[...]the KP is changing, people oversee it because there are more "interesting" things going on, in 2005-2005 all 72 million KP members were obligued

The party isn't as sklerotic or dogmatic as before, and by far not as much as people imagine it nowadays.[...]Hu's weakness would be his silence on the outside, he doesn't seem to have ideas for China's international role."
DynamicZer0 3 years ago
oh yeah, can you question the government and mock it in public? can you make fun of hu on national tv like they do on comedy central on a daily basis? sorry, playing banned video games in netcafes doesn't really cut it for free press or free speech. that was a ridiculous fucking argument... they play banned computer games in the dark, of course they have free press!
geodesicks 3 years ago
Lol, you actually think joking about things is not allowed? There is censorship and all but its not the way you imagine it, the government does get mocked in any comedy show, the actual questionable censorship is in the political level. fuck u, chinese are very friendly to white people.
calebeurope02 3 years ago 4
That means we Chinese are making a big mistake.
After all the insult you white pigs have done to us? Friendly? I fucking don't think so!!! You come over, we kick you out, after the olympic game of course. I strongly recommend that all Chinese should return home after they finish their schools. The western world is not the right place for us. We don't want to hang out with white pigs and we don't welcome them living in China.
sonofmanchu 3 years ago
Ooh you're manchu?? I read a book about dowager empress Cixi, and since then I had become so interested in Manchu's. And also by Baoshu, a personage in the book 'An ocean apart, a world away'.
XxXMissNolitaXxX 3 years ago
What do you think of Empress Cixi? than.
sonofmanchu 3 years ago
I don't know, actually. There are so many different stories about her, if you know what I mean. The book that I read was very positive about her, the writer wrote it to prove that she wasn't that evil. After reading the book, I went on the internet to look for more information about her, and almost every site said that she was evil and killed people to gain power. So I really don't know what to believe. What do you think, then?
XxXMissNolitaXxX 3 years ago
Ehmmm... why? I live in the west, and I'm Chinese... and I've got lots of white friends...^^

Been here for 10 years already and loves it.
luke96792 3 years ago
at least ya know that Taiwan is also a part of CHINA...

America is a multi ethnic society.......way more multi ethnic than China. So I would hope you do some research before you name call America. Its more than white people I tell you that much.
luke96792 3 years ago
multi-ethnic yet minorities face racism, glass ceiling, discrimination and are often consider non-american. China is more multi than you ever know. China consist of 56 ethnic groups, yet within those 56 ethnic groups are hundred and hundred of subgroups, languages, and cultures. They are allow to speak their languages, follow their traditions and be proud of who they are. they are not known as minorities, they are known as people of zhongguo, or people of China.
niamtxiv 3 years ago 6
Yet when its done in comparison to the US.then its a no-brainer that America tops the list against China.
You'll find racism everywhere multiculturalism occurs. To imply like it doesn't happen in China is a complete farce.
I live in Hawaii..being one of the most multi cultural places per capita in the world..and though we may not be perfect...its a true example of how people of many nationalities can come together on a bunch of islands in the middle of the sea and live in peace and harmony.

It doesn't matter but this is only cheating on the AMerican people who do not travel.
wikct2 3 years ago
Are you watching the same stations I am watching because I see commercials all the time talking about the olympics in China. The US doesn't need to downplay anything in regards to China. It still is the only super power in the world and China still has a whole lot more to do to catch up. They are but slowly. The US isn't threatened by China. Believe me.
luke96792 3 years ago
I'd like to now what channels do you watch? I just don't want to missed the events during the Olympics or the boring programs that only show Americans winning events. It was the same thing for Olympic in Seoul, South Korea. What the US talked about was not about how the Koreans preparing for the Olympics, instead, they just talk about Koreans eating dogs and stuff like that so people remember not the glory of the Korean people but all negative things.
wikct2 3 years ago
Of course...... its AMERICAN news channels displaying the successes of our AMERICAN TEAMS!!! What else did you expect? And you act like it doesn't happen all over the world....but fact is it does. And why would American be concerned about how Koreans prepare for the olympics? How does that give instrest to the people? And its sad that they talked about Koreans eating dogs, but you try to characterize a WHOLE group because of the actions of a few.

Who would be an Olympics sponsor? Just when memories of the 1980s boycotts were receding, the most successful director in movie history announces that he is quitting in protest at China's policy on Darfur.
Outrageous! China is not only silent it own citizen but also bullying others nations to ban world athletes from freedom of speak.
mayyoubekind 3 years ago
How not true. And Spieldberg is nothing than an ORDINARY human being with a lying mouth.
Please do me a fucking favor. Don't watch olympic, just go home and put to fuck yourself. Or if you like you can continue spread lies and enjoy American killing ppl worldwide using whatever lies they can think of.
tiji2005 3 years ago

You are getting too much distorted information from US media.
wikct2 3 years ago
Yeah blame the US media for the stuff China is doing. Its still under a communist regime so all of the lack of freedoms is because of communism. You might not agree with it but its all there for the people to see. You don't need to see the US media to know China keeps many things under wraps. They want to show a good face to the world. I don't blame um though.
luke96792 3 years ago
Who cares if China is communist or capitalist In fact, China has become more and more like capitalist which is what America is.The gap between rich and poor is getting bigger. People are more greedy and selfish. Social welfare is getting less and less for the poor. Business over People's rights. If you have more money then you have more freedom and rights. No wonder more and more people going back to China to live and work because they feel there is similarity with US now.May be you dont know.
wikct2 3 years ago
Oh yeah China has become more capitalistic but with a communist bent. I'm part Chinese btw, and its funny you mention that Chinese are going back to China but tend to forget that many Chinese also want to come to America because it is more free. We can debate whether its is or not, but facts show it to be true. China is trying to tighten up its image and throw on a positive face for the world.
luke96792 3 years ago
Yes, many Chinese want to come to the America because they don't know better. Most of them have not been to US so they don't have life experience in US. They have high expectation about this is so called 'free world' and 'America Dream'. No society or system is perfect so why China has to be totally like us in the US. They can have their own system according to their own culture, tradition and realistic approch. Something works in one place does not necessarily works at another place.
wikct2 3 years ago
I find it funny that because I mention that the Chinese come to America in droves....YOU write that its because they don't know better. Obviously I'm typing to someone that already as a biased in regards to the America and your posts prove it. Millions around the world hear about the "free world" and the "American Dream" because it can happen. You work hard and stive, you can get there. People envy America because they offer so much. And btw, America is still a young country.
