  • Looks to me a combination of karate, jujitsu, mma, and boxing, and of course kung fu, but that is almost invicible through the mixed martial art. This also looks pretty Harsh for a compatition you could break a neck or what?

  • Great fight!

  • this is truley one of the best exibition matchups of any discipline i have watched

  • Great fight!

  • KUNG FU IN ITS MOST BADASS FORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Looks more like mma fighting to me

  • @libra92kg

Its sanshou = striking and wrestling.

  • @libra92kg

There is no ground grappling or submissions in Sanshou. It's takedowns and striking. It would be a very good base to start with though.

  • wow

  • Very good...I like it...!!!!

  • didnt see hardly any strikes land.....was all bloody throws!

  • @petrucci15

    Two things:

    1) Throws and trips are scored higher than punches or kicks, so they go for throws when they can.

    2) This was an exhibition fight, not a competitive match. Punches and kicks were (for the most part) light. These guys were most likely brought in to show what they can do, but obviously were not going full force for rankings or a fight purse. Had it been an actual competition, you can bet that those guys would have been landing a lot more strikes and hard ones at that.

  • @petrucci15 even with these throws..I would get my ass whopped lol

  • the fighter in the black shoes realised he was versing their sifu at .47

  • I've never seen this kind of fight before. How is it scored? It seems like most of the bouts result in a take down, so is the striking really necessary? Seems to me like they should just go straight into the grappling.

  • @markthewhalekiller

The striking is scored too, but the trips and throws are scored higher. Plus you can win the fight by straight knock out as well.

  • great match, i just wish the ref stood on the other side of the ring so we could all see! haha

  • ref is in the way half da tym buh sanshou or sanda is a chinese martial art derived from the almost 400 diffrent kung fu styles of china it is kung fu in contact form

  • Yea sanda is bery good. Thats why shaolin monks use it for actual fighting, the rest are just forms/artistic side. Withouth sanda/sanshou shaolin is basically USELESS.

  • @MechPhantom That's really not quite true at all. Even though many of the forms taught around the temple today are more modern wushu sets that emphasize artistic and gymnastic styles, many of the older styles still remain quite lethal.

That, in addition to both iron body, incredible cardio vascular training (running up and down a mountain - daily), and weapons forms make Shaolin much more than "useless."

  • That was an amazing fight!!! congratulations!!!

  • 0:46 German Suplex!

  • that last throw was very interesting it kind of look liked a modified harai agoshi for those of u that know judo... I wonder if that is a throw in shuai jiao??

  • Good fight

  • so if this is real kung fu then why the hell do they use their fingers in the movies?!?!?! seriously.. :D

  • @soona86 sanda have rules, no fingers, in eyes, neck, etc, in the street can use it.

    sorry my bad english

  • @20Killa70Scapa oh not at all man :) your English is good..I myself am not a native speaker :)

thanks for the info :) really appreciate it :)

  • Whats the legend of this martial arts?

  • great technique both guys

  • chinese Wrestling version? O_o"

  • @SinclairCeltics1990

wtf dont give sinclair celtics thumbs down hes fucking right, i mean check the reverses suplex belly to belly suplex scissor kicks in this video hes got a point =D

  • Sanshou/Sanda would be the ultimate art if it incorporated grappling, chokes & submissions.

  • Thats why you learn more then one fighting style to help incorporate these moves into your overall fighting techniques.

  • But its a kick boxing sport, not MMA or self defense.

  • it does.

  • actually the real Sanshou does have grappling, choking and submission just like all Chinese martial arts, but on the stage these moves are forbidden

i practice Sanshou myself, in real life, it is definately a devastating technique

  • grappling, chokes & submission ?

Oh i think they already done that in 3000 years ago and they call it kungfu

The sport version of kungfu is more phisically and staminaly demanding then ground rolling alone

Bcoz if u compare the BJJ competition and sanshou competition, u will notice that:

Sanshou is more exciting, and more phisical/stamina demanding...

BJJ or other grappling is usually boring ,not very interesting, and not very phisical/stamina demanding

  • @pangyf25250 Lot of people dont c it but i believe that jj have phisical/stamania and i agree it is boring looking at it.

  • @EdwinjoseFeliz who would like to see 2 guy ground fighting?

  • @ericown lol i dont like to c guys plus i dont fight

  • those 2 idiots talking are pissing me off so bad

  • Good stuff!

  • That's a match between buddies. A setup fight. They're not trying to hurt each other. They aren't even trying to block the takedowns... Come on...

  • Buddies slamming the piss out of each other

  • what are you talking about....have you ever fought in sanda competition?

  • Very good technique, both fighters

  • Agreed. I was surprised.

  • I wish there was a sanda school in my area. It looks damn effective.

  • Nice to add some ground fighting from there

  • yeah theres takedowns

  • This guys use regular boxing gloves or MMA gloves.

  • regular

  • they use regular gloves! mostly!

  • 0:49 / 7:28...wow nice German supplex there..really stun opponent at the beginning..good...try.

  • Great match - thanks for the show!

  • I play Kung Fu sanda actualy , And what i hate the most that its all about strengh and long breath, im good at both but , Agility isnt really a factor in sanda , other forms of kung fu is more entertaining and lovely, like viper its mostly like karate but still good, tiger, i like tiger.. But i hate sanda , PS going on a championship after 2 months guys! wish me luck!

  • u hate sanda but ure playing it?

    On what? Xbox? :D

Sanda has one good reason - the shooting.

Sanda has one bad reason - the shooting, cuz if u fight against a Muay Thai u seriously get a knee to ya fae ;)

  • I disagree. One of the reasons that Sanda was developed was to combat against Muay Thai's Strike such as knees and elbows. To combat strikes they added other elements such as chinese wrestling into the equation. Shooting doesn't always start from for away and sweeps/throws doesn't necessarily mean you have to shoot to get in.

  • Shut up you wannabe snob. No luck to you.

  • Вольная борьба а не kung fu!!!

  • good!

  • NICE!!!!

  • Is the guy in red chinese?

  • I can tell you...no, i am not Chinese

  • hablen en español xd

  • Fucking AWESOME demo/exhibition!!!

Better 2 watch this then the "BJJ vs ALL-LOUSY-M.A" demo/exhibition...

BTW, im pretty sure this 2 guys also learned sanshou ground techniques 2, bcoz sanshou HAVE ground skill to, right?

  • Well in my opinion that's not a fight. These guys have skill of grabling and throwing but they didn't understand what the meaning of "FIGHT" is. If they only want to grab and throwing each other, so why they don't go to wrestling? There is enough fun of grabing and throwing. But SANDA/SANSHOU consists of hard fighting and grabling/throwing are tools to win (finish) your oponent. In my eyes this fight is kind of boring.

  • That's why it's called an "exhibition match."

  • Muy Thai and kickboxing competitors are prohibited from throwing by rules. Even karate has throwing techniques. Sanda makes kickboxing a more complete system. However, I don't know if it builds a more well rounded fighter since Cung Le is only Sanda turned MMA fighter I can think of.

  • KJ noons and James Franshier are two other sanda fighters who went MMA. theyre no Cung le but theyre doing pretty good in the MMA world

  • It's a DEMO!!!

  • I saw them throw about a hundred kicks and/or punches.....

  • nice really nice would love to messure myself with one of these two guys

  • These guys are both awsome. Props to their trainers.

  • muy bueno

  • amazing sanda fight from both fighters

  • Anyone know what team Duffin fights for?

  • I was self trained (combining Judo and Traditional Kung Fu) at the time. In 2004 i moved to Cali and trained with Cung Le full time til 2007. Since then i have trained with Rudi Ott til present

  • Anyone form Rudi's trying out for the National team?

  • Don't think so. We have 3 fighters competing for muay thai title belts in July. Jenna Castillo is fighting for a world title. I would love to fight for the team again....but, nobody over 35 is allowed to compete.

  • I know how you feel. It sucks to be old. Rudy must be getting close to 35 by now. How old is he? 32?

  • good to see someone knows a little history:)

  • is this a real match?

  • This is an exhibition fight showcasing Sanshou techniques. This particular fight was after the competitions were over.

  • i wanna do sanshou soooo bad!! that was an awesome scissor kick!!

  • lmao i thought tat the first guy with the souplex was cung Le at first!!!!!

  • Where was this fight at and what federation is it in

  • Atlanta GA. USA and it was the Art of War Sanshou tournament

  • wushu (kung fu) and sanda aren't two different styles. sanda is part of their wushu training. it comprises of two parts. taolu (forms), and sanda or sanshou (sparring or free hand application)

so any style of kung fu competes in sanshou tournaments, its just a mixing of all the styles.

  • Coming from a proud heterosexual i am sure

  • Comment removed

  • psh yeah, traditional styles used on the street look even better than the movies haha

  • yeah but thats because theyre called movies. jet li is actually a wushu champ so he does those forms but lets not forget that alot of sanda fighters are also wushu practitioners. same with cung le

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • ive done my research and i know jet doesnt do fighting as what he does are forms. sanda fighters dont do forms but i was referring to wushu practitioners in china. once they complete forms in a competition, they would also be a sanda competition where these wushu guys fight. im not sure if they have schools where they mix wushu with sanda together in America but they do in china.

  • Comment removed

  • now THIS is kung fu. excellent stuff!

  • I concur, sanda was founding by a bunch of kung fu guys of different styles coming together to devise a new system. IT was continually refined after time.

  • is sanda the same as sanshou??

or are it two different styles?

  • Its the same.

  • I love sanda. It is my favorite martial art! Its so rough, but diverse. In terms of sporting martial arts, this is my favorite, hands down.

  • Sanda has won back my respect for Chinese martial arts. I actually wouldn't mind trying the art out if I ever get a chance.

  • hell, same here. i'm finishing up my tkd so i can finally try it out. shows much promise.

  • do they use elbows and knees in sanda?

  • to skilleskalle: yes, elbows and knees can be used in it.If you want,I can give you some skill videos of using them in sanda.

  • Good thing they changed Kung Fu. I remember as a kid I tried it and I was like "How in the hell am I going to use it in the street". Stuff looks sick though (now).

  • Kung Fu originally referred to anything with particular skill, such as calligraphy, artistry, or even martial arts. Martial arts in general was called Wu Shu. Kung fu now has assimilated the martial arts area of our minds. There are several hundered "Kung Fu" styles, this particular one, Sanda, is taught to the Chinese army. or so I hear.

(Shaolin Kung Fu is still the coolest, though. Great history behind it)

  • San shou is the tournament sparring you learn at a wushu school. It is from China, being in the category of wushu. It is kickboxing with takedowns on a point system.

  • Awsome

  • Excellent Muay Thai and Judo combined is WIN. Nice striking and take downs, the suplex was killer

  • how did that dude survive that suplex man that was insane lol.

  • its not muay thai, look cloely these guys use Side Kicks, Muay thai fighters dont use side kicks only in Sanshou, Karate, Sambo, Kickboxing, and TKD use side kicks but not Muay thai. this is sanshou there is a difference.

  • There is a side kick in muay Thai, but it is not a common technique.

  • actually it's not Muay Thai and Judo combined. The striking aspect of Sanda comes from various chinese martial arts and the grappling aspect comes from shuai jiao, which is one of the oldest forms of Chinese kung fu.

  • Actually, Pope's team fights closer to the Russian style than the Chinese.

  • @rottenzombie27 let's just call it mma LOL :)

  • No, you got it all wrong Kleni.. You clearly don't know what you're talking about.. KLENI IS NOOB!!!! NOOBZOOOOR!!!

  • Great fight.. Yeah it's basically kick boxing + Judo/wrestling..

It's called modern Kung Fu, it's not like the traditional kung fu were you punch/kick in the air and stuff.

Modern Kung fu/Wushu/sanshou/sanda is the same stuff and is a combat oriented martial art just like kickboxing, Muythai and so on..

  • Is Sanda pretty much Wrestling + Kickboxing?

  • No, it's the application of kung fu in real combat:it includes punchs kiks throws chokes and arm or leg soke!

  • was saying before. i've been training in san shou for years and didnt even know it exsisted. my style has always beeb western/mauy thai kick boxing with greco roman styles throws. then added to it judo and submission wrestling for the ground. but trained like that for years with my guys and we didnt know bout this. wierd eh?

  • wow this sport is crazy. looks like it could be easily incorporated into mma. i dont really understand the scoring for the takedowns tho... is it like judo where u need to expose the guy's back to the mat when u throw them? that guy w/the hairy chest would be badass in judo.

  • u just throw them. A punch or kick socre 1 or 2 points, but a fall is always 2 points.

  • Well, if your strike causes them to fall down, thats 3 points, and if you do a takedown technique and go down with them, that's only 1 point. Exceptions are sacrifice throws like the suplex and flying scissors.

  • knock out of the ring counts as a takedown, unless you go with them. Then no score.

  • This is the perfect style for mma. All ufc fighters should practice this style and mix it in with there jui jitsu.

  • referee MOVE THE FUCK OUTA THE WAY

  • so when did you fight a sanda/sanshou fighter?

  • This art is derived from Shaolin dumbass

  • you are a dumb ass . . . . .

  • Cung Le....

  • Man I thought that guy was gone after the German suplex

  • i think san shou is practical even in street.nice...(i dont learn any of this kind sport martial art)

  • güzel miş ordaki yenen benim

  • real nice fight, good takedowns, good san shou fighters Respect.

  • No its not

  • Ever seen kickboxers getting slammed on their heads??

  • Suplex in the beginning was ace.

  • Wow, grade A! Amazing fight

  • the Kicka or the dude wit the hairy chest...hes kicks are fast but then dont work that much because hes to far away. These Sanda fighters are really good at take downs though. Sanda is by far the most illest martial art out. The thing is, those gloves are HUGE ive used them in a Sanda Comp and they are annoying but is easier to catch somones foot. =D making Easy grapling

  • wow theese guys are fucking pros jesus...both of them should host Human Weapon on the History channel insted of the otehr two idiots...

  • cool

  • goooooooooddd fight bravo!!! and guys talking in the back fucking funny!!

  • excellent throws

  • Yeah, it WAS an exhibition ( Demo ) fight between me ( Duncan Duffin ) and Albert Pope in 2003. A lot of people still write me and tell me it was a good fight.....i wish i could say it was. When we did this it was pretty much a freestyle thing, we did not do anything that was "set-up." Thanks again for the nice comments!!! Duncan

  • There are a lot of good take-downs here. Very nice.

  • damn, just saw the comment where it says it was a demo. Coulda fooled me :(

  • That was the greatest thing I've ever seen. Looked more like a demo than a match.

  • This was at the Art of War tournament in Atlanta....i ( we ) are not Asian and this was actually a demo fight. My name is Duncan Duffin originally from Michigan and now training full time out in Milpitas California under Rudi Ott. Look me up on my space Duncan Duffin

  • Rudi Ott, isn't he one of cung le's best students. Respect to you, san shou is an honourable practice, I myself fight it but not at the level you are at

  • Rudi used to be under Cung. I moved out from Michigan to train under Cung and Rudi at the same camp. I LOVE Sanshou, in this video ( 2003 ) i still needed a lot of work. Now i feel that i have finally improved enough to teach it effectively. Thank you for the props!! Good luck to you. Duncan

  • Originally he was one of Jason Yee's best students before he started with Cung

  • Albert never was a part of Cungs team!!

  • And as far as I know, he was never Jason's student either. As far as I can remember, I was refering to Rudi.

  • who??

  • Rudi Ott. ISKA US super middleweight San Shou champ, IKF middleweight San Shou world Champion, and former member of the Boston San Shou team.

  • I teach at his gym, he is a great coach and a good friend. i was not sure if you were talking about Albert!!!

  • Cool. How is the new gym doing? I heard Cung opened up right near you guys.

  • Im looking for a San shou gym in LA any advice

  • me too man lol!! you live in southern Cali?

  • Yeah Hermosa Beach.. Let me know if you find a gym around here

  • lol i was about to ask you the smae thing, soo yea for sur, il let u no. u know theres one in arcadia but im not sur if thats northern or southern cali?

  • not really, they are americans

  • are these people asian?

  • nice sanshou where is this at
