No... salad and lettuce not the same... think about it... the vegetable itself is called lettuce and when you mix it with oil or other vegetable it's a salad.

You can make salad with everything even pasta.

in French we use "salade" for a mixed salad like you said

BUT as well for the name of a specific kind of vegetable which is in the same like a lettuce but different "la laitue" doesn't have the same leaves as "la salade".
