Actually red pandas are listed as vulnerable given that unlike the Giant Panda they actually adapt rather well to captivity there are about 800 in zoos worldwide.

It is not illegal to adopt one depending on where you live. Obviously as you can see ppl are adopting them and taking care of them. You would probably have to go through a process to get a license to have one or some crap. Since they are extinct Im sure the government or some society would be keeping an eye on them.

@huskyfan1000 They are an endangered species so it may be illegal. But they are a little bit bigger than a house cat and have teeth and claws just the same so I would say they are no more or less dangerous than a cat or a dog. it would all depend on how agressive the animals are but then again there are some dog breeds that are knowen for being agressive and we still keep them. I say make it legal to keep them as pets. Millions of people would get one and they would be saved from extiction.

@kurisu925 a lot depends on how hard they are to breed. Take slow lorises, they are near impossible to breed in captivity. Not sure if red pandas are like that but if they are taking them into captivity would be the worst thing ever. Also, "millions" of people buying an exotic, clearly destructive animal would end in tears. It takes a very special person to care for exotic creatures. Not that I wouldn't love one of these as a pet, if they were legal I'd be on the waiting list lol!

@kurisu925 When you take care of a dog you have to know how to take care of it properly what is it about "exotic" animals that is so different? Any animal that is not what people consider a "normal" pet is considered an exotic animal. Society's perception is really the only difference.

You can't get one... unless you win the super lotto and are willing to spend over 1 million dollars for one on the black market. And even if you did that, you'd have to know a great deal about these animals in order to provide for them to ensure they are healthy and their needs are met. Lastly, you'd have to make sure no one knew you had one... you'd go to jail for a long time.

Even still, I'd kill to have one of these little guys... they are the most amazing animal on earth.
