This kind of flying sure is exhilerating. It does come with it's risks though, the weather conditions did look stable, bird strike is not as predictable and can have serious consequences, engine failure.... it does happen, and at or below 100' AGL options are seriously limited, there are other issues. I operate a C206, it is more truck than sportscar. I intend to be an old pilot, not a bold one. Just my 2c worth. Stay safe.
Great use of ground effect! beautiful scenery. the only thing i would be concerned with is any potential lee-side downdraft and/or wind shear from the mountains, but perhaps you're far enough away. excellent flying.
@jpreel Downdrafts are pretty negligible when at the bottom of a valley. Windshear is always a possibility, but generally the conditions have to be much more unstable.
@Propsink Where is that? And I'm not a pilot, but I hope to be one day - what are the laws - whereever that is - about how low you can fly? is there only a minimum altitude above cities and such?
This is amazing, great job. You have to be a very comfortable pilot in order to fly this low, which means you've probably got some experience. Screw the regs. 500ft rule lol :P
At least on this video there are places to drop the plane if you get an engine out. fun until someone flies towards you doing the same thing..............
It's one thing to do this in an airplane that can turn on a dime (like an RV8 etc) it's quite another to do it in a slow responding Cessna.. Great skills! Just hope you are the only one flying on that river at the same time. Would ruin your day if you came up on someone doing the same thing in the opposite direction. Nice rudder skills by the way.
Absolutely stunning views, and very nice flying. I like the precise altitude control.
The minimum altitude at which you can fly has NOTHING to do with controlled or uncontrolled airspace. Over a sparsely congested area, you need only remain 500ft FROM (not necessarily above) people or structures. Also, at all times, in the event of an engine failure, you must be high enough to not pose undue risk for people or property. That's it. Read the regs.
Looks cool, I'd like to experience it but it would suck to read your obituary that said you died filming a" kick ass video" for a YouTube. One a Civil Air Patrol pilot with thousands of hrs in Cessna 182s was flying in Idaho and hit a cable strung across the Snake River. It cut the plane in half. This, from a guy that volunteers to find missing and downed aircraft. A hundred feet leaves NO reaction time. Nice size balls, tho!
say, i have aquestion. i only have 5 hours of flight so im still a noob, but what are the regulations for low flight? are there certain areas you are allowed to go below 500 ft? just curious :)
hi, I have about the same hours as you, I don't know if it's true but i think in uncontrolled airspace you are allowed below 500ft, when I was ona flight once, the instructor took me down to 100ft. He then told me to turn around and fly at 1000ft i descend to 300ft, he wasn't really that happy haha. I hope this helps :)

Yeah, Class G airspace is below 1200 AGL, and it is unrestricted so you can do stuff like this. No buzzing houses or populated areas though.
