THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!! I have never been able to find this version. Only the Willie Nelson Version and some electric guitar version by The Reivers. When I was at Texas Tech in the mid 90's, there was a Western Montage and part of it was played in that by the band at Half Time of the football games.
I love this song - I remember my father loved it and it always seemed to be on the radio during my driving lessons out on the country backroads around San Antonio with him. Fond memories from a native San Antonio, Texan!
Love how TCR used the main riff from this in a variety of instruments: piano, guitar, etc. It was background music to the features. Maybe even electric guitar? Always effective..
We played this in the LBJ High School Band in 1974-5. My all time favorite. Right now I'm trying to resurrect it by placing it in a patriotic, Texas-centric medley.
Say, I remember that tune. I heard it when I watched the '8 Country Reporter' on WFAA-TV-8 in Dallas/Fort Worth. Yes, that show used to air on KDFW, when it was a CBS affiliate but is now a Fox O&O. I heard that the currently-named 'Texas Country Reporter' later aired on KTVT CBS 11 and KTXA 21 but now it airs on RFD-TV. Thank you very much indeed for posting!
LOVE IT ! I've got the original LP as well--- in storage. And it does remind me of "Bob Phillips 4 Country Reporter" in Dallas. MANY THANKS for posting this !
I can't believe I finally found this after all these years! I remember hearing it on the original "4 Country Reporter" show back in the '70s. Takes me back to my mom and step-dad's house in Irving, watching the TV on Saturday evening. Thanks for putting this up!
WOW!! This was my favorite tune when I was in preschool circa 1976 because my dad had the 8 track. It's been a holy quest to find this again for about 10 years! Thank you!
This is still being performed in 2011 by THE SONG GODS as part of a medley, "The 2 Happy Wanderers". combining "The Happy Wanderer" and this since it was made well known again as the theme to what was 1st, the "4 Country Texas Reporter" then "8 Country..." (channel change) and finally and currently, "Texas Country Reporter".
It will eventually posted on YouTube by "THE SONG GODS" (best found by typing in as one word; "songgods".
I lived in Duncanville from '75-'82 during my junior high and high school days. I've grown to miss those years in Texas. This song brings me back to sitting with my family in our family room and watching 4-Country Reporter in a much simpler time in my life. Thanks so much for posting.
THANK YOU for adding this. I've been looking for it for years! I really appreciate it. Brings back memories of my childhood watching 4 Country Reporter on Sundays I think it was. Willie's version is nice too...
I have been looking for this theme song for a while now.
Every time I watch Texas Country Reporter I feel cheated by the opening/closing theme now being used. It's the only one my kids know and you can bet I will be playing this one for them tonight.
@grimmic I agree completely - I had a friend visiting and we happened to catch the show for the first time in years. I was so disappointed in the new theme I almost cried.
I love this song. Used to watch 4 Country Reporter, and then Texas Country Reporter, and fell in love with the song. I actually have the album, but nothing to play it on! This song says Texas to me in so many ways. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been looking for this version for years. My grandparents used to watch 4-Country back in Brownwood and this brings back tons of memories.
anybody stationed at Fort Hood would hear the 1st Cav Div band play this...

This original theme is so superior to the similar tune that they commissioned themselves so as to not have to pay royalties.

Thank you for posting. Always enjoyed hearing this on Bob Phillips show. Too bad this track and the lp have been overlooked for the digital age.
