  • We watched this series' entire run during father's four-year residency at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. Everything the younger doctors endured was spot on real life.

  • Comment removed

  • Is that Dan Rather in the background at :25???

  • I had forgotten that Denzel Washington starred in this series too! Shame on me!

  • ¿Es usted Ed Flanders? - No Ned Flanders - Me Equivoque

  • "And starring Mr. Feeny as Dr. Mark Craig"

  • Young David Morse looks like Simon Pegg with a curly-haired wig.

  • Damn..even Howie Mandel? I bet he didn't see himself as a bald guy one day

  • Orange Line certainly doesn't run THERE anymore.

  • I thought Denzel Washington had the cutest smoothest face I had ever seen on a man back then!

  • wow...thank u youtube!!!!

  • Denzel and David Morse (and ok Howie too) went on to amazing careers! funny if anyone watched this back then and thought they would

  • prob the second greatest ending to a tv show ever...

    NEWHART being #1 (second newhart)

  • I LOVED this show. Every year. Every episode! The only thing close to the quality was Six Feet Under on HBO.

  • The standard for all hospital shows....still the best of all time hands down!!

  • Oh gosh! This opening represents a lot of reminiscences for me!!!! I was 10 when I used to watch this reality on sunday nights with my family. And think that I'm not from the USA: this reality was broatcasted by the National Catalan TV (TV3) in the 80s under the title "A cor obert" (Open heart). Thanks for that video!

  • LOVE IT!! Brings back fund childhood memories. Thanks for posting!!

  • I use to watch this back in the day. It reminded me of "Hill St Blues" in a hospital setting...

  • Like Hill Street Blues, Northern Exposure, Dynasty, I looked forward to theme and stayed for the whole program. But St. Elsewhere led the pack in my mind all those years. What a great cast working with great scripts.

  • Watched the first season on hulu..loved it..however i guess there is no rush from distributors to put out the second season so im kinda screwed..anyone know of any way to continue watching this show please help!!

  • pokemon music

  • The best television show ever...period.

  • yes he is the voice of kitt

  • Funny to see Howie Mandel on the show as a doctor because he is such a whack job when it comes to germs in the real world.

  • When Cynthia Sikes left, this show went into the toilet.

  • If there was a show I'd watch just for the theme song alone, this would be it!!!

  • Weren't the 80s a great time? St. Elsewhere on Wednesday nights, Hill Street Blues on Thursdays, and MTV actually played music videos.

  • @lezfriend ,the 70s and the 80s were the best times on earth especially if you were a kid in those times like i was

  • @jamesbond504 Perhaps we did not realize it at the time, but you are quite right about that. In a lot of ways, I miss that period. The only thing I would wanted to have back then that we didn't have was the internet.

  • @lezfriend at least we had atari 2600

  • @lezfriend Yeah but the 55 MPH speed limit was still in effect and people could still smoke almost anywhere indoors and foul up the air.

  • I believe the voice of Kitt was Indeed William Dainel

Look to Boy meets World for what i am talking about

  • @wgw214 Mr. Feeny

  • can some one tell me, why did G.W. Bailey leave St. Elsewhere for the Police Academy movies?

  • @Mascro1977 Great question. I've always wondered that, myself.

  • @rikerdonegal Bigger question, why is on The Closer?

  • @Mascro1977 He left the series in the first season cause he did not get along with(R.I.P.)Executive Producer Bruce Paltrow(Gwyneth Paltrow's Father)..but nonetheless there is a bit of irony and humor in career move.

  • @Mascro1977 his agent prolly talked him into it

  • @Mascro1977 I read somewhere that he didn't get along with the producers so they made a mutual decision that he would leave.

  • @Mascro1977 ........MONEY!!!!!

  • @Mascro1977 He's basically a comedian.

  • @Mascro1977 Couldn't have been for the prestige... must've been the money.

  • the first season was the best

  • Quite some well-know faces. G.W. Bailey, Ed Begley jr., Terence Knox and especially David Morse and Denzel Washington. What a training ground for acting this must have been!

  • Ed Flanders?

    No, NED Flanders!

    My mistake...

  • Today, there is a hunger for high quality television programing as exemplified by St. Elsewhere. This show is a classic and the finest medical drama ever created. It had it all, with brilliance in writing, acting, directing and production. In the 1980s - we had St. Elsewhere - in 2011 - we have the garbage of reality television.

  • @Leftofway

Reality Television has fucked up television ever since 1992 when that bullshit show called the real world came on.

  • @Leftofway I know it makes you wish you had a time machine to go back to those days.

  • Ahh the great show that spawned many a good solid acting careers.

  • BTW...for those who remember Family Ties, David Birney was married to Meredith Baxter Birney from the 70's until 1989. She (of course) was the mother of Michael J Fox in Family Ties. :)

  • Isn't William Daniels the voice of KITT in Knight Rider?

  • @tall32guy Yes

  • @tall32guy Yeah. In the 80's I kept thinking Kitt's voice was so familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it.

  • @tall32guy, Yep he was doing this show around the sametime with Knight Rider.

  • @tall32guy Yep, as well as Mr. Feeney on "Boy Meets World".

  • The Cake is lie, and so is this hospital

  • I did a gymnastics routine to this theme song my freshman year of high school. Yup, I was that cool.

  • @CariRuth That's awesome. Yeah, the cheesy 80's music we did gymnastics routines to. I did one to Footloose for a grade school talent show.

  • I always loved William Daniels in this, and the surgeon he portrayed. He was my favorite character, next to Erlich.

  • That was when Howie had some Hair.

  • @Fartingbellybutton and still wore a mask! LOL

  • Great theme created by Dave Grusin who performed many tv and movie theme songs, also wrote the music for the theme to the movie Tootsie, "It might be you" by Stephen Bishop.

  • @hockeyboy74

and one life to live theme from 1984-91.

  • Whatever happened to that Denzel Washington?

  • @Danskoe I WONDER THE SAME WHERE IS HE THESE DAYS...LOL

  • @Danskoe He is making movies.

  • @Danskoe "That" Denzel Washington is the biggest and a film movie actor Legend that outshined all of his cast. He should make a movie with Steven Seagal LOL

  • Mr. Feeny......Mr. Feeny!........MR. FEENY!!!!!

  • Greatest medical show of all time!

  • Holy hell. I can't believe G.W. Bailey is Provenza on The Closer. So different

  • This is before ER.

  • Is That Howie Mandel before Deal Or No Deal.

  • @1mikie19 That was Howie Mandel before a lot of things.

  • what was the episode that David Morses' character had to deal with a terrorist? It also had William Daniels character telling off Ed Bagley Jr in one scene of this episode. I just can't remember what episode or season it was from.

  • @bigricklovesyoutu100 It was the first two episodes.

  • IN the title it says this is season 1, but the description reads season 3. Which is it?

  • First. Thanks. Fixed it.
