Sammo Hung is actually very fit, not fat at all. He has a personal makeup artist who works on him for 3 hours before shooting any scene.
His publicist realized that most kungfu fans are fat losers who, while loving kungfu, are made to feel insecure about their own bodies by the well-built actors. @123asd260 millions would probably disagree and call me an uneducated retard for saying this, but its america. kickboxing comes from full-contact karake. many will say its from thailand, from muaythai but if you look at the techniques of kickboxing, many just arnt found in muaythai. elipse and axe kicks for example which come straight out of karate. i study muaychaiya (a type of 'muayboran') and though there are some pretty flamboyant techniques akin to karate, they just arnt the same.
@Artaxerxes1986 one of the biggest (and fundamentally important) differences is the use of the shin for kicking in muaythai and the bridge of the foot in kickboxing. once one knows how powerful a shin kick is compared to a foot kick, theres little chance of going back to using the foot! (which is also far easier to damage).
@Artaxerxes1986 It's my understanding that the axe kick was originally used in Korean arts like tae kwon do. There's been much borrowing of technique between karate and TKD over the years, though some karate and TKD stylists may not admit it.

A technique's a technique, in the end it really doesn't matter where it comes from or who did it first (unless someone is taking credit for someone else's work). @viyark Because depending on your fighting style. Weight can be an advantage. Something like traditional western wrestling (NOT professional wrestling) is all about weight, and leverage. It pays to be the heaviest in your weight class.

Funny, first time I saw Sammo in the late 70's I thought his movie would suck, it didn't. Shame it took so long for these movies to get to the US. Spooky Encounters were also great movies.

what is the name of this movie. billy chow is a badass dude. he made a great bad guy on fist of legend. i also seen a movie with him doing some kicks but he was doing it in a thong. that was fucked up!!!! time to turn off the movie.

There was an entry in a good martial arts' book called 'From Lee to Li' about Sammo Hung. Bout how he trained at the Peking Opera School and got that scar on his face when someone attacked him with a broken bottle.

Do not and i mean do not underestimate Sammo Hung's Size , ever.
He might look pudgy and big and round ;
but man he moved faster than a young capoeira mastre on any day.
Trust me - he hits faster too.
But all in all , he is not a martial artist rather an actor and acrobat.
He can fight though - he had wingchun , western boxing and hapkido trainings.
