Your videos are great. Each one is well thought out and prepared without being stiff. You use the camera angles very well to get the point you want across. The sound and video quality are good and well edited. And, most importantly, the info you present I have found very, very useful. Thanks so much for posting these.
Shifting up can also be done without clutch, just aplly preasure to gearlever, roll of the gas, and when u reach the point just before u start to enginebreak, the it will go up to next gear and u go back on the gas again. Doing it like that is faster and safer if u really push it it.
Great vid. Does remind me of the coolest stunt I've ever seen though. It was done by a chap riding an old (not so old then) GPz900 at one of these show off in a car park type events. He starts riding the bike in a circle and gradually gets slower and turning tighter. His left elbow is on the tank and his chin is on his hand. Next the left foot moves to the pillion peg and the rider peg decks. It stays rattling off the floor as he keeps riding round in tiny circles. Never touches the clutch.
Your videos are helpful, just started riding again after 10 years. Bought a 96 Magna with 8k. I love the bike, great power and handling. Can you do another video on rain riding? When you lean in a turn on wet corners(90 degrees), what is the best way to keep the rear tire from sliding out? Thanks, great job on the videos, helps a lot of riders, including me.
This one's just for the newbies: using the friction zone (or slipping the clutch as it's also know) should only be performed at low speeds in 1st and 2nd gear. Above 15mph, you should always corner with the bike fully engaged in gear. This will reduce the risk of the rear wheel sliding or locking.
Upshifting through the gears is fundamentally all the same, you should match your RPMs to your speed--if you're having to eeeeeeeeeeeeease the clutch out shifting to third then you may be shifting too soon. An upshift should be quick and clean. Make sense?
Same in first gear going up to second, any gear shift up should be neat and tidy and quick.......... I think shifting down you have to slowly let the clutch back on. ;-)
Really great video. Creative idea with the rod attached to the clutch, really made it a lot easier to understand especially with the on-screen graphics. Keep up the good work!
When I was learning to ride, my instructor told us to imagine wringing out a wet towel when shifting. Right hand goes away from you, left hand squeezes - it doesn't have to be a quick action (though it will get quicker with practice).
Oh wow you're an awesome teacher!! It pretty much showed me that it's kind of like a Manual Transmission car! I watched other tutorials and they made it so complicated with so much talkin, BUT! I have one question...
For a normal ride in a car you usually shift between 2-3 RPM
What about or bikes? what RPM do you shift? And if to go fast then which RPM at that?
It's pretty much up to you! You don't want to shift too early and lug the engine. Find your own sweet spot where things happen comfortably. Check your owner's manual and they'll have some suggestions.
You'll probably find it is like your car in the sense that there will be a 'sweet spot' for daily riding. Many bikes rev upto 13-14,000 rpm so the spot will be higher on the bike than in a car Crash is just saying you'll have to find it yourself as every bike/car is different! With my bike I change around 7,500-9000rpm when im riding casually.
My Joe Rocket jacket is just like his. I love it, but what's more I have to laugh at people that buy that sh!t and thinks it's the end all be all.
It's made in Pakistan...
Bought mine off CL for...$20 bucks. And I'll be damned if I'll ever buy a new jacket. Dealers prolly pay $20 bucks for it, and sell it to brand snobs for a 300% mark-up.
In the immortal words of Nelson Muntz...HA HA!!
Have fun and be safe, but most of all keep the rubber side down, Brand Whores!

if I am in 2nd gear, and I shift to 3rd gear, do i have to ease the clutch out or can i drop it? Can you stall at high speed?

Ooo so it's not like my car after all since most cars shift between 2-3 RPM when just gettin from point A to point B, Thanks alot Capt!
