Thats filmed in Rotorua for sure ay brew! The B Boys, RATM and Cypress Hill were my first CDs when I was 12!!! I've never seen this video before and I like it, but if you havent seen Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii make like Fatboy Slim and 'check it now!'...
Im 15 and i was the only kid at my school who knew who the Beastie Boys where. I would listen to them in the hall way and people would over hear the music and ask me who it was. long story short most kids at my school are obsessed to the Beastie Boys
EARLY 90'S BEASTIE BOYS, MOST UNIQUE MUSIC EVER..what other old-school hip-hop band ACTUALLY PLAYS THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS, WHILE RAPPING AT THE SAME TIME?? GENIUS, GENIUS,GENIUS...... FUCKING GENIUS.....BEST RAP ALBUM OF THE 90'S, BEST ROCK ALBUM OF THE 90'S...
@smellyc It is quite possible the bass rig is an original since its two Altec PA bins and Pink Floyd used/owned many of that particular type. So there were probably plenty around for them to source for this video.
I've heard that when the Floyd wanted to sell some of their old stuff in the 1980s, the Beastie Boys did indeed get some of their equipment. So those just might well be the originals.
@misterbizzones nope thats not bobo on percussion, even though he was Beastie's percussionist for years, that is actually AWOL, the drummer they used to bring on tour when they'd play their hardcore songs that mike D sings on.
This was indeed filmed in Rotorua, New Zealand in 1992, hence the reason the kangaroo is weird. When the video came out people freaked because they had just gone to thermal park and shot the video. They were lucky--that pool they are filming in front of is unstable (it crumbles away) and is prone to blasting super heated water out with no warning. The local authority said they would never have let them film there for their own safety if they had asked.
@Captaincalc1 I'm kiwi bro, Kangaroo comment was a dig at the aussies... Yeah now you mention it def looks like a health and safety issue here. If it's not the sudden blast from the pool/geyser theres always the sulphur fumes or pits of bubbling mud to content with! Sick tune.
@Captaincalc1 I love it when someone who knows something about the background of a video chimes in. I've had the impression that the Kiwis are generally pretty Libertarian - so maybe the Beasties didn't think they needed to ask?
@RVAepiphanyseeker libertarian? maybe--NZers don't like being told where they can go and what they can do if that's what you mean. So you're probably right--the local council was probably more interested in the welfare of the geyser than in the band!!
If you haven't watched the film this video is a parody of, you should do so now... it's on youtube for free and it's called "Pink Floyd Live at Pompeil" The B-Boys even obtained some of the same equipment used in the original.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I only like this video for the Kangaroo at the end. The song, and the Beastie Boys suck. Just like the Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin and did I mentions I scratch my belly better than Mike D. scratches turn tables.
@Tonnracha The kangaroo? Let's be real here... You were trying to type in "BRITANY SPEARS". You can find her along with your other favorite singer Miley Cyrus. Now run along little one ...Shoo! Go play.

Check out the video to Pink Floyd's Echoes filmed for Live at Pompeii for all the various references. This video is very much an homage to that movie.
Mainstream music might suck these days but since we have the internet, us young people find good music that way. There isn't any bands like Nirvana or Beastie Boys anymore, bands that are known by everyone. Instead we just have every subculture listening to their own music. MTV doesn't play music and the radio is outdated. Pandora and youtube probably have more impact now. To claim all young people listen to shit music is ignorant, perhaps you rely too much on the radio and mainstream.
@sirsquiggly Very astute observation right there. It will take a while for acts to go mainstream, but when you think about it, it took Depeche Mode and The Cure nearly ten years into their careers when they hit mainstream. Problem is that not many record companies are supportive of bands and artists like back in te 70's. 80's and early 90's. Lables drop acts very quickly if they do not make gold or plantinium. However technology is slowly side stepping record labels. Peace...
@adoll000 Nick Mason? Well it might be since Nick's drumming is more peaceful in some songs... But songs like Saucerfull of Secrets... he gets possessed by the spirit of Keith Moon..
Ad-Rock rocks it freakin hard on this one-i remember playin this so loud and hard in my bedroom as a kid when the folks were out. takes me wayyy back when.
