I'm Rosie in my school's production and I am SO excited! We just had our first full read-through today and it is such a great show :) You did a good job, especially considering you were only a junior!

Hi I wanted to audition for Rosie (even though i am a freshman) and so i watched Spanish Rose videos until i was blue in the face. When i thought i had a general feeling of this song, i happened to come across this version. I was glad i did. I watched it 12 times, and ended up getting the part! I keep coming back to this. It's Genius!!! It's not perfect but so sarcastic and realistic. Great voice and great direction. My favourite interpretation of the song. I'd love to see her perform it again in a few years when she's nearer the age of the character she's playing.

there is actually. She has the "Suitcase Ballet" (I believe thats the name) where she does a dance solo for a song, and then there's the "Shriner's Ballet" which is also a dance only number. Sometimes directors choose to leave these numbers out though, so if you aren't a dancer don't count yourself out just yet!

I get so pissed off every time I see the video. I amdit, anyway, this girl has talent, but it´s a shame using it for this kind of "comedy". Art is a codified way of telling about reality (it could be hidden as comedy, but with a real reference. This could very well be Mars). And, no, lady, "I won´t buy your tortillas" and "don´t like you, no".
I don't think you realize that her character is mocking the old woman's stupidity in thinking all spanish speaking cultures are the same. Just like I'm mocking you when I say that you know what you're talking about!
With all due respects, it´s really annoying this girl gets SO confused between 2 cultures. Spanish, by definition, means from Spain. The parody is some very messy mixture of 2 continents cultures. I know some crazy Spanish grils myself, but they have nothing to do with this kind of crap. I´m always ready to laugh at my own culture, but this was not funny at all. It´s not a parody of reality, but of some distorsionedview some people have of the Spanish speaking world.

I think she has a lovely singing voice
BUT
she really lacked energy in this performance. It didn't have that spark that Rosie exudes. She hit a couple of high points, but overall, it lacked.

That sounds like beautiful American democracy, uh? Many of you just say "shut up, don´t criticise". The thing is I never said that. I said the girl HAS talent but she can CHOOSE what type of art she wants to perform and that´s HER responsability. I think I´m totally entitled to NOT like the play and that anybody takes part in such a exaggerated parody. And please, don´t put words in my mouth. I never said it sucked. I can perfectly appreciate her voice IS good. Cheers.

You may not be familiar with satire, but that is the purpose of this song. The reason the author wrote this song was to make SOCIAL COMMENTARY about racial prejudice & discrimination against hispanics in hopes of bringing the issue to the attention of theatre goers (a largely white middle-upper class demographic at the time this show was written). As someone who is American Indian, I chose this role because of the stance it takes on white ignorance in race situations. Just thought u should know.

oh ok well i think that you are very talented!!!! i dont know if you read my comment on a house is not a home but you have some of the most God given and natural tlanet i have ever seen!!! i am in bye bye birdie with the local community theatre i am basically a dancer-my main role is i am a sad girl during put on a happy face i wish i could sing like you but i have no singing talent at all-if i could sing i would have auditioned for rosie but oh well

I get so pissed off every time I see the video. I amdit, anyway, this girl has talent, but it´s a shame using it for this kind of "comedy". Art is a codified way of telling about reality (it could be hidden as comedy, but with a real reference. This could very well be Mars). And, no, lady, "I won´t buy your tortillas" and "don´t like you, no".

I don't think you realize that her character is mocking the old woman's stupidity in thinking all spanish speaking cultures are the same. Just like I'm mocking you when I say that you know what you're talking about!

With all due respects, it´s really annoying this girl gets SO confused between 2 cultures. Spanish, by definition, means from Spain. The parody is some very messy mixture of 2 continents cultures. I know some crazy Spanish grils myself, but they have nothing to do with this kind of crap. I´m always ready to laugh at my own culture, but this was not funny at all. It´s not a parody of reality, but of some distorsionedview some people have of the Spanish speaking world.

shes ACTING!!! im spanish too and i found it funny cuz i dont take everything so seriously. she had NO CONTROL over how the play was written. she was simply acting the part she got. thats it. done.

for the acting one i was replying to something like "she has a responsibility to choose which play shes in" and the response for the right of the first ammendment was for that one too. and for the random much comment someone wrote thir dog's name is rose.
