  • My band is playing this year and the key of it is a bitch. and it's wrote in a split part that looks like it should be played in the riktor scale(our joke about it) but oh my good is it beautiful.

  • it might be slow but this is honestly one the most beautiful peices ive ever played in high school

    Monterey high school lubbock texas

  • I wish it was a little slower because i feel you get more emotion out of it.....but yet again every conductor has their own vision on how they want it to sound.

  • @karlowens2 This was actually played by highschool students ^^, 2 of my friends were actually a part of this band.

  • this sounds pretty sped up

  • This is such great playing! Even advanced wind ensembles at proficient schools have trouble controlling volume, pitch, and tone for flutes on the phrase soon after the oboe solo (and come to think of it, everywhere). It's great that all-state flutes are able to hide themselves in the din even whilst playing an A-flat twice above the staff.

  • BEST SONG EVVVVEEERRRR!!!!!!!!1

  • we're playing this in wind ensamble now:) i love it so much<3 and some of my classmates are in this! :) so thats pretty cool to hear. haah

  • We played this song in marching band. It was really beautiful

  • Is'nt this piece played by Brian Anderson?

  • @laineycox

Nah, it's for Brian Anderson by Eric Whitacre.

  • The Lakota West Symphonic Winds play this way better.

  • Best interpretation I've heard so far.

    Hands down.

...Other then when I played it back in high school. ;] haha just kidding. But seriously, This piece is amazing. I remember playing it and crying on stage while doing so. It was so emotional and incredible.

  • wow... nice job euphonium soloist

  • I played this with the Rhodes College Orchestra when I was in eighth grade. I played oboe. :)

  • The BHS band played this my sophomore year. We managed to get straight ones at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest. Man, I just love this piece.

  • i love it...Our symphonic band played this my sophmore year.

  • Oh, Bolstad. I miss him. This was one of my favorite pieces we did with him when he was at the University of Montana, Missoula. I can totally see him when listening to this!

  • Ho do I sit in on a rehersal with them??

  • You can't. NJ is real picky about sitting in on rehersals unless you're a parent of someone. My parents alost got kicked out of my choir rehersal this year. Idk why NJ is like this.

  • rly good stuff

  • Played this with my wind ensemble a few months ago. I don't think anything can replace this song. Well played, you guys. :)

  • i played this song when i was in band.

    played the clarinet.

    gorgeous piece.

  • Love the song, not a lot of percussion. I am a percussionist and its fun to listen to. I didn't get to play because of our 16 person drum section.

  • Absolutely LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • this is good. i didn't think id like it at this tempo but i did. it's a little faster than when i played it. great balance between the sections. amazing solo's. my favorite part in this song will always be from around 4:30 to the end. also i really love the low brass in this version. especially at like 4:40 and 5:35. ahhhhh great song. eric whitacre by far one of the best.

  • I was in this! Trumpet player =)

  • Cool! What part?

I was 3rd trumpet....but this was with Erie County All-county, not all-state NJ

    What an awesome song

  • I love this song! Im a trumpet player and I played this with the 2006 Harford County All County band. This video is one of the best recordings of it on youtube

  • We're playing this song for UIL this year.

    shooting for straight ones though.

  • NJ Pride! I was never in band (NJ All-State Chorus.) But I think the NJMEA program is just overall always so spectacular.

  • I fell in love with this music I'm a trumpet player, our band is little but we did good at UIL. We made straight threes. Hopefully my junior year well be able to go to State. I love marching, concert this year were playing this instead of a oboe we have a saxophone player. Hopefully will do got this year than last year.

  • eek...wouldn't like a saxophone player doing the oboe solo :s

    Good luck though
