As a child this was one of my favorite movies...this and the same prodiction company's Snow White...oh and Beauty in the Beast was cool with all the dancing statues. They made such lovely little films in the 80's. Oh and can anyone believe how young Helen Hunt was in this movie?!

You know whats funny about fairy tales? There are tales where the prince is ugliness and his ugliness is overcome or transformed by his character. There is no such redemption for the female characters. Not only is it inexcusable to be ugly but actually you are only rescued by the prince because you are beautiful! Nevermind I still like these european fairy stories!

I swear I know one, but I can't recall a single story. You can kind of count Beauty and the Beast were the sorceress was disguised, then turned the prince into the beast bc he rejected her looks. And for the female characters, happiness revolves around males- namely princes. But good insight on ugliness in men, never thought of that before. But still, no matter how much you complain, you can't shut out these fairytales!

no actually there is a chunk missing but i dont think it was large enough to constitute an entire part. its just after he sings the too tall frog song and before the bit in her room. its really not a long bit so dont think it matters even if it is missing, it only adds to the whole theme of them becoming friends.

Exactly, the whole movie is about an everlasting friendship. Love is maybe an underlining theme, but definitly NOT the main plot.
