However, not all places have those. So in that case, I see no problem with a cyclist riding on the road, as long as they stay as far over as possible. As for licensing and/or taxing, thats a little extreme I think. But, everybody is entitled to their own opinion! I respect yours, as I hope youll respect mine.

It is a judgment call on the part of the cyclist.

If you can't flow WITH traffic (that means keeping up with everything else on the road, driving the speed limit, getting TO speed, and stopping with the other traffic, etc), then don't have your ass IN traffic. But again, to intentionally stop in front of a cyclist after angrily passing them, is malice aforethought.
If there is no pre-planned intentional action, then the cyclist could be following too closely.
A cyclist has a right to be on the road, so get over it. Each state has a law/code saying what roads a cyclist is not allowed on, because of the speed limit. 50mph is the usual.

@tstutterheim I can see where you're coming from. Ive been to certain areas that have specific "bike lanes" and in those areas, I agree 100% that cyclists should stay in that "lane" only. However, not all places have those. So in that case, I see no problem with a cyclist riding on the road, as long as they stay as far over as possible. As for licensing and/or taxing, thats a little extreme I think. But, everybody is entitled to their own opinion! I respect yours, as I hope youll respect mine.

@Chevyman865 Keep in mind, unless the language in the respective town/city, county and/or state traffic codes specifically says that a cyclist is supposed to ride in the bike lane, they don't have to. Also, The respective traffic codes normally say that a cyclist should ride as far to the right as possible. But the practicality of doing that, is not a judgment call on the part of the motorist. It is a judgment call on the part of the cyclist.

Personally, I don't ride in the bike lane. Because I don't trust motorists not to drift into the lane and/or sideswipe me as I am riding my bike.

Dont' get me wrong, I'm a HUGE diesel guy. But take it easy on the cyclists. As long as theyre riding on the shoulder and not blocking traffic, just let them ride. Yea, theres some that are retarded and ride in the middle of the road. But these guys weren't in your way at all. My dad (who drives a duramax) rides his bike on the weekend and says its really gets old when other diesels blow black smoke all over him. So, from a fellow diesel guy, just let cyclists enjoy their ride.

@Chevyman865 Riding on the shoulder is not always safe. Also, If the road is two lanes or more in both directions, a cyclist should be passed, just like passing another motorist. By changing lanes, not straddling them. Many states have laws for how closely a motorist can pass a cyclist when they are on the shoulder. But a lot of motorists ignore that law and law enforcement doesn't care about the law. The end result for a cyclist that rides on the road is, 'taking the lane'.
