Speed shifting to me is; continuously holding the throttle WFO as you shift. Watch out for the second gear wheelies. Third and fourth gear too, depending on bike.
oouuu i'm gona have to try this on my dirtbike in the spring, i was having trouble with catwalks because i couldn't shift shift up without the front wheel dropping
I've been extreme and shifted on the rev limiter. But I can only do that on long straights and only a couple times. I also sometimes just "speed" shift out of laziness. It's weird being so lazy as to not bother with the clutch.
Usually what I do is pull the clutch just into the friction zone and shift there. It doesn't jerk the bike about. Almost feels like a properly designed automatic. You know, the kind that retards the spark or cuts the throttle a bit before shifting.
@Fudmottin I love shifting like that. I can only really do it with I-4 bikes or larger twins though. It is interesting that you and I both will do it out of pure laziness though lol.
its a good skill to learn... i had to do it once limping home from a deer-strike (well kinda, i couldnt use my foot, so was shifting with my left hand, thus no clutch) ... i wouldnt suggest it all the time for a normal road bike.. but yeah.. good skill.

@anonymzs Yeah it's worth knowing. Make sure to perfect it a little before putting any sort of limb on the line though!

@todkapuz That's what I think. It's a good skill to know and it should be part of knowing how to ride but personally I don't like it.
