In terms of scariness, FEAR is more an action game and the same goes for DOOM3. I've played both and after a while I started enjoying it. I like RE too.

But I have to give it to the Silent hill 1 - 3 (maybe 4th game). It's not the creatures that make you uncomfortable. It's the noises, weird soundtracks and the fact that 3/4 of the games consist of just running around in creepy hallways/streets, and solving tricky puzzles. But I dislike SH like I dislike penumbra. They are uniform and tedious.

@rangdownyou Well this isnt for ps3 but in my opinion its one of the BEST horror games ive ever played. This is for the pc and is called Amnesia: The Dark Descent and the sequel, Amnesia: Justine. In these games you go through a huge mansion called Brennenburg while slowly discovering horrible truths and pieces of the main plot. During all this there are shadows and monsters hunting you. I had a lot of fun playing this though my apologies it isn't for the ps3.
