In 1999 I went to e3 in LA and there was a post e3 event put on by g.o.d. games that had Meat Beat Manifesto and the music of EBN billed. They had 10 or so screens spread out projecting EBN Videos in between acts, i was a fan at the time so i was disappointed that EBN wasn't performing live. But this video blew my mind live like that. And if i remember correctly was the video that led into MBMs performance.
@subere23 yes! it was 1999 when I first saw this video as well -- when the Subliminal Kid tour with Dj Spooky and EBN came through Philadelphia. What really got me was how they projected the video side by side with its mirror projection -- an excellent effect. This was the best video I saw that night as it wasn't simply a remix of sports car crashes and other violent memes.
Look at the 1998 Video Music Awards videos, and pay very close attention to the Best Alternative Music Video sequence, where "Brick" by Ben Folds Five comes in. It is possible that EBN made a shout out to this particular piece. (It's in part 5 of 12!)
@spaceling If not, here it is again. The name of the video is: "1998 MTV Awards 5/12" The sequence occurs at 2:51, with the Ben Folds clip coming in at 3:20. The shout out to "Frank" occurs at 3:26 and lasts for 6 seconds before immediately cutting into "Time of Your Life" by Green Day.
Somewhere I have my original VHS copy of Commercial Entertainment Product, but I haven't seen "Frank" before. It looks and sounds like EBN only became better as they went on.
Does anyone know if EBN is still around making music/videos?
I truly think they make incredible Art and entertainment. Amazing.
