Hi, don't know if I'm too late to comment, but I was wondering how the ICOCA cards (or Suica) work with very young children? Do you need two cards if you are traveling with an infant or toddler?
Well im going to Japan this summer im gonna be 18 and me and my mom are planning to go there is there anything i need to know besides trying to speak the language
arigato your vids helpd me alot i want to get to know as much about japan as i can, cause after graduation im thinking of moving out to japan but i still need to figure out how everything works
You will do just fine, especially in the larger cities. Almost all the signs are in Japanese and romaji. I recommend planning as much of your trip as you can at home before you leave, like scheduling trains, locating hotels, etc. It is much less intimidating that you think! If you need help, let me know! :)
I'm not sure about obtaining full citizenship, but to get your Alien Registration Card, which allows you to do most everything except vote, it takes a little over a month. It all depends on how quickly you complete the paperwork. It's not as simple as coming over here on holiday then heading to the local city office and applying. You must have a valid working visa and a Japanese address.
I was just in Hong Kong recently, and the MTR (underground train thing) system is one of the best in the world. really clean and efficient. and extremely cheap.
i got some footage and might be able to upload it!
when i was in japan whenever I tried to access google it always took me to the Japanese version, if I wanted to access an english google I would have to do a search on japanese google for google Canada, did you figure out how to get around this and go directly to googledotcom
at first, when you type googledotcom, it will default you to the japanese site. if you look at the bottom of the screen, there will be an english phrase that says "view google in english" and from then on you will see it in english (so long as you don't delete your cookies or change IP addresses). let me know if that helps.
How well would I survive knowing Hiragana and Katakana?

Thanks for generating these videos. I'm learning so much. I like the kitchen ones, and the view out the train window. You are a generous soul.

Thanks for those links, I'm supposed to be in Japan next year or year after and those are really helpful websites that will help me a lot.

No problem and as I mentioned, try to plan as much as possible at home, you will thank yourself once you are in Japan.

Ekikara is one of my favorite sites. Ekikara, Jorudan and Yahoo all have iPhone apps as well (Ekikara's is not free though).
