  • this game looks like a smoldering piece of shit, where is the duck and cover tactic you see in the Star Trek shows. I never saw a guy take 15 phaser shots to bring down like wtf. Another lazy MMO Mass heal garbage and lame ass remove buff shit.

Im sorry, they could have done a way better job.

  • its amazing tons of ppl play it. gj cryptic

  • The animations are semi-okay. Its actually pretty good for what they got, but really I believe it should be a more duck-and-cover gameplay style. Like it should be maybe a couple phase strikes and their dead. Unless ofcourse, your fighting the borg with adaption to phaser settings.

In the Star Trek Series, you see alot of ducking cover action so it would make sense to develop that here as well. But its an alright setup. For an alpha test ofcourse.

  • hmmm I might take that all back though...if you have personal shields, which is most likely since technology has developed, then shooting several times would definitely make since. However, the health would have to be extremely low for only a couple shots kill. Maybe a maximum setting for a phaser to vaporize someone in a single shot after shields dissipated.

  • A few bugs there i hope they iron out

  • Those bugs would be??? Only thing I could SEE that needs smoothing are the animations...

by all means point out what you saw.

  • The animations yes, they are poor and clumsy. You should expect better in 2009 really. I also don't like the general feel of the combat, the phaser fire hits the same fixed point on the target, it's not very dynamic combat. It's dated.

  • My understanding is they just plugged in the same animations from Champions (it's the advantage of using the same game engine for every game... it allows rapid prototyping of a game).

Honestly I think it's all par for the course. I play AION right now, and with some mobs I don't even contact them when I hit them. Honestly it's never been a detractor.

In 2009 I expect very little from anyone any more. I remember back when games didn't need updates, and they cost less. Now you pay to play betas.

  • That says it all really, It's always a bad sign when developers cut corners, especially using an 8 year old engine. No wonder they have failed to push boundaries. It just seems to be no more than an arcade space shooter with the Star Trek name attached to it. That is why this is not going to be a great game and it will need to be great to survive against Star Wars TOR which has impressed me.

  • @rich1701

lol yer gonna love the graphics on that one

  • Really reminds me of the space version of pirates of the burning sea

  • Urhhh, ground combat looks shit, you should not have to shoot someone continuously, when out numbering them for a length of time to get them down.

In space, tatics own, on the ground, shoot, duck, cover and kill... i hope its not gonna turn into stand there and shoot our bee bee guns at all the demi gods

  • The Federation is innovative, not imitative. Voyager was fitted with Borg technology to a degree by Seven, and that ship's return to Earth would have brought a vast array of technological data on the Borg and other technologies yet unseen in Federation space. There is no reason why the Federation wouldn't consider deploying personal shields to protect their away teams from weapons fire in a hostile situation if they had the technology to do so.

  • How does that explain the Klingons having the same shield tech? Cheap knockoff, or stolen from the Feds? Any theories?

  • It could be both, actually. Seeing as the Feds and Klinks are at war at this point, its possible they may have stolen the devices and modified them for their own use.

  • Hmmm lets se.... because being 1shotted by the 1st thing u see, maybe because of a 0.5 sec lag spike wouldn't be all that fun???

  • There was an episode, Fist Full of Datas, where Worf (as a holodeck sheriff) built a small temporary personal shield to protect him from a an evil data/holodeck character.

  • Personal shields? Sounds more like the Borg than Federation...

    disappointing.

  • I agree, in theory. But practically, the year is 2409. You have to think, giving the political climate with the Klingon Empire, the Federation has employed new technology.

  • If it works for the Borg, why shouldnt the Federation adopt it? And it's still a MMO, so they had to put in something that reduces incoming damage and is upgradable. Personal shields is a good idea, the alternative would be plate armor ;)

  • Last time you saw anything trek related it was like 20-30 years in the post (according to the story line).

Also, as I recal, I remember the federation (Voyager) using nanobots to create a weapon to kill 8472.

Tons of stuff was derived from reverse engineering borg technology.

  • sorry... "nanites"

  • its called new technology !

  • Also keep in mind that they are working with Paramount and CBS (the license holders of the IP) to keep this stuff a canon as possible while addressing elements needed for adaptation to an MMO.

I too was like "phasers work in one shot dude"... till I realized how lame that would be in an MMO... being one-shot killed all the time. Even modern military based FPS's don't kill with a single shot (which contrary to belief, is reality).

  • personal shields look really cool :D i like how they're not present all the time but once you get hit it's like in the show when a ship gets hit and only a part of the shield becomes visible. very cool. can't wait!!!!! :D

  • Thank you for the Clip
