My two aussies had their tails. They were both humane society dogs though, so my guess is that the original owners probably didn't care much about "breed standard." Sad thing was, one of them looked like her tail had been broken at some point, tipped sideways funny. She didn't wag very much. I agree with kenshinpatto that they look better with tails.
Aww how cute! He still has his (or her) tail! When my dogs had aussie puppies, we docked them by putting those dental bands on their tails. I think thats the proper way to dock them...
UNfortunately, australian shepherds don't have tails (they are docked as puppies) but the reason for that it the american government qualifications for some breeds mean removing the tail. The tails are humanely removed. does not hurt like having a finger cut off or something, it's kinda like cutting the umbilical cord from a baby. aussies sold with tails are unfortunately not recognized in the US as the Australian shepherd breed standard. The tails are docked wen pups r couple days old.

I know. It's forbidden to remove their tails here in Sweden. I think they look nicer with tails.

Whoa he has a tail. I got an astrailian shepard 1 and a half weeks ago. he is also a blue merle he is 15 weeks old
