this is such a great single. makes me laugh. ray davies is a genius. this song was banned from top of the pops originally because it contained the word " bum " lol
1969 was the Kinks' best year for singles - two minor hits and two that weren't hits at all - but four classics - Plastic man, Drivin' (their best song), Shangrila and Victoria (in 1970 Ray had obviously had enough and went for a big hit - and fairplay to him cause he did it) - but it was never the same again
Outstanding upload, thank you so much! I prefer cover songs of theirs, but here we can see how much fun they must have been live. They seldom played where I lived in the States and I was just a young teen then, but I made up for it in NY a few years later! I love "All Night Stand" by The Thoughts. It was fun turning my young French spouse on to The Kinks! And I am from NE Ohio, there is a connection . . . love from France! Uprated and faved.
I love this song! Just don't listen to it before you go shopping as singing "he never swears and he always shakes ya by the hand" in a heavy cockney accent in the middle of Newport city centre gets you some very strange looks!
oh, give me the Ray's hair

Altough Pete Quaife actually played bass on the single that was released , but not the live apperance.

No one has noticed that the guy pretending to play the bass is not Pete Quaife?

@Duxinflite John Nobby dalton who replaced Pete permanently around 69. Pete sadly passed away last year.

They took all the "character" and left little for the modern era. God save the Kinks.

Thanks so much for adding this. One of my fave songs of theirs, close to #1. They are real Kinks, not just You Me Songs.
