  • So are you just simply lowering the saddle until the string are barely touching the dime resting on the 12th fret?

  • So do you just lower the saddle until the string in barely touching the dime?

  • There is no fucking way I'm going to do this right....

  • so your saying that you need a dime to measure the distance from the thret to the string...

    whats a dime?

  • @acornminime It's a currency coin in the U.S.

  • Wow KEWL thx much ... Helpful

  • can you recommend a video to teach me how to file slots on the saddles?

  • I cleaned My bridge when i changed my strings and i was wondering if it mattered what order the saddles went on?

  • tarts!

  • whys he in a cell at the start?

  • Tell me, Your pickups are staggered right? Did it affect any kind of sound?Me myself did turn the bridge into a straight one. Haven't done your steps. I wanna know yours IF it helped or it messed up your sound regarding pickup distance.

  • Hey but can someone help me... I lowered the action on my strat and on a few frets it makes a buzzy noise :(. What should I do?

  • you need to get your frets levelled.

  • @raiders4life37 low action is only best for beginners.. just raise the action, it will benefit you a lot in time to come, helps with bends and vibrato too :)

  • why is it that anything i ever fucking buy has a problem with it. no doubt it will go back to the shop and ill have to pay more money and for whatever reason they won't be able to get in a replacement or fix it or whatever. fuckin hell

  • @skillzdatkillz900 Same thing for me, bro. And when I first went to the music store to fix it they told me that there was nothing wrong with it when there was clearly too much goddamn buzz.

  • Anyone and ideas on how to remove Sellotape gunk off a guitar body using household items ?

  • tremolo...*

  • thanks :)

  • does anyone know a free online dime2eurocent-thickness converter?

  • @olbaard69 It's just a hair over 1 milimeter.

  • @olbaard69 xDxDxD \m/

  • is this not way to close? wont buzz?

  • 55/1000ths of an inch?! Jesus. Just use millimeters for Gods sake! :/

  • @rinnin how many millimeters?

  • Does the dime trick also work for acoustics? I always thought that electrics had a little lower actions....

  • Well you were useful Phel Rountree weren't you!

  • gibson bridges are the best!

  • this tremolo isn't even floating lmfao

  • @qcjefftqc standard fenders usualy dont come with floating tremolos

  • ive got a jackson js32t and ive put 11s on it 11,14,18p,28,38,48 the top e string is buzzing all 24 frets ive adjusted the trust rod and action the action right now is 2mm at the 24th fret and .5mm on th e1st fret any idea?

  • @mmim4 Get a new nut maybe?

  • what if the allen wrench socket on the screw is stripped? (hint mine is.. wtf do i do?)

  • wow a video about adjusting guitar action that actually shows you how to do it, amazing. someone should do a vid on tune o matic bridges..

  • the intro from 0:00 - 0:08 sounded like 'Know Your Enemy'. :D:D:D!

  • @pilotz23 Please tell me you're talking about the rage against the machine song...

  • @FromHalo2halo Whatever. :))

  • @pilotz23 wooo you like green day :PP

  • just use a dunlop jazz III pick its 1.30 mm

  • how do we now pur guitar needs adjustment

  • CLosed caption at 3:48 are nice!

  • Hey I got a concern. The Little Screws at the bottom of my guitar, 2 of them wont stay put, when i put in a guitar string and start tunning the little screw just sinks down. Ive cleaned it area out and it still wont stay in I dont know whats wrong. HELP

  • the thing is.......guitars are not all created equal, regardless of brand or price. You can have two (or ten) of the same type guitar, brand new, and you will be able to get the action much lower (w/out fret buztz) on one than the other. Thats why I never go by any string height measurements. Just get the action as low as you can w/out buzzing and then set up the rest of the guitar

  • So, can I change the height arbitrarily or do all the strings need to be in the same specific height?

  • how do you make guitar sustain notes longer? do you raise bridge or lower it?

  • i live in England and i dont have a dime what coin can i use

  • @JacobSmithUK

I'll send you a a couple of dimes for just $50.00 FREE postage!

  • @BoIivarDan hahahaha

  • Imperial measure fuck me up, how fuckin wide is a fuckin dime?!

    IN METERS !"!!!

  • @Gigawiz I think you meant to say "IN FUCKIN METERS!!!"

  • I just changed strings to a heavier gauge and the bridge has lifted up a lot

  • 0:21 why is he in prison?

  • Fuck it, I'm going to a music store

  • CGI?

    What the hell is this?

  • Just for all Brits, a 2p coin is 2mm thick, which is where u want the lower E string to sit.

Traditional wisdom says the higher E should sit 1.5mm above the fret (1p = 1.5mm) but in reality these things are vary dependent on many different variables

I'd suggest doing the above (E - 2mm, e -1.5mm, graduate the rest), give a good hard strum, pluck the each string past the 17th fret.

If there's any buzz vibration of the strings whacking against the frets, move the bridge saddle back up.

  • @deadmanshoe

That is a rough guild what manufacturers recommend, all my guitars are a lot lower than that, without any buzzing!

  • shooooot! my truss rod is broke !!

  • Does this work with an acoustic? My acoustic has very high action and needs to be lowered

  • Use feeler gauges. Coins can be bent.

  • he's only using it as a contact reference, a guitar string would probably break before bending a coin

  • @tomtomtom1230 well actuaky no it wouldn't . if u were to stick more than one dime it would probably be at risk of breaking and if common sense helps u, u would just use a dime like he said other than anything else so it won't break.

  • I just checked my action with a dime, and it's at under half the thickness.

I just keep lowering the action until it's right at the buzzing threshold...then I scallop the frets. (sue me)

  • @antifaith82 But scalloping the frets just removes material between the frets. It's not going to help lower the action. A good fret leveling would be the recommended fix for that kind of a problem.

  • omg its rico from hot rod.

  • that intro is whatevah, its a hair flip

  • okay so i've got a question, what if your low coiled strings still buzz but ONLY when you play a fret, when they're open they don't buzz, and I know the neck's slightly bowed, but it's barely enough to actually even SEE, I had to take the neck off just to see it (with supervision). Well I raised the saddles and no matter how high they go it still seems to buzz, is it because of the nut, the bow in the neck, or the gauge of string i'm using or a mixture? i'm on 9-42 I believe.

  • it maybe a loose part in your guitar just rattling, my tuners do that on occasion

  • oh yeah, never thought to check those, but I raised the saddle a bit more. Didn't realize until after I looked at the strings that I was using extreme slinky's and they were too low, but I have never checked the tuners, would that cause it to fade out of pitch if they were loose?

  • mine just had a loose screw, i don't know man

  • take an angle grinder to all your frets and that will fix your problem - then it will sound sweet az1

  • Is raising/lowering the bridge something simple that I could do myself or would you recommend taking my guitar to a shop for something like that?

  • @Superfission you can do it yourself. but if your doing it for the first time, take notes and measurement of where it is before you start. that way if youre unhappy with what youve done you can go back to its previous setting

  • I have a TOM bridbe (tune o matic or somthing) on my guitar and my action is too low, cos i would like to be able to hit the strings a bit harder. would it be easy to fix by my self or should i take it to some guru`?

  • when i lowered my strings i lowered them all the way but my strings where still kind of high...what happened?

  • your neck might be bowed too much

  • How do I raise the action on my p bass

  • The dime was way to low for me; because I'm used to acoustic, so I used a nickel.

  • In intonation and the action of the guitar the same thing? (I'm a newby.)

  • no, intonation and action are pretty different.

  • Yah, I thought so, but I wasn't sure. After I watched this video, I saw one on fixing your guitar's intonation; so I set up the intonation on my guitar. (Correctly.) I bought my guitar from a friend who knows nothing about guitars and really screwed up the the bridge. I also fixed the action.

  • lol a dime? how about half a dime. thats for my lead. a dime might work for a rhythm guitar.

  • A dime...by today's standards for shred guitarists, that action is high lol.

  • what if you want to adjust the action to make bending the strings easyer

  • low action on some guitars cause bends to fade out. commonly on 15 through 18th frets on the b and high e. play with your action to get it just right.

  • what? O_O kinda makes sense but very confusing to me ;( haha i screwed up the bridge

  • what's the equivelant of a thickness of a dime in uk coins ?

  • 1.4 millimeters

  • either 20p or 10p coins

  • it duznt matter cuz uk sux. nah im jus fukin wit u man uk iz cool. i actually wanna go there one day

  • no your right uk does suck. i consider my self to be welsh not british...we only use their currency

  • i aint gotta problem with uk exept wen dikz talk shit bout america. i like america there are some things i would like to change but im good here n i hate hearin dikz talk shit bout it.

  • are you on inside an xbox game?hahaha

  • the dime doesn't work

  • damn no wonder my fingers still hurt after playing even with calluses the strings are like 3 nickels from the fret!

  • I play in drop A#, and this didn't really help.

  • shit why dont you just get a bass

  • Why would I? I fixed the problem a few days ago anyways.

  • oh so you mean it wasnt like that intentionally?

    my bad

  • Can someone help me pls?

I had 9 gauge strings on my guitar but I wanted a heavier sound so I changed to 11, but if I tune it to standard, the bridge goes up, and it only goes down to where it should be if i tune it down to d or lower. I dunno what to do.

  • take the plate of the back of the guitar,,where ur springs 4 the trem are,,there are 2 screws that hold the springs,,u need 2 tighten them wich will pull the trem back 2 flat,,this is common issue when u get bigger strings nothings wrong<< Try and let me know<<

  • Comment removed

  • good stuff.

  • alright thats all I needed to know. I mean I'm not afraid of numbers or anything but I fina;;y know what they meant by the 364-464. I had no idea you were actually measuring with a ruler in mm haha thanks man

  • I mean I've been playing for like 5 years. I do solos and chords.

my only problem is the 364th's and 464th's. I don't know what you mean by the numbers. If I can get a better understanding what they mean, it would help a lot

  • my problem is, how close are the strings supposed to be to the fret depending on the style you play?

I play a lot of power chords and bar chords so I have no idea

  • depends what's comfiest for you

  • A dime's thickness!? That's so little! I didn't know the strings supposed to be so close to the frets.

  • the closer the strings are to the fret board, the easier to press down the string :)

great video, didn't know i could use a dime :D

    thnx thnx

  • great vid

  • Been watching set up vids all day and this is by far the most informative. Man that expert village is a waste of space.

  • I know aye, they have like 100 1 minute video for the one topic its a waste.

  • omg finally!!

Dude Plz help me!! How to you retring a guitar like that !! i dont get it?!!!

  • bascially my guitar bridge has popped up on a slant so it sticks up at the back and it is annoying me how do you adjust it so its flat?

  • put more springs in the back.

  • what is the allen size? for bass guitar/?

  • what music is it in the intro?

    please help!!!

  • It sounds like "1 000 000" by Nine Inch Nails

  • my ibanez says to set the treble side at 1.6mm and the bass side at 2.2mm but its way too high for me and when i set it lower i get tons of fret buzz i have floating trem on it plz help?

  • check your neck, maybe the bow is a bit extreme. May need to adjust the truss rod.

  • hey man i have the same problem did you figure out how to fix it yet? im using a dean v with floyd rose

  • yea i fixed it i adjusted the truss rod it helped a little bit but i just had to ste the bass sides action a little on the high side cause i hate fret buzz. so hope tis helps:D

  • Man, using that dime is so much easier than a stupid "64ths" ruler, or whatever the heck it's called. :P THANK YOU

  • i have a stratocaster i customed , i put a gibson sg signiture series neck on it.

problem is ive lowered saddles to the plate and its still not quite low enough.

what else can i do to lower it more at the bottom end of the neck, because the top part near the guitar nut is fine

  • Why an SG neck?

  • just one question what coin can i use in euros ?

i have a canadian dime but is that the right size? please help

  • you can use a ruler...

  • Bboy, that happens on all guitars with a floating bridge (tremolo). Once you tune all six strings, do it again, starting with the low E. You might have to do it 3-4 times until it is in correct pitch. Each time brings it closer. The pressure between all the strings eventually equalizing.

  • ok .i have a squie strat and its ok but at the tenth 10 fret on the high e it always buzzes should raise or lower the action?

  • raise...

  • if it buzzes slightly raise the action

  • could be that the strings are just new bboy. strings will need to stretch out after putting them on, this will come by just playing it and tuning

  • guys have any idea what i need to do? my guitar gets out of tune after i go to tune the other strings!!! when i tune all of them and immediately come back to the first string i see that its way out of tune!!! plz help me if there is a way!!! i have an old japaneas electric guitar.and i have new strings.

  • looks like your tuners can't hold tension very well , try to tighten tuners screws...

  • Japanese guitars are actually quite high quality. Money spent on fabrication can be spent on quality. Japanese strats are very nice.

  • Thank you. I have a beautiful, cream jap-strat and I can't seem to find a huge difference between usa and japanese.

    :) Liam.

  • Maybe u lost ur intonation

  • fender bridges are like cheese graters on the palms..

  • very true...same goes for the yamaha strats though =/

  • please can someone tell in centimeters the distance range from the fret to the string???

  • guitar picks can also be used for string height. As they have the thickness written on them e.g 2.0 mm, 1.35mm(thickness of a dime). Plus they wont scratch up your nice polished frets.

  • Is this a Canadian Dime?

  • i need answers. please. I have a silvertone strat copy. I think it is a silvertone citation. i was wondering if the tremolo arm is supposed to be a floating arm? and if so, how do i adjust the springs? please answer i need help.

  • If you don't know what ur doing take it to a pro.

  • is there a video for tune-o-matic bridge too?

  • shit me, we dont have dimes in australia

    sigh

  • than you for that dime info. great! question, I have a Gibson ES 333 and my saddle bridge has the screws facing the Head of the guitar not the bottom Bridge, is that wrong or does it really matter?

  • billy you need to raise your strings or file the 15th fret and maybe higher

  • the 14th and 15th fret 1st string have the same note,is that a fret problem,need help.thanks

  • that is definitely a problem....the 14th fret should be F# and the 15th should be G.

  • One guy said (JayArpeggios) "you need to raise your strings or file the 15th fret and maybe higher"

Sounds like a good ida 2 me.

  • try to raise the fret actions , that was my problem too and though the actions were kinda high still it phased out the same note problem

  • 4:54 lololol

  • How can I adjust the action without that little wrench? I've searched everywhere and no store has it.

  • its an alley key lol. just go to a hardware shop. or go to ur dads shed

  • theres little hexagon keys that fit in the holes but whatever he got confused dont be a dick jeez

  • so what exactly is action on a guitar?

  • the hight between the strings and the fretboard

  • Wow, using a dime to adjust the height? I never knew this, and here i was running around looking for a ruler that measures in 64ths of an inch.

    Great video.

  • so this is pretty much just making the strings closer to the neck right?

  • Yup, basically.

  • What about the cross head screws along the edge of the bridge? What are those for?

  • For intonation purposes.

  • thank u so much

  • Sexi Guitar

  • hey thanks for the vid the action on my guitar was too high and i didnt know how to lower it thanks!

  • 1.4mm lmao, my GIO ibanez is at 2.3 mm and still has a buzzing noise on the 8th and 16th fret of the A string, the neck relief is set at factory but that god damn buzzing noise still exists, can anyone give me advice to avoid raising the action any higher , for it is too high

  • I would say mess with the truss rod some more, or check that all your frets are in proper place

  • good video, saddam

  • can you post a video to help lower action on a floyd-rose style bridge please!! or someone tell me on comments

  • i tried setting my action with a dime but it was too low (fret buzz).

  • what are you playing? if you have a truss rod nut, you may want to adjust that as well for the lower frets, if that's where you're getting your buzz from.

  • thanks man this was really really helpful!!!

butttt if i do break my guitar to i get to sue??

  • uhm.....thats pretty cynical lol
