  • @GoingBackToCheney you should stay out of this. Not every gui is built on a mac. just because it has overlapping windows does not make hte idea come from mac. btw, CLI command line interface. yea, they can have cursers and UI's. in the command line... ;)

  • FUCK Mac OS X Lion. I want to run Snow Leopard on my future Macs! - just sayin :/

  • i like your videos but i find them way too short, they all seem to end abruptly. Would be cool if you went more in depth for some of them.

  • So...How much is the 1984 model??

  • Does the Mac 1 have Internet

  • why is Mac OS 9 so hard to use though?

  • Awesome video Matt! Just one error in the text at 2:06. It was written twice.

  • Oh the countless times using slow OS 9 in elementary school...

  • rip poor steve ;(

  • OS9 changed the MAC to the good way

  • sir i have seen all of your videos and i really love them . But i have a question what do you think about ubuntu?? do you ever used??

  • "Best Internet OS" Yeah right it came with Internet Explorer, one of the buggiest web browsers ever made xD

  • @Willsterdude3000 lol internet explorer...what a joke!

  • You shouldn't have skipped Mac OS 7 and 8.

  • @BansheeFnd At the time, I didn't have a working machine that had them loaded.

  • I like the song in 2:26. What's the name?

  • I got a macintosh plus for christmas

  • Jst to let you know I wasnt able to read some of the text because of the white glare

  • haha I'm a bit of a techie, so i was already enjoying this video, but when you introduced Mac OS9, the tunes had a nice bit of marching drumline in it, which made my life complete :D

  • @MattsMacintosh Spotlight was introduced in 10.3 not 10.4

  • @2040Tech Nope, it was 10.4

  • @MattsMacintosh Not really lookup Apple spotlight you'll find it was introduced with 10.3

  • @2040Tech oh wait thats was Expose not Spotlight sorry lol

  • @2040Tech It was released in tiger (10.4) not panther

  • @HDv1de0 I know I confused Expose and Spotlight

  • @2040Tech I see

  • @2040Tech Check the Tiger keynote, Steve says theve had searching in the past but not fully intergraded like spotlight.

  • You completely skipped OS 7 and 8? Why?

  • did the first macintosh connect to the internet?

    0:14

  • thumbs up if your watching this in 2012!

  • is it worth the £20 to get the new OSX Lion ?

  • @MrAngusshand yes, very much is it worth it

  • @MrAngusshand Absoulutly

  • @MrAngusshand consumer=yes pro=no

  • @Senadovych I know you meant this as a joke, but having recently used an Alto and a Star I can tell you that the Lisa, and in turn Mac OS is light years ahead of it. It's a disservice to the amazing early Apple engineers to say that what they made was in any way a "copy"

  • Step 1: Copy everything from Xerox.

  • Do you have a download link for the Macintosh HD icon at 2:08?

  • Your Classic doesn't seem to be right.

  • system 6 screen is not right lol

  • It's funny that IE used to work on macs!

  • @mrbeady9 That's because IE was actually good back then.

  • @L3phili3Tjosh Yep, and now its crap.

  • Whats the name of the song @ 1:11 ?

  • do you know why Mac OS? Becouse Mac(int)OS(h)

  • @TGF2user Nem azért Mac OS :D Hanem szimplán azért mert macintosh operating system rövidítve :D

  • @TGF2user Uh, sure...but most likely because Mac(intosh) O(perating)S(ystem)

  • I am making a Mac OS and Mac Evolution video. I need: Screenshots of EVERY Apple computer made. Screenies of every Apple OS. Time to make: About 5 weeks - 1 month

  • HA thats my computer at 1:39 (has tiger)

  • why did you skip some? mainy os 7 and os 8?

  • @xplus93 Matt Doesn't have OS 7 and OS 8

  • For OS X, what is the name of the track you used?

  • I love to see "Macintosh Color Classic" My Jr high school Class room mac !

  • Love your vids!

Two things though: What's that crack on you Compact Mac :) and wouldn't you want your menu strip on your iMac to be at the button or the top of the screen? It's either holding the alt or the command key and pull it in place (:

  • @MattsMacintosh What do you think of lion?

  • I hope you realize that Mac OS X is BSD UNIX with the Aqua GUI.

I discovered this when I bought a Mac Mini and I was using the terminal to install the Android SDK. Waste of 600 bucks. I could've downloaded FreeBSD and installed GNOME and Docky.

  • @teh5abiking I think that's actually pretty common knowledge. The origin of using the "X" instead of "10" is from NeXtStep, which of course emphasized the "X" because of its Unix roots.

  • @MattsMacintosh Well, it might be common to you, however the average user barely has any idea about its inner workings.

  • @MattsMacintosh Where is AppleSoft !!!!?????

  • Comment removed

  • @MattsMacintosh Matt i also remeber you doing a video "some time ago", about Open source = Steve Wozniak and None Source = Steve Jobs ?

Are we missing something in this time line ?

  • @MattsMacintosh Wait on the early versions of OS X (10.0-10.1) you could boot into OS 9?

  • @MattsMacintosh XNU, which is part of Darwin, stands for "X is Not Unix". I believe that using the roman numeral X instead of 10 was basically for marketing. Makes the product seem more serious. If you think about it, Final Cut skipped from 7 to X.

@teh5abiking if you bought a mac just to do develop for android...then yeah you wasted $600.

  • @GrandEpsilon So did the Canon 1Dx

  • @teh5abiking So you "blew" 600 bucks when you could have just read a wikipedia article? It's not apples fault you didn't inform yourself as a consumer. h8ter.

  • @teh5abiking People on this video - /watch?v=eaYNnNHkVew

seem to have trouble believing their precious apple OS is actually just Unix lol

  • @teh5abiking You bought a mac to develop for android, so you spend $600 for a device that does the same job as a $200 device and develops for that os better..

  • @teh5abiking Totally fail.. What Mac apps can you run on FreeBSD? Gosh, people are so dumb...

  • @teh5abiking If the only reason for buying it was to install the Android SDK, then yes it is. But seriously, were you able to install any proper Mac applications (e.g. MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, iTunes) using FreeBSD, Gnome and Docky?

  • Safari was originaly introduced in 10.2.8 or something

  • LOL OS9 claimed it as the best internet OS ever and then it loads a page wrong! ROFL

  • @campaingboy73

That's because he used MS-IE. One of former elementary schools used Netscape on our old macs

  • Just asking did it go straight from system 1 to system 6 or were there there some OSs in between?

  • @8productions8 Probably 2 to 5 were minor upgrades before they started using the "digit point digit" layout

  • @superhypermackid ...would be $5200!

  • @iAppleStop that was just the OS. The original macintosh costed $2495 at the time which, in today's currency

  • LoL New FACT: OS9 came out when i was born!

  • lol Microsoft internet explorer Macintosh edition

  • the cost of a mac had a giant jump from $49 to $1199

  • definately getting that G4 iMac... looks decent.. :)

  • The end was random!

  • @ArMc98 I think it was a hidden message like knowing that the next iteration of the Mac OS would have some type of influence coming from iOS.. :P

  • whats up with the boot times? I dont care about it. I start my mbp13 once a day. do you people shut your computer down all the time you stand up from it?

  • the last few seconds is lion OS, going to be released soon.

  • oh how i wish i could play number munchers again on the mac

  • How's the mac os x song called

  • PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I made a video of 3.5 mintutes,i did it in like 2 hours.

I get back to the project library,i drag and droped the project on my desktop,i double-clicked on the project on the desktop, and it doesn't open up,and the project from the library desapeared.

    What can i do.

  • @BurninC4rtrage Actually, I don´t think Apple will stop making computers, as it is the main provider of computers to things like filmaking industry.

  • os9 was the shit! i still use it under classic mode on my ibook g3's tiger

  • @RobertC19850209 Tell me about it i upgraded my iMac G3 from Os 9 to 10.6 (snow leopard)

  • @moho472 how did you install snow leopard to a power PC? let alone a G3? i have a G3 and i can only go up to 10.4 tiger. not that i want leopard on a powerpc. i will go about installing snow leopard on my pc eventually

  • @RobertC19850209 i know it can but i wanted to do an expriment so i switch all the components on the G3 and put an 21.5 iMac hardware inside the G3 its really cool.

  • @MSOSReviews era mas rapido, pero toma en cuenta que tambien era mas simple asi que no debia cargar grandes cantidades de informacion

  • wasent the dock around for longer then os x?

  • do the original macs start faster or slower than the new ones?

  • @ultimatenerd22 Much faster, but they have a lot less to load during the boot up.

  • @MattsMacintosh Also, a lot of the OS is in the ROM.

  • @MattsMacintosh didnt they improved finder in 10.5? and 10.6?

  • @moho472 yes they did the rewrote the finder in cocao or thatever

  • @MattsMacintosh Of course, they had not hard disk and a lot less coding to run on. Eloquent coding like that in the original Macintosh or the Commodore series isn't found anymore in any program or OS, iOS 4.3 is over 500 megs.... DSL or Damn Small Linux is a full powered desktop OS that if memory serves (haven't used it since I trashed my Packard Bell from 1994 two years ago) it ran off 100 megs. DVD read/write support, TCP/IP, Wi-fi ability even...

  • @ultimatenerd22 With the original ones you NEEDED to boot. I just close mine and it puts itself into standby. I open it and its there. Who is still booting regularly?

  • hey ypu know the music in your vids 2 questions. is it stock music?and where can i find some stock music free for download/

  • Comment removed

  • I can't find the Song thats playing during the System 6. What's the Name...? I love this one :)

  • Love your videos! I have literally, no joke, watched each one like 3 times each, some much more than that! You do a great Job! Thank You!

  • People, just so you know, Mac OS X is pronounced "Mac OS Ten", not "Mac OS Ex". js.

  • That's amazing that Mac OS 9 could pull up Apple's site with IE 5! Not to mention, that was back when Apple's site was still, hungry. Now they cleaned up the site and made it even faster and smoother than when this was out.

Kinda glad they did away with the scrolling for features for the categories at the top of the page.

    Can't wait for Lion.

  • what was the music on the osx systems? please tell me

  • can you run mac in a PC?

  • @ultrasuperman99 No, I love the gamer PC specs but If you install OS X on a pc you break the EULA.

  • 2:15 | AHHH IOS!!!!!

  • do you have an apple LISA? apart from the apple 1 thats the apple computer I'm most interested in

  • @killdoser666 No Apple 1's have ever seen consumer use. There are about 250 of them still in existence but most of them are either in museums, or with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. It was once reported that Wozniak uncovered 18 apple 1's in his basement and another time a man found a circuit board Much pertaining to the looks of an apple 1 in his attic.

  • @QrazyDude I know about the Apple 1 not being a mass released but the replica 1 is the closest to a consumer version with is one that I'll mor than likely buy

  • @iapplestop it was the os not the computer

  • wow. microsoft has copied apple so much.

  • OS 1, Pretty nifty for the time isn't it? :)

  • great vid! and the ending was nice, really made me feel like iOS is apples OS future, many predictions say iOS and Mac OS will merge some day.

  • @h4x0y apple has already announced it! it's called OS X Lion

  • @MSOSReviews I didn't have any working 7 or 8 machines when I made this video. I think one day I'll make a sequel and cover the ones I missed.

  • what is the songs called

  • The OS 9 to OS X 10 is such a big jump from the User Interface... :O

  • wow wished mac still cost $49

  • @iAppleStop He meant the software, Not the mac. OSX 10.6 snow leopard is also $49.99

  • @QrazyDude No it's $29

  • @iAppleStop today it is $29

  • @iAppleStop That was the operating system, not the computers itself. Snow Leopard, and the upcoming OS release, Lion are both $29.

  • @iAppleStop

    Snow Leopard is only $29...

  • @iAppleStop it's not the mac that costed 49dollars it's the OS!!

  • @iAppleStop snow leopard was $20 and the Beta for Mac OS X was less than $20

  • @iAppleStop It costs $29 for the system now. Just letting you know.

  • @iAppleStop It never did, just the OS did!

  • @iAppleStop I'm pretty sure that was the cost of the operating system, not the computer itself.

  • @iAppleStop $49 was the OS and now the OS is $30

  • @iAppleStop That's how much the system cost. Mac OS X Lion costs $29.99 now. $20 less. :D

  • @Rileybdarby503 no its not you moron, the original macintosh was priced at almost 10 thousand dollars. yes,

  • @ilovethegirlsfull I'm not sure if you miscommented, but no, Mac OS X Lion does cost $29.99. Dummy.

  • @Rileybdarby503 no shit lion is 29.99,

but the original MACINTOSH COMPUTER cost almost 10 grand.

    not 49 dollars.

  • @ilovethegirlsfull The OP was confusing the OS with the Computer. You should try actually seeing what I replied to. SRSLY

  • @iAppleStop the computer didnt cost $50 the OS did

  • @iAppleStop Its the OS, Lion is like $30

  • @iAppleStop Why? It's $29 now

  • for all those pc people. I have a question for you...Why is it Macs from the 1980's still work todday but you dont see any pc's from that long ago huh? Haha GO MAC!

  • You missed my fav. mac OS. System 7. That was my fav. classic Mac OS. More stable than 8 or 9 which IMHO were pushing the limits of what the old architecture was capable of. Plus, I like the look of 7 :)

  • Whoa, Apple implemented their own version of MSPaint on the early models? God, I wish they had kept it.

  • @Hauntzor It would be more accurate to say that Microsoft implemented their own version of MacPaint on Windows, since the MacOS was first; but yeah, I agree that a basic paint-like program would be cool on OSX

  • @MattsMacintosh Actually there is a paint program for OS X, it's called PaintBrush.

  • @MattsMacintosh Just get paintbrush then ;)

  • @MattsMacintosh I dont get it. I am an Apple/Mac hater and LOVE Windows 7 & WinPhone 7. But I could never understand the cult of MS Paint! I am a cartoonist who uses Photoshop, Manga Studio 4, etc. When you can have any program for graphics on a Mac or PC, some people LOVE MSPaint. Can you explain that?

  • @Hauntzor I have an application called "Paintbrush". Download it from the Apple site. It even talks about how they removed MacPaint.

  • how do you get your dock to be completely black, and also have the weather and other things in 10.6?

  • i miss the sherlock app & the old os 9 look :(

  • I think NextStep deserved a special mention.

  • @mattsmacintosh mat i have got a problem with my g4 powermac it can run os 9 and tiger it is stuck on mac os 9 and i don't see a menu-bar and shows a floppy disk with a ? do you think please help

  • @mattsmacintosh mat i have got a problem with my g4 powermac it can run os 9 and tiger it is stuck on mac os 9 and i don't see a menu-bar and shows a floppy disk with a ? do you think

  • @weridpan the operating system is not found so you need to reinstall os 9 or tiger

  • hey matt. r u gonna put os x on ur g3?

  • was there an Mac os8? 7?

  • lol IE in Mac

  • What song is that when you got to OS X?

  • Wasn't the dock also in OS 9? I thought it was that gray slide-out bar at the bottom with all of your applications...

  • Power PC For Ever

  • Damn System 6 is cheap

  • i remember in like kindergarden and 1st grade, we had the really old macs with mac os like 9.1 or whatever.. idk but they were really olldddd :P

  • Mac OS 9 may be my favorite. Brings back awesome memories from elementary school.

  • Mac OS 8 was the greatest Mac OS IMO. It introduced a whole new look to the finder and was really the first internet OS for Mac. OS 9 really was just a continuation of 8.

  • Can you do a walkthrough of all the OS' for fun? That would be neat!

  • You missed System 7!!!

  • i still laugh at internet explorer on the mac :L

  • @dazacman40 I still laugh at Internet Explorer in general lol.

  • My school still has OS X on the oldest laptops.

  • nice!! amazing shutter effects!!
