If you hear a music piece for the first time in your life, you are bound to be less critical than if you've heard the same piece performed many times by the best singers that ever live. This is classical music, and it has very high standards for perfection - pitch, tone, phrasing, diction, expression. Forget Pavarotti or even today stars. Listen to a couple of young opera singers you don't know e.g. Michael Fabiano, David Lomeli. See how Neal compares to them.

The difference between Paul Potts and this guy basically the story. Paul Potts was of course the first to do this on a show like this, and his humble nature and lack of initial confidence is what made it such an amazing story. Basically, when he got on stage, no one expected him to be able to do what he did.

With Neil, he has a better voice but lacks the humble nature that attracted the nation of Great Britain. Also, I agree with the comment on originality stated before.

he is good, nerves obviously got the better of him in places.

His pronunciation is poor as was his timing in places, but to sing this in full voice and hit the highs is impressive.

I do alot of musical theatre work and the last "vincerò" is creeping into head voice.

Thankfully i am trained but he does have an amazing natural talent.

For that i thank him and wish him the best luck with more training he may make something of himself, maybenot in the opera circuit but something along those lines :)

I've known Mr Boyd personally. He's from my hometown. He's a sweet guy who just wants to live his dream and get young people interested in opera too. If you want to hear a REAL opera singer do the *complete* version of Nessun dorma (with full orchestra, I might add, instead of a piped over recording) instead of 1:45 of "scream"-singing, PLEASE VIEW PAVAROTTI - the real thing.
