  • splendido!

  • I don't think anyone sings this better than Muddy Waters.

  • I just finished reading two bios, one about Little Walter and the other about Muddy Waters. Muddy asked that his red tele be buried with him. It wouldn't quite fit, so they broke the neck and put the two pieces inside the casket.

  • AWSOME PERFORMANCE!!

  • What's the name of the pianist?

  • yeehhhhhhhhh como esta esto!!! si!!

  • JERRY PORTNOY... A PURE PRO!

  • i think butterfield did better on the record than portnoy did live.

  • Check it out, everybody! A young Jerry Portnoy on harp, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith on drums, Pinetop on keys, all told, vintage blues by the meisters of Chicago!

  • @Flat7up yes he is - and Pinetop at the piano

  • I wish gen-xers displayed real music talent today. All this hip hop rap BS sucks big tyme.

  • Harmonica player looks like Sylvester Stalone but less retarded.

  • I BELIEVE THE HARP PLAYER IS PAUL BUTTERFIELD

  • This is a good song to french harp too. Jerry portnoy kicks butt

  • This band,,what can I say,,with muddy,,they just burned,,what a perfect combo,so tight,

  • Great great song by a great great band.

RIP PINETOP PERKINS. Today you'll play again Caldonia & Kansas City with Muddy!!!!

    Thanks for sharing this.

  • who is this harp player, man, this is good music, children should be exposed to this instead of the stuff thats rammed down their mind today,, thanks for sharing this video.

  • @grenda5 He is Jerry Portnoy, and... yes indeed

  • My God this is soo good :)

  • Steady rollin', Mr. Bob Margolin

  • Of course Muddy is iconic, but this band is fucking on!

  • Top of the range tune!

  • all the best! amazing!

  • Jerry Portnoy on the bluesharp one of the most understimated harpplayers! This man is one of the best!

  • Imagine, if there were no Muddy Waters, And Hank Williams.

There'd be No Rock N Roll

  • Jerry Portnoy is just fantastic!

  • @TURBOKNUL666 He only plays with the best. He did alot of work with Eric Clapton too, like his "from de Cradle" album, you should check it out if you haven't yet of course ;)

  • Funny how they made out of a Jump Rhythm and Blues piece finest Chicago Rhythm and Blues. Sounds just fantastic !!!

  • No one does this song like Louis Jordan who first recorded it. I have yet to hear anyone hit that high note Louis does!!

  • waaaA!!!

  • i didnt liked music when i was 13 years old, one night i was listening to radio switching stations.....and there it was, Mr. Muddy Waters "can't get no griddin , whats the matter with the mill" YEAH :)

  • yeah!!

  • What a graet find...Pinetop is still playing that piano. Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin sounds great too!

  • What Key is he playing in on the harmonica?

  • @tage92 Sounds like song in G, "C" harp, but dont have harp close to me. Maybe I should check huh?

  • @cedricleecason Yes, song is in G... Jerry plays a C harp in 2nd position, then switches to a G harp in 1st position at around 2:48... so good !

  • @airmojo Sure about that G harp? I play it straight thru on my C.

  • @goodymagoo Playing blues in 1st position, especially the way Jerry is playing in both the upper and lower octaves, is harder than playing in 2nd position, generally speaking... at least for me...

  • @airmojo Sure about the G harp comment? I think he sticks with his C harp.

  • @goodymagoo He definitely switched to a G Harp to play in 1st position... at 2:18, you can see Jerry put his C harp down on his amp, and pick up the other harp.... you could still use a C harp since the song is in G... try your G harp at 2:48 and see... have fun !

  • @airmojo I stand corrected. Thanks. Worked hard to get those high ones to pop just right on my C harp, but it works better with the switch.

  • Mos Def, does a real nice version of this song in the movie Lackawanna Blues.

  • Louis Jordan is better in this song.....!!!

  • @melpomenhmad doesn't matter.... music (especially blues) ain't no competition ;)

  • now ya know..... real music. thanks for postin it. Thanks Muddy & band

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    :)

  • such a classic - best alltime version of 'Donia (w/ due respect to cotton and jordan of course)

  • CE L'HO LUNGO COME RICKY SCANDIANI

  • Who is the guy with the strat?

  • He is Mr Bob Margolin, a great guitar player! ;-)

  • Hey thanks I appreciate it!

  • @MuddyBoy61 Don't forget Luther "Guitar Jr" Johnson, who plays a strat too!

  • @MuddyBoy61 steady rollin!

  • @1957fenderstrat - It's Luther Guitar Junior Johnson

  • Check out my version, of course I'm no Muddy or Louis Jordan, but I love the song.

I agree this is a good band, but I like the original line-up w/ Jimmy Rogers, Otis Spann and Little Walter.

  • To my opinion this whas Muddy's best band, along with a young Bob Margolin and Jerry Portnoy.

  • dat boeh ohn hamonica blowin his ass off!

  • any1 knows how to play it? I'm a newbie guitar player. Is it G, C, D?

  • Pretty much:)

  • its pretty much standard blues. except the turnaround is a 2-5-1. so if it is in G the turnaround bit would be A-D-C.

  • Altho Portnoy plays uses a C harp in 2nd position during the song, he plays his solo entirely in 1st postion on a G harp.

    ron

  • Very best version of Caldonia ever! Portnoy kills on this - love the high-end blow bends down to the 2-draw full step riff on his solo!

Does anyone know if he changed to a G harp for the blow-bends (1st position) or stuck with the C harp (song is in G)??? I try and cover this but those blow bends on a C harp can get mighty squeeky!!

  • Thank you for the clarification - that's kinda what i always thought but sure don't sound like my G harp!!! Some player he is!

  • CALDONIA?!?

  • yes i am doe, and i am from caledonia with a big head so hard. lol.

  • who is the key board player and is he the same guy who helps muddy sing this on the album?

  • Yes, he is the great Pinetop Perkins

  • Portnoy is one of the greats of all time.

  • Yeaaaa! Great !!!!

  • Original blues!!! Muddy Waters is the best!!! This video i watch it first time.

  • Gooooood blues stuff. Oh yea!!!!
