My buddy has a MicroKorg and I love the sounds it makes, but comparing it to the Pro-One is apples to oranges. I understand that some people may not like the Pro-One, still doesn't change the facts. Sequential Circuits Pro-One is a "TOP 3 " synth to date. It creates unique a FAT frequencies and gives that warm analogue feel to anything I use it with. The Pro-One is timeless thus far.
WOW, this sounds WAY better than the current dave smith synths - I was thinking of getting a mopho - but not after listening to this! - i miss my old pro-one - I AM going to get another one - thats it , its decided!
I am looking to purchase a mono synth for bass and leads to complement my MKS-70, MKS-80 and Juno 106. Have narrowed it down to either the Pro One, Roland SH-2 or the Moog Source.
Which would you go for? Any other contenders I should consider also?
@ProBassLessons I've got a juno 106, and recently picked up a pro one.. it was my largest gear purchase to date. I dont regret it for a second. The pro uno complements the 106 nicely.
fantastic synth for quik punchy bass, sequences, analog drum & fx. it cuts and rips. yet not a 1st choice for smooth/warm stuff. u need moog/arp for that.
anyway, Mopho is nothing like P1. smaller filter, clean, uniform DCO osillators. it may have its own charms, and i think esp TETRA is a great 1st buy for completely ITB ppl..
but FAT is not how i'd describe it. tho i can see how someone with VA/VSTi backgrnd might feel so. do try a pro one.. source.. or sh2..

I sold my pro one in the early 90's for $50 AHHH!, i remember the one i had going out of tune on stage, maybe a dud but had a horrible time with it, also had a juno 60, sh101, Akai x7000 and FB 100 module, and the other keyboard player in the band had a jupiter 8, ARP wasp? and Akai X100? synth history!
A really flexible and big sounding synth with a horrible cheap case, knobs and keyboard. Damn this keyboard is so loud you don't even hear the music ;).
I need expert advice please! I'm looking for a cheap-ish keyboard (something like the MicroKorg price range) that would give me this kind of fat bass, moog-ish sound... Can anyone suggest anything? Ideally something I could use with Ableton Live, and as a regular keyboard for gigs. Help!
MicroKorg will get you 90% of the way. Throw in some decent compression and an analog filter, reverb and distortion and no one will know the difference.
forget about the microkorg, buy a dave smith's mopho or a good 2º hand monophonic synth, you should get any of those for less money than the microkorg. unless you have no ears you will hear the difference. If you haven't got a midi keyboard buy a cheap one, you would get that FAT bass for less than 450 euros.
@airmiami operator will do this fine play around with it its pretty powerful...i know you dont normally expect packaged synths to be like that but it is. still if you want this flavor sound you will have to go prophet.
@ikazlar Most of the sounds on the Yazoo album "Upstairs at Eric's" was actually made on his Pro-One! Great record I might add! :-) In a documentary he said that the Pro-One was probably his favorite monophonic synth.
The DSI Mopho is a great synth as well, and it has the same Curtis filter as the old Sequential stuff and can actually get pretty close to the Pro-One!
@shawnguess I guess it's a matter of a opinion. I read this comment on the VSE site: "have you ever used a pro one ? i have both here the pro one & the mopho. the mopho sounds 99 % like a pro one if you know how to use it. and in the final mix you will never hear the difference."
Anyway... I love my DSI Mopho Keyboard - it really does sound amazing!

I had one of these back in the early 80's but I never really to use it very well. Wound up trading it for a bass guitar.

Nice but I only really like the bass end on this and perhaps a Moog Phatty or Voyager is a better purchase?

I'm getting the MoPho, I heard it is equal to the Pro 1. Except is is not as sexy. Osc modulation features are my bread and butter.

Micro korg will just about do it for you. I have Minimoog, Pro one, Sh101 and the korg does a very good job too.... also polyphonic which is good

Yazoo's Don't Go is made with Pro One - I think 4 of them but I am not sure.
I have the exact settings for the lead, bass and the arpeggio. Vince Clarke published the sounds in a magazine at that time.
Amazing synth, very tight bass and full of energy.
I want to pick one - if I find it in great condition...

to mooghammondb3. pro one has the exact same architecture of the coveted prophet, only one voice (mono). so yah, it does sound very Prophet-y indeed.
