  • SHINE THAT SHAFT!!

  • More songs need to be about Montana.

  • I find this really funny, because my Uncle Steve had a bike he loved more than anything, and while he was out of the country last October, it got jacked when one of the neighbor kids rode it to school and didn't lock it up. And he lives in Missoula Montana, lolol, god.

  • haha my name is steven herher arent i cool !

  • "The world is full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the further you get away from Missoula, MT" -A River Runs Through It

  • I live a half a block from Orange Street Food Farm. wtf? that is random

  • yes it is supposed to be set in Missoula, MT. at least, the references such as Orange Street Food Farm and Frenchtown Pond are.

  • you could buy beer cheap at orange street food farm. i lived at the warehouse on 4th street. i bet ben reed fucking stole the bike, he stole one from me once and i was his friend. not after that, though. he became a lawyer and went to kyrgyzstan to do water rights stuff but he sucked at it and the ngo fired him. last i heard he was a public defender in billings. what a loser.

  • @cgbaldwin This made me laugh uncontrollably for a solid 30 seconds...fucking Ben Reed. Lulz

  • I love this song...Great tune guys!!!

  • yep sting4816....it is

  • Well, apparently Missoula is a big bicycling city Missoula is considered by many to be the mecca of bicycle travel, because of the presence of Adventure Cycling Association [3] (formerly known as Bikecentennial), North America's largest cycling membership organization. Thousands of bike travelers come through Missoula and stop at Adventure Cycling's downtown headquarters (in a former church at 150 E. Pine Street) for free ice cream, advice, and the chance to be photographed.(Wikipedia)

  • What the fuck?...Orange street food farm? Frenchtown Pond? is this song supposed to be set in Missoula, MT...I just came across it randomly and i was like holy shit it could be talking about Missoula. I've lived in Missoula for like 17 years

  • No idea...Ask the Decemberists.

  • @Tinmin18 It is

  • @Tinmin18 Yeah it's in Missoula lol

  • Actually yes it is. I googled that a while back

  • @NathanIsReallyBored Ya dude thats sweet, i was thinking to myself if there was any other town that had both of those places

  • @sting4816 Yeah, Colin Meloy went to school at UM... used to live over by Rockin Rudy's in the slant streets, and I'm about 85% sure this is based on a true story.

  • @sting4816 I played the song for my Missoula-native Dad, and he got really excited.

  • @sting4816 yeah it is

  • @sting4816 of course it is, colin melloy wrote it when he was still in college...at the U of M

  • @sting4816 Yeah, probably. That's where the singer/song writer is from.

  • @sting4816 It is about Missoula. Colin Meloy the lead singer of The Decemberists attended University of Montana studying creative writing before he become a star.

  • @sting4816 yeah, it is. :3

  • @sting4816 Well Colin Melyo WAS born in Helena, Montana.

  • @sting4816 Also from his wiki: 'before returning to Montana and enrolling in the creative writing program at the University of Montana in Missoula. '

So it might be, he's been there.

  • @sting4816 it is about Missoula! they started as Tarkio at UM. Colin Melloy is from Helena

  • @sting4816 Yup, its based in Missoula. Colin Meloy is a UM graduate.

  • what city is this filmed in?

  • Santa Cruz California

  • Colin told this story at their performance at the Flynn in Burlington this past Sunday.

He said he called his friend whose bike it was, he didn't leave it as a message, he just started singing it when his friend answered. after hearing the words his friend hung up on him (upset about his bicycle) but later agreed it was a good tune

  • This is 1 of my all-time favourite song!!! Oh soooooooooooooo many memories!! i really cant describe how much i love this song! i dont really like the vid. that much but it is pretty gd i just LOVE this song i'm not even speaking straight!! xxx

  • Go zootown. Its been my home town for all my 15 years. w00t

  • Stevine

  • We've had at least three of our bikes stolen on separate occasions... bastard thieves...

I love this song- isn't it an actual apology to someone?

  • The story I heard is that, upon losing Madeline, Colin Meloy wrote this song and sang it into Steven´s answering machine. He ended up liking the song so much, the band recorded it and put it onto later versions of 5 Songs.

  • this is the best thing ever.

except every time i listen to this song i can't help picturing a little colin malloy losing his friend's bike.

  • L O V E IT!

  • Haha! We definitely don't have Palm tree's in Missoula.

  • someone stole my bike? no fair ]=

  • this is a true story in case you didn't know
