I find this really funny, because my Uncle Steve had a bike he loved more than anything, and while he was out of the country last October, it got jacked when one of the neighbor kids rode it to school and didn't lock it up. And he lives in Missoula Montana, lolol, god.
you could buy beer cheap at orange street food farm. i lived at the warehouse on 4th street. i bet ben reed fucking stole the bike, he stole one from me once and i was his friend. not after that, though. he became a lawyer and went to kyrgyzstan to do water rights stuff but he sucked at it and the ngo fired him. last i heard he was a public defender in billings. what a loser.
Well, apparently Missoula is a big bicycling city Missoula is considered by many to be the mecca of bicycle travel, because of the presence of Adventure Cycling Association [3] (formerly known as Bikecentennial), North America's largest cycling membership organization. Thousands of bike travelers come through Missoula and stop at Adventure Cycling's downtown headquarters (in a former church at 150 E. Pine Street) for free ice cream, advice, and the chance to be photographed.(Wikipedia)
What the fuck?...Orange street food farm? Frenchtown Pond? is this song supposed to be set in Missoula, MT...I just came across it randomly and i was like holy shit it could be talking about Missoula. I've lived in Missoula for like 17 years
@sting4816 Yeah, Colin Meloy went to school at UM... used to live over by Rockin Rudy's in the slant streets, and I'm about 85% sure this is based on a true story.
@sting4816 It is about Missoula. Colin Meloy the lead singer of The Decemberists attended University of Montana studying creative writing before he become a star.
Colin told this story at their performance at the Flynn in Burlington this past Sunday.
He said he called his friend whose bike it was, he didn't leave it as a message, he just started singing it when his friend answered. after hearing the words his friend hung up on him (upset about his bicycle) but later agreed it was a good tune
This is 1 of my all-time favourite song!!! Oh soooooooooooooo many memories!! i really cant describe how much i love this song! i dont really like the vid. that much but it is pretty gd i just LOVE this song i'm not even speaking straight!! xxx
The story I heard is that, upon losing Madeline, Colin Meloy wrote this song and sang it into Steven´s answering machine. He ended up liking the song so much, the band recorded it and put it onto later versions of 5 Songs.
Although I have to say the guy in the video looks nothing like what I imagined the boy in the song to look like. I thought he woul;d be a cute little 8 year old lol.
SHINE THAT SHAFT!!
